Gov. Rick Scott announced the state would be suing President Obama’s federal health-care agency for stopping Low Income Pool (LIP) health-care funds in order to force the Legislature to expand Medicaid in the Sunshine State.

Our budget includes $2 billion in federal funds for the Low Income Pool, or “LIP.” Half of the LIP is federal matching funds. Obama is strong arming Florida to accept his Affordable care Act (ObamaCare) in order to receive the LIP.

Gov. Scott is preventing 800,000 low-income Floridians from receiving affordable healthcare by not refusing to expand Medicaid, something he promised to do (citing his mother's passing) in order to get re-elected.
I applaud any efforts used by anyone to hold Scott to his promise and bring affordable healthcare to the poor. It helps all Floridians, not just the poor and it is the humanistic and Christian thing to do.
He has changed his mind on this issue. I believe he said that he would support an expansion of the Medicaid program under ObamaCare only if the Feds met its commitment to pay 100 percent of the cost during this time. It is the legislature that voted Medicaid expansion down in 2013 with no compromise. Rather than it being un-Christian or having a lack of humanity, Florida, controlled by Republicans, is against socialism and believes it can create a better program than ObamaCAre. Obama should fund LIP as he promised and stop hurting the very poor in our State in order to get his way.

It's appalling that Obama has been elected twice when he's piled on so much debt in such a short period that the destruction of our economy is inevitable unless a Republican is elected.
Actually, Lynn, LIP doesn't compensate the poor. LIP compensates the hospitals who aren't able to recoup the money spent caring for those too poor to pay for their healthcare.
If Rick Scott truly were concerned about the poor, which, of course, he isn't, he would expand Medicaid like he said he would do. That expansion would directly impact those low-income Floridians who can't afford healthcare.
If Republicans are that against socialism, perhaps they need to take a look at our public libraries, police and fire departments, and, yes, even Lake Worth Public Beach. All are fine examples of what today's right-wing likes to call "socialism."
Well, it actually does help the poor because they are the ones going to these hospitals and expect everything for free and consequently, hospitals are losing their shirts. Money you take from the government always has strings. Obama has the Affordable Care Act. Wasn't this put in place so that everyone could have affordable medical insurance? Our public facilities are paid for by tax dollars. What does socialism have to do with it? You're probably going to mention social security next.
LIP is federal money that FL has taken in order to help the large corps who own hospitals. Republicans have no problem helping out the larger corps. and giving money to them. But when it comes to helping out the poor by taking money to expand Medicaid to DIRECTLY assist poor and low-income Floridians they're against that and call it "socialism."
Newsflash: Obamacare is working in states where Republicans governors are expanding Medicaid. Check out Kentucky.

Nothing. But neither does Obamacare. Republicans first proposed the concept behind Obamacare and Mitt Romney actually implemented it in MA.
Those are facts. They're not Al West or Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh making things up and putting their politics before their country. They're facts.
Oh, and Social Security. That's the thing that Republicans are trying to take away from older folks getting ready to retire. We won't have to worry about it much longer if a Republican is put in the White House.

Look, Lynn, you run a blog and you gotta expect that people are going to want to share their own opinions and views on things in the comments. If you want only like minds to agree with you then say so. But not everyone that disagrees with you or simply wants to correct you is a progressive liberal.

I've Googled Scott's position, I've Googled Obama's position and I'm reading what some of Florida's Republicans are saying about the Governor's position (they're criticizing it). What I've presented is based upon that researched and read.
You can accept it or reject it. Apparently, you reject it. And that's fine. That's all it is. The world will keep turning and hopefully Floridians will get the help they need from this State's politicians.
I just wish all the people who do so well at criticizing did half as well at solving problems.

Perhaps you should run for office at the State level. We might end up with a state income tax in order to afford ourselves. :>) Not a solution I would promote.
I don't think by making a judgment call on your politics and calling you a liberal progressive is considered "name calling." In fact, you called me "hypocritical" so I guess you can sling it.
It IS my blog but I don't mind different views. But for some reason, a snipe always appears even though I consider your comments well written and eons above the average commenter in thought and intelligence.
We just have a different political view. I shouldn't have to come up with the solutions for this country, a far out suggestion I might add. That is why I do NOT like Democrats at this point and time in my life.
