New Campaign Election Laws

Comment Up

Municipal Elections, Referendums & Political  Committees

The Florida legislature changed the voting laws that came into effect on November 1, 2013. Not only can our local candidates receive double the individual contribution (up from $500 to $1,000), but they also can roll over  balances to $20,000 in unspent funds into re-election campaigns. Exaggerated to make a point, all incumbents, especially our present commission, could be commissioners for life! They all will have a monetary advantage over anyone who would oppose them in the future.

Excess campaign funds for our "visionaries" as of M1 and Q1 report:

TRIOLO:      $4,137.38
AMOROSO: $6,308.67 (I believe there is a mistake on his Q1--In-Kind was counted as a cash contribution)
MAXWELL: $4,050.83

Of course they did give that big after election party to themselves where they had no opponents that has not yet appeared on a Treasury expense report.

Maybe Wes can file a campaign elections complaint with Tallahassee. Ooops, no, forgot, Andy is one of the boys.

Why does someone need so much money to run for office in a 5 square mile town?
