MULTIPLE IMMIGRATION PROGRAMS UNDER FIRE
Several weeks ago there were reports of major flaws in two immigration programs -- asylum applications and the visa lottery.
The
Government Accountability Office found that the Department of Homeland
Security has "limited capabilities" in detecting fraudulent asylum
applications. The GAO found that DHS and the Department of Justice
attempt to detect fraud on a case-by-case basis rather than establishing
"more strategic, risk-based approaches." Asylum applications have
increased by 140% in recent years as foreign citizens become more aware
of the process.
In a separate report, the Inspector General has
found that Visa Lottery winners are prone to Social Security fraud. The
report found that the winners tend to be more careless with their Social
Security Numbers or intentionally give them away because the numbers
tend to be used multiple times with different employers. Specific source unknown as this info has been in my queue for weeks but I wanted to get it out. You can find articles on the Internet.
