Tonight's City Commission Meeting

Comment Up

We have a commission meeting tonight.  Did you glance at the agenda?  There are five presentations that are allotted 10 minutes each, depending upon who is presenting that is.  Some have gone on as long as 30 minutes. Then there are sixteen items on the Consent Agenda.

After that, we get to the nitty gritty where they will be regulating balloons and sky lanterns on city property as they cause environmental disasters and have been known to be ingested by some wildlife. Some of the exemptions to the ordinance are:

· Possession of balloons or sky lanterns when such items are moved from a vehicle or structure to another structure and the resulting exposure to the outdoors is de minimus.
· Display, possession or release of balloons indoors. (That's a good thing as I have balloons all over my apartment)
· Display or possession of sky lanterns indoors. (How would they even work indoors? They are clarifying that they won't come into your house to yank down a sky lantern)

· Display, possession or release of balloons by a governmental agency for scientific or meteorological purposes.

Then there is New Business where they talk about land development regulations once again. This is an ongoing topic (as they are constantly changing them) and whatever comes up for discussion is always approved by the Planning & Zoning Board and the Historic Resource Preservation Board. We can always count on them to get it all right.

Next on the agenda is to designate the fund balances for year 2016. After reading the Consent Agenda, will there be any fund balances left?

We will be getting some relay panels at the Hypoluxo Station for $151,146. The Hypoluxo Station is the single location that the City ties to the bulk electric system at 138 kV. The station is owned by the City and operated by FPL per contractual agreement. FPL has approached the City to upgrade its end of the transmission line protective devices at Hypoluxo.

We will also be buying a new pick-up truck for the Utility for right under $40k.

The millions of dollars they put on consent they don't talk about but they can get turned on to balloons? That's why the city has no money.

I'll never understand the primitive impulse to release balloons, or worse yet doves into the atmosphere. What does that do for you? The next time you hear a really really loud bang, and your electricity goes off, and your computer crashes, it may be one of your balloons stuck in the transformer. If you don't believe me, ask an FPL or Lakeworth Electric tech.

At least doves don't hurt the environment. They mean peace, love and prosperity.

Balloons get their own agenda item. A 40,000,000 dollar 30 year debt to every resident and business does not rate an agenda item. It gets shoved onto the consent agenda.
And THAT ladies and gentleman is why this city is TOTALLY FUC$ED UP !!!!
