Lake Worth - Tooting its own Horn

Comment Up

I find it some what incredulous that we have to have a ribbon cutting for repairing infrastructure in Lake Worth.  I suppose it is a tremendous achievement as it has been neglected for 100 years according to Scott Maxwell. Politicians were there for their photo-op and staff is just doing their job that they are paid to do.

6th Ave South – Federal to Dixie Roadway Improvements Project – Ribbon Cutti

The City of Lake Worth  announced the completion of the 6th Ave South Roadway Improvements Project which spans from Dixie Hwy to Federal Hwy.

On Monday, the City performed a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the much anticipated reconstruction of this gateway entrance into the City.

The project consisted of the installation of new curbing, sidewalks, ADA compliant curb ramps, traffic calming, drainage improvements, landscaping, pavement reconstruction, and new striping and signage.

Why can't you just celebrate something positive happening in the city

Because, anonymous, I find this just plain STOOOOOOPID to make a PR out of it. It is maintenance.
I leave all the positive PR stuff to AnnaMaria.

Putting out a notice of something of this nature is over the top. This was planned in the CIP. Whatever is your problem, anony at 8:02. Should the city have a PR just for doing their jobs and what's budgeted? The city said that this strip was a gateway into Lake Worth. that is really stretching it. When a PR occurs it will be over something other than a budgeted operation. It will be when the residents win their lawsuit against this city. That will be something to brag about.

The city doesn't know what makes up the Gateways. The Gateways are 6th Ave South and 10th Ave North from the west up to Dixie Highway.

They have all the stupid they need with Kevin and Mark.

I don't care unless it costs money and I'd bet this costs money. Why not take the money you spend on pr and ribbon cutting and spend that money on infrastructure repairs.

Ribbon cutting should be saved for a new park or something like that, the renovated casino made sense. Ribbon cutting for paving a road is just dumb.

I like what they've done the 6th Ave., South. And now pedestrians won't get hit dashing across the road if they use the bumped out crosswalks which are really helping and definitely slowing down traffic.

Nothing moronic about it, anonymous @3:53. It's a different opinion; that's all it is.
You want to pat yourself on the back and have the press at a ribbon cutting--go for it. But basic infrastructure repairs/improvements such as this are not a ribbon cutting event...other than to say, "Well, gee, we finally did something." :)

Let's assume it does cost $100 to do a ribbon cutting, who knows if it is higher or lower. When you spend a $100 on a ribbon cutting for every road project those ribbon cuttings add up. Just about every other week there is a post about the City doing a ribbon cutting. 5 ribbon cuttings is $500 that is quite a few potholes. So why not take the ribbon cutting money and put it into fixing the potholes.

We are operating in the red, we don't have extra money to waste. Ribbon cutting is not a resident service, it serves no purpose except to waste money. Do you really want your city tax dollars that could go to actually fixing pot holes to go for ribbon cutting? If the answer is yes, well you could underwrite the cost of the ribbon cutting, then you could have your celebration for every road and tax dollars could go to actual services.

You people are ridiculous

Keep on "tooting."
No matter how much you do of it, the city still looks like a disaster.

The new "build outs" are CRAP! No bike lanes, I almost had a head on with a large truck that came barreling down the middle where it's still a road. A palm tree has already been taken out by a swerving car.Look for more accidents to come. Honestly ,everything this administration touches turns to poo!
