Lake Worth Alumni Association

Comment Up

The Lake Worth Alumni Association had its bi-yearly fundraiser breakfast at Atlantis Country Club on Tuesday morning. This is a remarkable group and one of which I am proud to know.  It has and continues to raise a lot of money for needy students by awarding scholarships every year--always giving back to the community.  And just think, one of its members, Jimmy Addison, was kicked out of the city chamber by Jeff Clemens for using a "nasty" descriptive ("it looks like chit")  when talking about the 6th Avenue South Gateway.

Lake Worth Dollars for Scholars (DFS) became only the third DFS chapter in Florida and was formed in 1999. Since then, they have awarded scholarships in progressive amounts each year starting with $10,000 in 1999 and $87,000 in 2014. This year they didn't even have to use the interest but rolled it over to increase the principal. Below is the graph through 2013:

Why does this take place in Atlantis and not in Lake Worth?

You will have to ask the Alumni board but I believe that in the beginning, Atlantis worked with them to give the association great accommodations, free parking, etc., and they have stayed with them ever since. also, I do not believe that the City of LW has reached out to this group in any way.
