Arrogance abounds.
Lake Worth's Vice Mayor Scott Maxwell still wants baseball at John Prince Park and so do a few others who have no problem tearing up 80 to 100 acres of a deed restricted Palm Beach County park. These are probably the same group of people who dismiss the deed restrictions on our golf course and dream of development on the waterfront. A few officials have been working behind the scenes to bring the John Prince Park site idea to fruition. It doesn't matter what residents in Maxwell's district feel about it and that they don't want to play his ball game.
Dated April 12, 1940 the document states:
(This conveyance is made on the condition that the area above described is to be used for park and forest purposes only, and should said area be used for any purpose other than park and forest, the title to said land shall automatically revert and become the property of the Trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund of the State of Florida.)
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for this area. For us not to explore the possibilities is irresponsible," said Lake Worth Commissioner Scott Maxwell. Even Lake Worth city attorneys Glen Torcivia and Barbara Alterman attended the meeting to push for John Prince Park. It's incredible when elected officials and their hired help believe they know better than the people they serve.
Read the PBPost article where "leaders" from Lake Worth, Greenacres and Palm Springs have been politicking behind the scenes and where Maxwell has been telling all of you in his Lake Osborne District to "screw off." "Plans have been made that show the main stadium facing east toward Lake Osborne, creating the potential for kayakers to collect home run balls hit into the water – similar to AT&T Park in San Francisco, where balls land in San Francisco Bay."
Actually, if this were to happen, we will be able to catch balls standing on our condo balconies.

Scott Maxwell came to the ROLOH meeting unannounced . Commissioner Maxwell was NOT asked to leave our meeting. He stood up and INVITED himself to leave. We could not have forced him to leave. He left of his own accord. And we have a room full of witnesses, including a P.B.S.O. officer , to back these FACTS up.
This is a low blow to our neighborhood (and the entire county )on the part of county commissioner Shelly Vana, city staff, our Commissioners and Mayor. Do you feel ANY confidence in a Mayor who is so clueless that she acts on something that she knows nothing about? Before she originally voted for this measure, she had only known about this issue FOUR days.
Scott Maxwell is LYING when he says that he told the ROLOH leaders about John Prince Park being the site of a possible baseball stadium.
Scott Maxwell is the poster boy for district by district voting. We don't need snakes like Scott Maxwell in office. Join us when we kick his ample azz to the curb.
The citizens of Lake Worth deserve better than this self serving publicity hound that operates in the shadows. We can do better next election, and we will.
Way to go. Maxwell and Vana. Screwing over the citizens and claiming to care about them at the same time. Lying through your collective teeth. Kayakers will just LOVE to dodge falling baseballs. That's why people go kayaking, right? To catch baseballs? Maxwell ,you and Vana are already out of the closet.Just go ahead and start wearing your : Yes, as a matter of fact , I am for sale " shirts in public. It won't be a surprise to anyone. Wonder who the next Palm Beach County Commissioner to go to jail will be? Not really a secret anymore ,is it?
Its amazing that he holds the bat and looks constipated at the same time. Wishing yours was bigger Maxtrash?
How do you describe Scott Maxwell? The BIGGEST BULLY GOING.
Is it possible that Vana and Maxwell are being paid off by the same people that are financing disgraced ex congressman turned lobbyist Mark Foley? Future headline: Kayaker knocked unconscious by baseball.
Has anyone noticed the three most prominent names and group mentioned in P.B.Post?
Shelly Vana,(with last term),Scott Maxwell and the LOBBYISTS(read money bags) and the present occupant of our Mayor Seat, who after 2 1/2 year, occupation, has delivered the worst, lowest property values and no sustainable jobs, inability to bring businesses, afraid of the City's corrupt, mismanagement, have the City teetering on edge of Bankruptcy!!!Ignorant mob choice!
No mention of traffic over load, trash of visitors(usually primitive,ill-mannered,their millions of empty styrofoam containers,
and Lake Worth
L.W.Taxpayers, Addie Greene left her last term with a no-bid $95,000,000 Contract for a Contractor friend in Georgia!
She made money to pay for her run of Public Office in her Town!!!
Maxwell/Vana. Commission and lobbyists........money speaks loudest!
I'd like to have a conversation about a strong mayor (eliminate the CM), the pro's and con's of that change next to district by district voting. At least we'd have a body connected to our district and the mayor (if a strong mayor) could be eliminated every 2 years. No more Silent Pirate!
Next is the CRA run by commission or as elected positions. Run the numbers and see if it's possible to move them (till their time is over) to the truly BLIGHTED areas and get them out of our TAX BASE!
16 (or 17) Boards should have have Mission Statement; Goals and ALL BOARD MEMBER INFO posted so we can contact them and know what is going on and who is making these decisions for US. If there are not enough people to seat the board don't change the rules but remove the board. We don't need extra reps - just the ones we elected to LISTEN to US 1st (then share your bright ideas AFTER US) instead of begging permission to implement what YOU decided for US!
I'd say that deed restriction are legally enforceable, but that is just not true these days. Look at the redevelopment fights around the county regarding old golf courses. While the property was restricted, those restrictions were overturned. Look at Chapel by the Sea in WPB, that property, which was created from fill many, many, years ago, was permitted to be created so long as it remained open land. Well the City of WPB has overturned that deed restriction and permitted a huge, out of character condo building, by making hundreds of waivers, density, traffic, set back, etc. waivers.
Realtors and developers have way more power than us residents and tax-payers.
Gosh, Weetha--that was great commentary. Thanks.
Only one danger to a strong mayor--we might get someone like Lois Frankel. Our city manager needs to be much more candid and transparent--other than a zinger towards me, he's anything but.
nadine Bruns suggested years ago that your entire area be razed to the ground so that development could come in. Is that the next thing this commission will do?
Nothing ever surprises me when it comes to politicians, especially corrupt ones. :)
Deed restrictions probably have gone the way of library trust fund designations. If they have a lawyer and you don't, guess what happens. I have learned how to establish real trusts in case of future gifts, however.
