The Surprise, or was it?

Comment Up

It's deja vu in Lake Worth. It always is. We have a commission that refuses to listen. It really should be no surprise by now that this commission wants its way. It can lose elections but still, just like a pit bull, they continue on with their own agenda. Last night was no exception.

Resident Peter Timm spoke in public commentary about the general obligation bond and suggested that the commission was going to bring the whole nightmare back for the people to decide again. The last time he spoke on this subject, a PBSO deputy was standing behind him. The commission didn't want to hear what he had to say then. Actually, they don't want to hear anything anyone has to say unless it's in agreement with their views.

Where Mr. Timm and I differ is that he is not exactly against the amount of money or the debt that this commission wants to straddle on all the property owners but the "fairness" of it all--some will pay nothing and those with expensive properties will pay through their nose. He still believes that everyone should pay the same amount on an assessment on their ad valorem. Glen Torcivia, city attorney, explained it again why that can't happen but said to the commission, "I will look into it again to see if there is any way." He got the consent to spend more billable hours by silence from the commission. They MUST have all this cash. I just believe in living within our means. Find government grants. Find another way of getting the money instead of taxing a poor city's poor population.

On January 27, there will be a workshop at Compass where the public is invited in order to give their suggestions as to how we can pay for all these improvements that this commission says is absolutely necessary...find a way to tax ourselves and be happy.

John Szerdi wants the residents to come up with some creative financing. Can you even imagine that? The average household makes $35,000 a year (that's after throwing in all the one-percenters into the mix) and struggles saving pennies in a jar. Christopher McVoy was taken by surprise on this financing workshop...was not told about it, a normal occurrence. He suggested that the city's message on the bond or its short-coming, if you will, was the message itself. Mayor Triolo wants suggestions from us on how to tax ourselves for God knows how many years so they can turn it all around and say, "This is what the public suggested." After the election, she blamed the people for defeating the bond--it brought their money grab to a screeching halt. She can't understand why there is a "trust" issue with elected politicians especially on a local level. Well, just consider their actions. And does anyone remember Tony Masilotti, Jim Exline and Mary McCarty?

Corruption starts at the local level because this is where a vast percentage of politicians begin their careers. Not only does it involve politicians, but staff has been known to get into the corruption act. We here in Palm Beach County now have an Inspector General which is funded by the taxpayers. The voters said it was a vital position to ensure the integrity of our system. The sense of power that drives politicians galls us all even in the prosperous times but now this commission wants to bring it all back again by taxing the people for roads that won't last as long as the tab for it all.

It just never ends and it's never a surprise when it happens. If there is any surprise at all it is that they are allowed to stay in office.

OMG, not again? The vote was close but they still lost. Hasn't sunk in. They believe that they can spend another $50 thous and ram it down the throats of the people. Disgusting.

You left out Warren Newell and his thousands of dollars of free boat storage and Ray Liberti and his $50,000 cash in leather shaving kit for a vote to approve a massage parlor in WPB.

Does anyone remember the $800,000 each Lake Worth Commissioner put into the Bond for themselves?

Our Commission is only trying to keep Palm Beach County worthy of its name of "Corruption County"

Let's vote unelected Commissioner Szerdi out in March for his strong support of this fortunately failed financial rape of us citizens.

When their heads come out of their azzes - it will be the pop heard round the world...

$3.2 Million or $800,000.00 to each Commissioner to 'play with'?

We did already THIS

"Bring YOUR ideas and questions about financing options available in order to improve our roads, water & sewer services, drainage systems, and sidewalks. Or you may send your ideas & questions to LW2020@lakeworth.org"

We didn't see any of OUR suggestions added or even addressed. Oh - yes - they were addressed - our figures from the Finance Director that QUIT after 5.5 months were called BS - Basically we were called liars by too many on the dais and even Facebook had 'fun' with it!

PLUS the Mayor's "CLUELESS" video (after the vote failed) on 'shut up sit down and take it w/a smile' was way over the top for a rep but quite fitting a QUEEN!

She interrupts so much on the 'un-chosen' public speakers 2 minutes; we might as well hand in blank comment cards and let her speak for us.

UGH!

We already voted on this. We told you -NO !!! Now City Hall wants us to tell them how we want to be screwed ? Hello?
And who in the hell decided on the Jan 27th workshop ? When was this disused? Certainly not in a PUBLIC MEETING as an agenda item WE COULD HAVE COMMENTED ON !!!!! STOP ACTING OUT OF THE SUNSHINE !!! Katie Mcgiveron

And more about last nights meeting: After having only one City Commission meeting in December- THERE was almost nothing on the agenda. No new biz, no old biz. Just presentations and ten items on the consent agenda. And Mayor Triolo, keep your damned mouth SHUT while a citizen is speaking to you . We have two minutes. Don't interrupt. You told me to address my comments to the chair. Who in the holy hell did you think I was up there talking to? Would you feel better if I sat on your lap and whispered into your damn ear ? Perhaps bowed my head as I spoke in front of her highness? Again, I am your boss. When it's my turn to speak, sit there and shut the hell up.Katie Mcgiveron

Agree with this, not to mention that Szerdi gave away the resident beach parking to snowbirds from Canada and up north, so stupid. Now local year-round residents can't find parking often times. Vote him out!

He came uninvited to the TRNA meeting this past Monday night and spoke although not even on the agenda, looking for votes for sure, desperate to stay in power, a real politician, you can always see what their real motive is. Not impressed with his actions and won't vote for him!

Maybe TRNA should take a page out of ROLO neighborhood assoc. book- No Commissioner is allowed to speak at the ROLO meeting unless they have been invited to do so. Candidates are not allowed to speak .Period. They may hand out their material before or after the meeting and speak to people outside of the bldg.Candidates and Commissioners may attend the meeting but again,no speaking.

All I remember hearing previously about the bond referendum was "you didn't listen to us, the people." Now there are meetings being scheduled for the public/residents to tell our elected officials what the public wants and how the public wants it done. But that doesn't seem to satisfy a lot of the commenters on this blog. What exactly do you want?

I can only speak for myself--We told you what we wanted in the election booth.
