Herb Score Lake Worth's Lost Legend.
This is a wonderful story about our famous resident, Herb Score, graduate of Lake Worth High School.
And for a little trivia: In case you were not aware, Herb Score, played ball at Memorial Field, now called the City of Lake Worth Harold Grimes Memorial Field.
Mayo Smith, a really famous person, moved to Lake Worth when he was eleven and went to Lake Worth High. He also played at Memorial Field. The field was named for
him at one time and according to an historian, the city dropped his name
when we started using ball fields in the north end for baseball. It then
became plain old Memorial Field, a name to satisfy everyone from the past and on into the future.
Well, in September 2013, this commission renamed the ball field--it was changed once again. Instead of remembering the heroes of the past or keeping the name of the field generic in honor of all past heroes or deserving residents, they got political and changed the name for Harold Grimes who lived in the Osborne area and was an employee of the high school for 21 years.
With some, there is just no sense or knowledge of the history in our city. Politicians easily dismiss those who came before.

I played on that field when I was a kid. They should just leave the name Memorial Field and just put memorial plaques near it to remember our famous residents.
Nice to be reminded of our outstanding graduates from Lake Worth. There are many of them. Well written story on Herb's life. Kudos to the PB Post
& then there's former Lake Worth Mayor & Minor League Ball Player Jim Stafford (LWHS Class of 1938) who served in World War ll in the 14th Air Force (Flying Tigers) and was General Claire Lee Chennault's Public Relations Officer.
