This is a lovely little addition to our city and is situated right around the corner from Commissioner Maxwell whose own property is pristine. What a shame that neighbors have had to look at this for so long. Code enforcement seems to be cleaning up some areas that have been eyesores but this one has been around for eight years.
Isn't it funny that not one question at the debate was asked about the slum and blight in our city. This is the most important issue that faces us right now. Get everyone to clean up their places--pick up trash, paint their houses, pressure clean their walks, driveways and fences, mow their grass and prune their shrubs, etc. and crime will go down. Let's take some pride in where we live. Property values will go up and people will want to move here.
How long has this been going on? Since 2008.
Manuel Gonzalez bought the property in July 2014 for $7,500 and later put it up for sale asking $65,000. It sold again just five months ago for $28,000. The land value is $44,445.

Wow that's pretty bad. That's quite unusual since most of lake worth has been getting much better looking hopefully the new owner will renovate soon.
This is right around the corner from where I live, and it is disgusting that NOTHING is being done. Not like we haven't complained. I would think Scott can't help but notice it, he practically has to trip over it. This is not my idea of progress and is a threat really as it practically advertises "Please make me a crack house." So far our neighborhood is relatively clear of crime; but this really doesn't help. I don't understand the problem. This sits there and I get a citation for being an "abandoned and overgrown house." My grass was long after 2 weeks of solid rain. WTF--do they need continuing ed to know what abandoned means? I do speak out; can we be sure Code Compliance isn't being used for political punishment? I don't understand--
To the Maxwell politico who told me to stop complaining and go get a job because I don't have to trim bushes or pressure clean stuff by living in a condo and these commissioners can't do everything or whatever--and they have jobs, kids and stuff.....yeah, right.
No, that's why I live in a condo and we contract with people to do all of that for us. Maybe one day, you too will be able to reach retirement and figure out how to hire people to do the work you don't have time to do or the ability to do. Of course, you could hire people right now if that is your excuse as to why your house looks like crap. :)
We are all tired of the excuses in this city for slum, blight and crime.
Sadly, code is a farce. They focus on low hanging fruit, yard too long and allow safety and health issues to fester. As far as I can tell code is equal opportunity, meaning they don't listen to either "side" they simply just don't do their jobs. This commission tried to get them going, said we needed new ordinances, etc. but nothing has changed.
Lack of a diligent and focused code enforcement dept. rivals crime issues as the two most important issues facing the City and no one seems to talk about either. If the City would address code and crime, then investment (both residential and business) as well as tourism would follow. No one is going to come to our city when we have a homeless camp in the middle of the City and multiple abandoned and decaying properties on our main roads, Lake Lucerne, Federal and Dixie, 10th and 6th.
