Black is White--again

Comment Up

Gosh, we heard it all last night when it came to commissioner Szerdi's and the commission's discussion on height limits in the city--it was shocking really. Opening with opposition to the Charter being a "vehicle for heights," then doing an about face and supporting an Ordinance city-wide on heights in the neighborhoods. Amoroso even suggested a referendum which would include a hotel district and changing the Charter. Some sort of language will come back to the commission.

This majority commission really takes the cake. It believes its own lies. The Respectful Planning PAC concentrated ONLY, let me repeat that, concentrated ONLY on the downtown corridor on the heights referendum. No one who volunteered for the PAC talked about anything else. Scott Maxwell said that people in his neighborhood mislead voters. I originally worked on the petition in his neighborhood. Unless you have a recording, I would say that this statement is highly inflammatory and just sore loser political tactics.

Politicians will resort to anything and say anything to make a point. Commissioner Amoroso complained that the election was only won by 200 plus votes when there are 38,000 people in the city or some such number he used as a total populous, a number flawed for any purpose to use in an election as a justification for anything. Well the mayor won her election by 220 votes and he won his by 575.

Maxwell stated that "we need to get beyond the politics of divisiveness in the community."  I agree. Do that commissioner. Stop playing politics and undermining the will of the people. We are not going to take Mayor Pam Triolo or any other elected official passing off unsubstantiated innuendo as fact. We don't want to "take it anymore" either. And why should we?

Scott also said if you people spent one fraction of the energy you spend bringing this town down into doing things that would create jobs, this town would be a much better place.

Scott Maxwell wants people who were told that skyscrapers would be next to their homes come forward and point a finger. Great going, Scott. Again, have you ever heard of corruption? Do you understand politics at all? Retha Lowe used to give people in her community free hotdogs and sodas to cast a vote for her. Do you think that monied people can't corrupt someone to say or do something totally false? Talk about naive.

Regarding the above comment, Scott can say a lot of things and I believe he actually believes them. It is too bad that he just doesn't know the folks who voted YES. Many of them volunteer, not only in their communities, but across the city. We work to make the system honest, anonymous, not a win predicated on lies such as The Friends of the Gulfsteam pulled.

Maxwell was relying on hearsay twice removed to make his point. How lame!
He wanted the volunteers from the winning YES vote to come forward and tell him the 'lies' he heard they were repeating. But he had the NO vote people in the audience why didn't he ask them to come forward and tell him all the devious mailings and banners and phone calls they made.

Can anyone understand a thing Szerdi says?
The big question should have been what is he actually saying and can Maxwell explain it after he agrees with it.
Too bad Szerdi didn't campaign, maybe someone would be able to explain his position.

I think he stated that the Charter needs to be amended further to bring it into compliance with the Comp Plan and LDR's.

The recent Charter amendment only protected a very small sliver of land that already has 7 or 8 tall buildings in it but did nothing to keep evil developers from using the charter to ride roughshod over all our LDR and Comp Plan ordinances.

This would simply make it all the same (charter, LDR's and Comp Plan) throughout town and coincide with our other ordinances.

At least that's what I think he meant.

Hey Andy, the Commission race in Boynton was decided by THREE votes. I heard that the NO people were threatening to douse people with gasoline and set them on fire if they didnt vote NO.

Hope Mayor Pam Triolo didn't read this,Lynn. Tears of anger might gush forth from her face yet again. Why are these loonies so bat-crap mad that they lost?Just what in the hell did Maxwell,Triolo,Amamroso and Zerti lose when they lost?

Commissioner Scot Maxwell stated at last night's sour grapes fest that "we need to get beyond the politics of divisiveness in the community."
Scotty boy, the ONLY way your wish is going to be granted is if you,Triolo,Szerti and Amaroso take vows of silence.

I think what's supposed to happen after a political loss is the LOSER is supposed to pick up the phone and CONGRATULATE the WINNER. It's called conceding defeat! It's also called good sportsmanship. And it would be a good place for Andy, Scott, Triolo and Szerdi to start if they want to grow as individuals and last as elected officials.

Right now these people are plotting and planning on how to reverse the vote. All they want to do is lie and condemn and get their way.

Hey,my neighbor down the street told me that she was told by a friend of a friend that her neighbor answered the door and a short man on a Segway, pulling a wagon with an old woman with white hair in a bun, told her that if she didn't vote NO then the city was going to be forced to sell everything east of Federal to the Chinese, who were then going to turn the entire town into a huge fire works factory with forced child labor.

LOL. So, do you have something against fireworks?!
Now we all knew damn well that as soon as the referendum passed, the commission majority was going to start crying about the low voter turn out. Of course, low voter turn out was not an issue when they refused to put the item on the November ballot so 10,000 people could vote on it.
Oh no . . . the mayor wanted to make sure that only SAVVY voters would participate in the election, which I made sure to tell the hundreds of ticked off voters that I talked to. So how'd that work out for you, mayor? Guess who's coming to vote next March?! And I'll bet they are not going to like the commission's plans to sell out to the Chinese! hahahahah

I had Yes volunteers come to my home and found their presentation to be honest and straight forward. I'd welcome an additional amendment to further restrict heights in our neighborhoods and I might support a hotel district so long as it was limited to the parcel directly next to the GulfStream.

A Hotel district is ok with me just as long as it is limited to 45 feet.
