McVoy over Stafford for Lake Worth seat
I often agree with The Palm Beach Post
Editorial Board but was stunned that the paper endorsed Jim Stafford
over the thoughtful, intelligent incumbent Christopher McVoy for the
District 2 Lake Worth City Commission seat.
The editorial started
by appearing to give credit to Mr. Stafford for completing the beach
casino project. This makes no sense, because it is through the hard work
of recent and current commissioners, including Commissioner McVoy, that
the project has been completed.
I don’t believe that Mr.
Stafford’s status as a father of four small children gives him an
especially unique perspective for understanding how the city’s high
electric rates affect families on a limited budget. Most people I know —
married, single, with children or not — are similarly budget-limited.
But
I offer another perspective: As the owner of a 1922 cottage with 22
windows, I know that being conservative with the thermostat makes a big
difference in my power bill. While the paper is probably right that
conservation alone won’t be enough to reduce businesses’ power costs,
the importance of conservation should not be underestimated or ignored.
The
editorial stated that Commissioner McVoy “… brings an analytical
approach to problem-solving …” This is the main reason Lake Worth needs
to retain him. The months ahead are very important for understanding the
complicated electric issues. Voting for Christopher McVoy will help to
ensure that the city makes a responsible decision.

McVoy lost my vote when he voted in favor of the fire assessment. If he thinks that more taxes is what Lake Worth needs he has to go. He is a nice guy but I find that he refuses to consider all sides of an argument and refuses to compromise. Once he makes up his mind he will not even listen to you. He repeats the same mantra over and over in support of his position yet fails to address the real issues facing this city. He needs to go,
Is Andrew Marra a brainless twit? That's 3 editorials he got 100% wrong based on??
We need him because he is a morally decent man who is thoughtful and incorruptible.
Do you believe that balancing the budget by spending reserves is the way to go? Triolo has already said that assessments might be considered in the future.
Although the fire assessment was for fire PENSIONS (my main objection for its implementation as well as taxing the poor and wealthy the same amount), pensions have to be paid. Let's see what this commission does.
They barely mentioned retirement benefits during this budget process and what they were going to do with union negotiations going forward. This humongous problem just keeps growing.
