THIS CRA IS A HUGE RACKET, HOW LONG HAVE THEY BEEN IN EXISTENCE? 30 YEARS OF MORE? WHY DON'T WE SEE MORE AND BETTER RESULTS? IT IS A SIN THAT THEY PAY JOAN SO MUCH OF OUR TAX MONEY. THE REAL GOAL OF THE CRA "SHOULD" BE TO MAKE ALL THE IMPROVEMENTS TO EVENTUALLY ABOLISH THEMSELVES I THINK, YET THEY DO NOT WANT THAT, THAT IS WHY YOU HARDLY SEE ANY REAL RESULTS IN ALL THESE YEARS, STILL BLIGHT, CRIME, DUMPY CONDITIONS, LITTLE SIDEWALKS, BAD ROADS, IT IS A HUGE SCAM THIS ENTIRE CRA THING WE HAVE HERE. SO POLITICAL AND JUST A HUGE WASTE AND SIN TO THE GOOD TAX PAYING CITIZENS OF THIS CITY. A HUGE SCAM AND RACKET! HOW CAN WE RESPECT OUR ELECTED OR THE CRA?

First of all you can learn to use a keyboard.

The CRA has and continues to do great things for the city. Because of the CRA, Lake Worth has lead the county in increased property valuation for the last two years. The CRA was instrumental in bulldozing dozens of blighted and abandoned homes left vacant and used by drug abusers and prostitutes and replaced them with brand new single family homes and multi family apartments. About 155 separate brand new energy efficient living units. In doing so, it helped create jobs and improved infrastructure. It created public parks in neighborhoods that had none.It has obtained grants for worthwhile projects that have not cost you one red cent. The CRA has been instrumental in bringing arts and The Cultural Council to Lake Worth. The CRA has expanded new development west of the tracks in the neighborhoods most in need of new development and won national recognition and awards for the innovative Urban Arts Lofts project. It continues to push for improvements throughout the district. If you have specific suggestions or complaints about how the CRA operates, please show up at any or all of their meetings. They are open to the public and you are always able and encouraged to speak on any of your concerns. The board is made up of Lake Worth residents and business owners that have the same wants a desires you have to improve conditions in Lake Worth. The staff at the Lake Worth CRA gets things done. We are fortunate to have all of them.

I agree with you Weetha! So, how many years has the Lake Worth CRA been active? I think a lot of people do not go to these meetings because they feel they are criticized for bringing up issues or saying anything contrary to all these business people appointed to this board. I agree with the other poster that is should really be one of those committees that should be made obsolete once its job is done, but no one wants that here. The political appointees have a lot to gain for their businesses by keeping Lake Worth blighted, the realtors are the real issue for one. Didn't you just love that the CRA gave something like 1.3 million in tax breaks to build that monster called the Lucerne in our downtown? Oh yes, the CRA is doing so much for our lovely potholed streets and no sidewalks, bring more artist here Joan! Her and that committee are for the birds!

First of all, most of the people who love this historic, low-rise beach town do NOT want to see historic homes and cottages bulldozed. What the CRA has built in place of the 100+ historic homes it has bulldozed is cheap, ugly townhomes that will be worth ZIP in a few years time. The government should *not* be in the business of building homes, giving people homes, bulldozing homes. It should enforce occupancy and other local codes, and make people MAINTAIN their homes. Time to take the CRA back. NOW. They've done nothing to revitalize our town. Our town is going to hell, with rising crime, more vacant buildings and middle class people moving out.

The head of the Lake Worth CRA does not live in Lake Worth. The number 2 staff person at the CRA also does not live in Lake Worth. The chairman of the board of the CRA also does not live in Lake Worth. He lives in West Palm Beach. None of this should be allowed. If you don't like Lake Worth enough to live here, you shouldn't be making huge decisions about what our town should look like and how grant money should be spent here.

The CRA employs people. Nowhere is it a requirement that employees live in the City. If you think a board member is breaking one of the requirements for membership, file a complaint.

Ask the neighbors of these "quaint little historic cottages" that had no roofs, broken windows, termites out the wazoo and were filled with trash and debris from squatters and druggies if they wanted to continue living next to them or the new single family homes with actual families in them.

The CRA didn't build homes, didn't give anyone anything. The CRA can't enforce occupancy or any other codes. It can't "make" anyone maintain their home. What they can and did do was change what was once slum rentals and renewed large portions of some of our worst neighborhoods. Many of the new families who occupy the new homes are active in their neighborhood associations. Many of the long gone structures were the very overcrowded slums you say "someone" should get rid of.

Your comments show how little you know about what the CRA does and does not do.

If this is true then, why is this allowed? Especially the chair of the CRA not living in this city, he has NO right even being on this board and should have stepped down immediately after not officially living in this city. This is unethical and corrupt. Then you wonder why citizens have not respect for the CRA, Joan, and most of this commission, you wonder? What a joke, the CRA thinks they have done so much for this city, right like tearing down old beautiful buildings like used to be at 1306 Lucerene. Is this because this owner is on another city boards, they are all in cahoots, so much collusion from the greedy s0b's. What a joke Joan and Cory!

Wow you can see by these comments from the CRA, they are ticked off now at all of us that do not agree with them existing. A more effective city and effective leaders do not need a CRA in their city, it is all political and a huge racket, that is it bottom line. They are a joke and should be eliminated!

Welcome to pequeno guatemala! This is the new name for Lake Worth-pueblo campin as it says on a building on Lucerne and C St. Oh, was the CRA supposed to do something about blight?

@2:19 If Cary Sabol does not live here then his business
must be licensed in the city. I don't believe either is the case. Perhaps the CRA can enlighten.

To those who say a complaint should be filed by a citizen - Why should it be on the citizens to enforce laws and rules? CRA staff knows CRA chair Cary Sabol lives in West Palm Beach. At least one commissioner -- Andy Amoroso -- knows Cary lives in West Palm Beach. Cary knows he should not be serving as the head of our CRA when he does not live here. What the f*** is the problem?? Can't anyone do the right thing? Step down, Cary. And there absolutely should be a requirement that staff live here. If you don't like Lake Worth enough to live here then you do not see what we (the residents of this charming town) see and can't be trusted to make decisions that will change the town forever.

CRA's are a collusion between Politicians and developers to over develop communities with money extracted from taxpayers (causing their property taxes to increase).
The developers get breaks from CRA's-10 years tax revenue from the Lucerne to its developer- and the peoples' money is spent on projects they, in many cases, would not approve if they had an opportunity to vote on them.
Politicians get contributions from developers as a thank you for supporting their unwanted projects.
Although the citizen's money is spent by the CRA, the CRA has no accountability to them.
Occasionally the CRA has to put up with citizen comments; otherwise they are loose cannons.
Does anyone think the former shuffleboard courts look better with the grotesque mural painted by the organization that charges big money for art classes but PAYS NO RENT to our city?

I agree with the above poster, a real collusion. Do you know too that the vice chair also doesn't live in Lake Worth anymore, she moved to New York or New England, just owns here and comes here some and sells houses here,Madlyn McKendry, another piece of work in this city. She is working from up north now and lives up there full time, yet is still on the CRA board too, so unethical. She is the realtor who allows all this crazy stuff with the CRA and developers to take place, the people on this board are all in bed with developers, don't let them fool you as to why they want to be on this board. She is in it for the bookoo bucks$$$$$$$$$$$ she is getting! They all have an other real reasons, what is Cary's? Disgraceful, almost as disgraceful as what Mark Foley did.

That vice chair on the CRA too is not nice to most people who disagree with her, a real vile individual. Too bad she has so many cats and her house stunk up the neighborhood up on 10th N and Lakeside.

How are we supposed to respect the CRA and the people that are on it or run it? How?

The CRA is a huge scam! You are so right:"Politicians get contributions from developers as a thank you for supporting their unwanted projects.

How can people respect the elected, joan, cary, mady, any of them?

They are SICK and delusional! We know the truth CRA!

I agree why aren't our elected and their paid employees enforcing this? Why is it overlooked? Why is it allowed? How unethical can these folks get? We have this problem and then do you know that so many people here have homestead exemption on their homes here, yet rent them out and live somewhere else like Hawaii or another city or state, they never get caught because no one enforces anything, like Cary abusing his right to serve. I am ashamed of the elected officials we have on board now. Shame on you all!

Paul and weetha are right and this is sad to read here. Andy you are a disgrace to humanity, cary and joan and the mayor too, shame on all the developers and CRA for this collusion. Snowing us all, what a scam. We need to put an end to the CRA in Lake Worth, not until we do will we ever see it cleaned up, blight will continue, the CRA has had 40 years to clean this city up and it is only worse now, it looks like help, thanks Cary and all who do not even live in Lake Worth!

If wes and mr. rice, and all of these pillar people who know this why don't they speak or do anything about this allowing people on boards who do not even live here? I am afraid they are part of the problem, maybe something to gain from all these unethical crooks. If we have all these ambassadors who care so much about this city, why do they allow all these unethical things to be allowed or overlooked, aren't they just as much part of the problem? This is all very disturbing. People need to wake up and start questioning everything in this city.

Yes, you are right, greg rice is part of the problem. He is a chair of a board too, it is all pay to play, the CRA bulldozes his blighted building for favors, then he now can sell it to build a high rise that can be approved by the CRA and his board he is part of with all his cronies. Don't count on him being too ethical either as much of what he has done in the past is not to upright either. They all wash each others hands, favor, etc. So unethical, but we are watching and know the truth, God does too gregory!

Anonymous said...

Wes why don't you expose the truth here, you know the truth, yet allow all this unethical stuff to take place, why are you part of the problem?

I wish the CRA would maintain CRA projects. I think at least a third of the 10th ave. benches/markers are broken or missing pieces. Why spend all that money on a project to not maintain it??
