Anyone know of Chiefland, Florida? It's in Levy County, located on the West Coast of Central Florida. Chiefland is in the upper north section of the county. Manatee Springs, the highlight of the area that produces an average of 100 million gallons of clear, cool water daily is located only about 5 miles to the west of Chiefland.

The Suwannee River is also a short distance from Chiefland along U.S. Highway 19. The Suwannee River's waters run for almost 20 miles to the Gulf of Mexico, offering great fishing opportunities for both fresh and salt water anglers.

The Watermelon Festival is held on the first Saturday in June and is perhaps the biggest event in Chiefland during the year, drawing thousands of visitors from all parts of the State.

The one-day event began in 1954, as the City of Chiefland wrapped up the completion of new sidewalks and streets.

From a Watermelon Queen to a watermelon spitting contest, Florida Hometown Democracy was there. And why wouldn't they be? This is just another part of beautiful Florida that they want to protect as does its residents.

Don't forget YES on Amendment 4 this November.
