E-Cigarettes declared a health threat in California

Comment Up

Now this is really going to give Dylan Harrison, e-cigarette businessman in our downtown, some consternation--
The State of California just declared e-cigarettes a health threat. California is the leader on social issues.  Watch this policy spread like a California wildfire.

Highlights of the report include:
  • Exposure to nicotine during adolescence can harm brain development.
  • E-cigarettes do not emit a harmless water vapor, but an aerosol that has been found to contain at least 10 chemicals that are on California’s Proposition 65 list of chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.
  • E-cigarettes are not FDA-approved cessation aids.
  • Between 2011 and 2013, e-cigarette advertising jumped more than 1,200 percent and used marketing tactics to appeal to youth. Those tactics include the use of cartoon characters which is prohibited in traditional cigarette advertising.
Read the reports from the California Department of Health.

Smoking kills smokers litter said...

Don't count on FL doing anything too soon, FL is super behind with all on smoking, we still have smoking in bars and public places, unlike CA, they stopped smoking in bars almost 20 years ago. Big tobacco and business control all of that in FL more allowing all this smoking all over the place. It is too bad we have politicians controlled by lobbyist and big business controlling and allowing all this smoking.
