The White Elephant and Michael Bornstein

Comment Up

A little trivia: When it comes to smarts, elephants are right up there with dolphins, apes and humans and they don't forget.

According to City Manager Michael Bornstein, our pool is a "White Elephant." We know that is blatantly false. But he has his own built-in cheer leading section of the dais and public. Even the bully is blogging and taking the company line, as usual, and the "visionary" commission wants to cut comment from the dais even further ("2 minutes to state your position and 3 minutes to rebut," says the mayor) and just pass whatever he wants?

Bornstein just got a $10,000 raise for what they say is outstanding performance and making great strides in our city over the past three years. The only trouble is, no one knows what they are. One of the main reasons why we don't know what is going on is the simple fact that the public is kept in the dark. A weekly manager's report could help dispel the thoughts of secrecy behind closed doors which he says he will have tonight...maybe. Elephants are loyal to their "families" and this "visionary" is his Lake Worth family that has no problem keeping us pesky residents out of the loop.

We acknowledge he is, for the most part, a likeable fella, but challenge him--forget about it. City managers should stay out of politics. Some have observed that he let everyone in a city commission meeting and on the Internet hear a snide remark about someone whose property value is low and doesn't contribute much to the tax base insinuating that he/she therefore should not have an opinion on much of anything especially the general obligation bond? Some believe it was he who passed the N word incident to the Lake Worth Herald to bring down an opponent who has written to him about decisions/issues for which she disagrees?

Even though we all like elephants, they can trample you to death.

The snide remark was made by Andy Amoroso. But it is getting worse at city hall. Personal attacks are on the rise. No decorum there at all. The commissioners are rude to other commissioners and to the public. Someone with some sense, needs to tell them to knock it off. The CM should do it since the mayor can't/won't act and only gets mad at the public from time to time who boo the actions from the dais.

Not sure which one I like best, the pirate photo or this one. The city attorney maybe should give some advice. There are some really wise guy statements from time to time. Remember Scott recently calling everyone racists who voted against the bond? These are people who represent us?

Bite me hat lady is talking about decorum.

When Bornstein was new here, the residents from ROLO wanted to meet with him about "sunset" and our concerns. He had never even met or talked to any of us. In an e-mail Bornstein said " Have to meet with the "unfriendlies"- Ugh ! " That's what Mike Bornstein thinks of the people of Lake Worth. Katie Mcgiveron

Bornstein just got a $10K raise for outstanding performance and making great strides in LW over the last 3 years and nobody knows what they are??? Maybe someone should hire a local artist to draw a picture of an Ostrich with its head in the sand for those who can’t seem to see what progress has be achieved the last 3 years. Stevie Wonder could see the progress and improvement obtained since he’s moved to LW. No, he doesn’t create more reports that take hours to produce just because someone else did it. He’s busy fixing problems from years ago and there’s still a lot to be fixed. Once again bestselling author Rick Riordan is right when he said, “Humans See What They Want To See.” It’s not hard to see the improvements that are happening in all areas of the town. That is if that’s what you want to see. Is he perfect? A perfect leader doesn’t exist. Does he please everyone every time he does something, no. Jimmy Carter tried that and that didn’t work either. Perhaps some people who claim he doesn’t call them back might try to practice a lesson their moms tried to teach them when they were young that “you attract more flies with honey than with vinegar.”

Still waiting to hear about the accomplishments. All you have told us is that he is too lazy to write a city manager's report.

I'd like to know what the improvements are as well. Crime is out of control, blight remains a major problem although a couple of problem properties have been demolished. There was a lot of publicity about new code enforcement laws that would allow clean up, but I've not seen much actual movement on the clean up (maybe still a work in progress, I don't know since we don't get any reports). I do know the burned out property near my rental property is still be used for drug dealing, prostitution and other criminal activity despite the fact that it has been reported to code once a month (at least) for going on three years now and still no code case.

Let's talk about crime, what progress has been made in that arena? Murders are down, that's good, but crime, homeless campers, robberies, burglaries, the general hassling of law abiding citizens continues, bike thefts, newspaper thefts, metal thefts, etc. What is the City doing about that, do we get a report from PBSO, could resources be better allocated to get more officers on the streets?

So we give the CM a $10K raise and yet the employees have not had a raise in 7 years, they are in negotations now and being told their is $0 for them. I ask you who does all the work for the CM to make him look successful. And not only $0 raises but employees in all departments are looking over their shoulders for who the HR director will fire next. This is a mess

As a staunch ,conservative Republican, I find it quite insulting that you have sullied the symbol of our great party, the elephant, with a picture of Mike Bornstein.Mr. Bornstein's face would be much more appropriate on the democratic party symbol, the Donkey.(Let's face it, the man is an ass).

Will someone take time to tell these idiots the list of accomplishments Born stein has made. From fixing Stanton mess to making city employees proud.
Anon at 8:20 Born stein is also a conservative republican. Give us answers to problems NOT CONTINUOUS bitching.

There was NO Stanton mess.
Stop the name calling, if you can. Thanks.

One more thing, if Bornstein is a "conservative" Republican, then I guess he really agrees with me on just about everything. :)

$10K to the City Manager and another $15K to the HR Director. Nice reward for firing all the employees that have been fired so far and $0 for employees who do all the work to make them successful. Maybe someone should ask the employees what is really going on in our city.

If it leaked out, they would probably be fired. This city is not exactly into truth.
