Lake Worth Beach

Comment Up
When talking to people, they all like the beach the way that it is...
No changes necessary they say but maybe cheaper parking.
They love our restaurants--Mulligans, Mamma Mia's and Benny's
and dig the candy and ice cream at Kilwin's.
They especially love the Lake Worth Beach T-Shirt Company
 owned by Barry
and everyone who works there.
An extremely hot day yesterday and the beach was crowded.
To cool down, had a cup of Kilwin's creamy peach ice cream

I love our beach and I don't want this commission to allow any further commercialization there.

Clearly the upstairs restaurant space needs to be filled. I would actually love to see the pool locker-rooms and bathrooms redone at some point, and it would be great to open the pool up towards the ocean. But the pool locker-room re-do could wait for a few years until the beach debt is worked downwards.

Frankly, I think parking should be more expensive, charge more for the first hour and current rate for second and third. The parking lot is often jammed and that means that prices should go up not down. City can use that money for maintenance and debt payments.

I seem to remember hearing almost the exact same comments before you were able to "save" the old building.

Yep, "like it just the way it is" , "parking could be cheaper", yep and we even "saved" John G's and New York Pizza Department, both still in business.

A win, win all around.

I also like it but with improvements in pool area. I like the idea about opening it more to the beach. There are many who don't even know the pool is there.
If they would enforce the parking there would definitley be more money in the purse. I still believe there are many parking in the decal parking lot due to the fact the signs are easy to miss.
City needs to aggressviely pursue the lease upstairs. How is it even being marketed??????

I haven't eaten at John G's since their fleecing of Lake Worth came to light. They got away with tons of cash, when it came time to actually start paying a reasonable sum for oceanfront space they said no way.

I say don't let the door hit you on the way out John G's.

That is NOT what happened, anonymous. They were treated like CHIT by the city and they left. And no one fleeced anyone. The lease, as I have told you many times before, was GIVEN TO THEM BY THE CITY. It was the city's terms--they accepted. They were/are a cash only business. I believe that Mamma Mia's is as well.

They were treated like Chit because that John G owner lady bitched constantly to customers about the city and commission Cara Mulvihill Golden raising their rent. They screwed us royally.

@ 3:38...that is untrue. They were willing to pay the lease amount. How come you continue to make things up about them? They are no longer here and loving it in Manalapan at a place that didn't give them a difficult time as our city did to all our long-time grandfathered-in tenants.

The Casino, swimming pool, and parking lot are what we are talking about. Never the sand or beach waves. I refuse to discuss the word beach. It's the Casino swimming pool or parking lot we are at issue on.

Casino?Where? Can someone please give a logical explication why the beach building is called casino? I know it was a casino long time ago but it's not today. Is there a monument, plaque, or some type of historical marker stating so?

The reference to "casino" will probably die out in time. Who knows...perhaps when Hudson Holdings takes over our building they will rename it the Hudson Building.
It's sort of the same premise as the Shuffleboard Court Building. NO one calls it by its new name. Thanks, CRA.
