Not in the cards for Lake Worth

Comment Up

This particular blog got sidelined last month for other news events but I wanted to mention that Lake Worth will not be a part of the Rural Areas of Opportunity Program's $9 million going into road improvements. We are not considered "rural" but only poor.  Perhaps we won't be a part of DOT’s Small County Outreach Program's five-year plan to invest nearly $41 billion into our state’s transportation system either.

Governor Scott said, “Investing in our roads is a top priority because it will help our state continue to be a global tourist and business destination. Florida has created over 679,000 private-sector jobs in just under four years and we will continue to work every day to create even more opportunities in our state.”

According to Sunshine State News, the funds will be used across the state. Palm Beach County is getting a large share, with more than $1.4 million going to South Bay, $1.375 headed to Pahokee and more than $1 million penciled in for Belle Glade for road repair.

I am sure if the city works as hard as it has on 14 provisional ballots or having John Prince Park bulldozed to allow commercialization of our county park for national league baseball corporations to make tons of money, then perhaps we might get a morsel of some money, somewhere, for our lousy infrastructure...excluding the new road it is building at the POC or the one they are going to build at 7th Avenue South to accommodate a developer.

Don't we pay lobbyists 5,000 a month to represent Lake Worth? Maybe we better fire the lobbyist and put that 5,000 towards fixing our roads!

Great point--I had forgotten about that one! We're getting a lot of bang for our buck.

I'm mad about the paving of 7th south, gonna need to find a new place to dump stuff.

Ever think about dumping it in your garbage dumpster or taking it the solid Waste authority on Lantana Rd? Is that just too boring to consider?

Just wish they would pave every dirt road in this city! The city looks like hell with all these dirt roads and adds so much dust in our city too, will it ever happen? They were supposed to pave 8th and 9th Ave north between like F and C streets with money allocated for that work, but then they must of used it all to redo roads up farther north on Crestwood, 14th and 15th north, so much for that. Something McVoy did to switch funding around.

Will we ever get these dirt roads in this city paved and cleaned up?

Not every road has to be paved. Owners on those streets don't necessarily want them paved. They are so hard that there is no dust. McVoy reaches out to the people surrounding the areas and actually asks them questions. Novel, right?
So, why is it such a burning campaign issue for you? Reach out to the people, something this city did NOT do when deciding on 7th Avenue South.

McVoy does no such thing. He does absolutely nothing!

Well, he wants to honor the votes cast by the electorate and not keep pushing things down the throats of the people like this commission constantly does. He listened to the folks who came out who lived on 7th Avenue South. It's not fun being a minority sitting on the dais. Just ask Scott. :)
McVoy is honest and ethical. I can't say that enough.

I wish Maxwell,Triolo and Amaroso did nothing. Lake Worth would be much better off and I wouldn't have to worry about being taxed out of my house .
