Ad Valorem Taxes on City owned beach property

Comment Up

Aside from the tremendous amount they pay per square foot, the merchants at the beach are paying a lot of taxes on our city owned property at the Lake Worth beach. They have been charged more for expenses now that the city knows the actual costs to operate the building. It took the city a year to learn the true costs. The percentage of cost increases have not been consistent across the board with some merchants paying much higher per sq. ft. than others.

They have all been billed for their share of ad valorem taxes by the city and the amounts below are due by April 1, 2014.

Benny's: $26,330.51
BF Enterprises: $12,978.70
Mama Mias: $12,824.65
Maxplan enterprises (Kilwins): $12,824,65
Shore Restaurants of Lake Worth (Mulligans): $48,159.84

If I were a merchant I would be asking why I am paying on the land value? It seems that the city should be paying that or exempt from that.

They're paying what was agreed in their leases. There is no need for them to argue with the city about it.
That's what a lease is for. I would expect that a finance director like Steve Carr made sure that all the tenants knew what to expect with plenty of time to prepare. It's a non-issue. Cost of doing business.
