"State Assembly Republican Leader Chad Mayes said recently that California has "the highest poverty rate in the nation" when considering the U.S. Census Bureau’s Supplemental Poverty Measure.
Data from that report, and researchers who study poverty, support Mayes’ statement. The state’s 20.6 percent poverty rate is higher than any other, though Florida’s 19 percent rate is close, especially when considering the margin of error.
The supplemental report is considered by experts the best state-by-state measure of poverty, because it takes into account geographic differences in cost-of-living, not just income levels.
In his statement, Mayes cited the specific report that backs his claim, and added the context that another report, one that doesn’t account for cost-of-living, shows California’s poverty closer to the national average."
That's a total lie about Florida. TOTAL LIE. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_poverty_rate Look, I don't have time for your "crap."
We have a high poverty rate due to all the illegls here living off the system and the generosity of the US government and the State for food stamps, etc.
Lily probably depends on Snopes-two fat asses on a couch. With a cat. That's the thing with libs. They open their mouths and the lies fall out. Then they get offended when they get fact checked.
Lynn, the Wikipedia link you provided shows Cali as #35.
The reason that I provided the Politifact info is because it used the methodology that the LA Times piece used i.e. the U.S. Census Bureau’s Supplemental Poverty Measure. It's a poverty rate factoring in the cost of living and not just a straight rate like the Wikipedia info.

And Florida is #2, believe it or not. Those are the facts.
If you're going to say that Cali is #1 using the Census Bureau's SPM, that's fine and it's accurate. But Florida IS #2 using the same methodology.
Facts don't have a political bias.
