Comment Up

Wal-Mart: Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Publix: Open 16 hours a day, 7 days a week—7 to 11

Wal-Mart: 93,000 square feet
Publix: 33,000 square feet

Wal-Mart: Being built on Federal Highway and Gulfstream Blvd bordering residential properties
Publix: Being built on Dixie Highway and 2nd Avenue North bordering residential properties

Wal-Mart: Boynton CRA gives them $75 thousand over 5 years for the promise of 150 full-time jobs
Publix: Lake Worth CRA gives them $500 HUNDRED THOUSAND towards infrastructure payable when job is complete and City approves.

Wal-Mart: Is a Public company traded on the NYSE under the symbol WMT
Publix: Is a private corporation and only the employees can buy stock

Wal-Mart: Residents spoke out Against
Publix: Residents spoke out on 11-09-09 For and ignored a Publix already located in Lake Worth as if it did not exist. The residents didn't want any Commissioner to ask any questions...just give them the deal...give them the money. Same mentality prevailed as when we went with PBSO.

Wal-Mart: Elected officials spoke out FOR
Publix: Elected politicians spoke out FOR with Commissioner Jennings asking the hard questions.

I have been told that since our CRA and City has approved the Publix supermarket in our City, that the Hispanic, Miami based Presidente will no longer be opening a store at 1300 N. Dixie Highway.

I received an e-mail from a resident of Lake Worth who made this comment: “This is crazy to put a Wal-Mart in this spot-- its right on Federal in old Boynton. It will be a waste of money and infrastructure for the city of Boynton. And all the politicians will vote for this. I'm against this; it's more of the same that got us into the mess that we are in now. It's just like the Publix that we are trying to do here.”

Regarding the market opening at 1300 N. Dixie, the new Mariachi Market will be opening there in about one week.

Since I shop at The Publix on Lake as well as Sedano's on Dixie with regularity I do not think that the new Mariachi supermarket will feel competition from Publix, rather it will come from Sedano's given the customer base and location.

As a resident of the neighborhood close to the location of the new Publix I have heard nothing but "hurry up" as far as getting the store here. The infrastructure improvements will include replacing the hazardous sidewalk on North J. Perhaps you might want to attend a Mango Grove NA meeting and speak with the residents. In fact representatives from Publix will be at the next meeting this Thursday.

Well, if Publix were to give us our $500,000 back, I might attend. Until then, not interested. When you have someone or a group handing out free money, who in their right mind would say "no?" I don't blame Publix particularly on this one. It has always been the CRA. Also,
