Our Leaders - Lake Worth

Comment Up
Thanks for being different
SURPRISE!
Peep, peep, Tax increase and Budget approved.
Vote: 4/1, Commissioner Maxwell dissenting

Several new positions were approved-- a sustainability manager, an internal auditor, a marketing manager, an economic development specialist and an events coordinator although the City Manager said "We have no new positions." Commissioner McVoy compared the Budget to us paying for groceries. Maxwell says that "Government likes to spend money. We have discovered a new source of revenue to spend more money." It looks like the 1.3 mils stays in the budget and we are all just assessed more. NO one even suggested that the millage be reduced while I was there. So, what was that comparison all about last week?

Grab the cash and pass the ammunition--we must pay for services--everyone must pay for services they receive--everything must be fair. The piggy bank is now down to zero. It ALL disappeared over the last few years! All cash reserves have been spent! It's sort of like the missing beach fund and the $4 million from the Utility. Employees from the Utility were in the conference room waiting, just in case. The black hole was never discussed other than the normal BS Budget so called "reductions." Stanton now wants to build up the Reserve Fund once again for a "rainy day." Instead of punishing the residents, what about an investigation and I don't mean one from an internal auditor. No wonder City Hall is in lockdown and all the photographs that used to be on the walls have disappeared.

The Commission gave all sorts of kudos to Comite de Defensa del Barrio for cleaning up some streets. This is a group against ALL anti-illegal immigration groups, people such as myself and Arizona 1070 believing that we are all racists. It was suggested that property values have fallen because people don't take care of them. Well, commissioners, my neighborhood is pristine perfect and my condo fell 17.5% in value. We, out here, pick up any trash thrown by others onto our property and we spend a lot of money to ensure that our property is maintained.

It was just another love fest between the commission and staff. We had already heard 70 hours plus of propagandized budget workshop meetings. Once again, the public was blamed suggesting that we did not have an interest in the way they spent our money as it was said only one person showed up for those meetings. Well, I was there for every single one of them, walking out on all of them, other than the wrap up meeting. We are invisible to City Hall and we bloggers do lie. Get that?

SOME HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Over $500,000 in expenditures on Consent Agenda was passed 5/0
  • Commissioner McVoy nominated Dena McCracken to the Centennial Celebration Committee 5/0 This is an excellent choice.
  • Capital Improvement Program for 2012/2016 (5 year plan) approved of $58,264,983 passed 4/1 Maxwell dissenting. This is totally unacceptable to have budgeted over $25 million to spend this year.
  • Shuffleboard Courts: Mulvehill wants a charette and believes demolition was to be stopped. No clear plan for courts and Maxwell, McVoy and Golden want a plan. Golden says that there will never be tournament play there again. Kroll says that the electrical has already been totally stripped. He is efficient. Kroll says to refurbish courts is really expensive and that we had a charette around 3 years ago on what people wanted for that space. I don't remember that, Mr. Kroll and I do not have dementia yet. $12,000 to demolish he says. Mulvehill suggests a splash park. Thanks Commissioner. Perhaps I will find my second childhood again. Motion was made to have a charette in 60 to 90 days and get public comment. I hope that it is 90 days when perhaps the snowbirds who play shuffleboard will be back and have a chance to comment. We always have to prove that shuffleboard courts for the seniors and our history is worthy. Passed on a 5/0 vote.
  • New Business expenditures approved for over $2.8 million that included health care for $2,118,779 and public risk insurance and utility property insurance for $663,501. The biggest expense we have besides public safety, is employees. It is a wonder that anything is left over to run this city. Seriously.
  • Fees were raised on Use and Occupancy for rental property...up, up. Public hearing on 9-20, passes 5/0 (Just another fee that has been raised in our city...how many IS that now?)
  • McVoy still wants wind turbines at the beach even though he has been alerted to the folly of wind turbines and wind generation in general. The Commission approves of a grant not to exceed $110,000 for an agreement to develop and implement an Energy Assurance Plan to DC Group of S. Florida...just another group coming here grabbing the cash. We spend money like we have it. Passes 5/0
  • Approved the demolition of 722 S. Lakeside Drive and 1809 N.Dixie Hwy. Fees will be charged to the property owners. How laughable is that. You can charge to the moon comes home but Lake Worth taxpayers are the ones picking up the tab. Passes 5/0
The Commission has no idea what they just did. The City Manager does. And Commissioner Scott Maxwell got the hell out of town today.

Stanton has turned off the audio in the hallways.Along with the new frosted windows that block anyone from seeing into the Commission room,is anyone surprised by this? When I demanded that it be fixed Joe Kroll seemed unconcerned and stated that the audio "had been broken for a month".HOW ABOUT FIXING SOMETHING,JOE!!!!!Many times there are not enough spaces inside the Commission meeting room and people need to listen from the hall. Stanto continues to lock down "her" hose, and the people are not invited!

This commission has sealed their fates once and for all....The pillaging of the public has begun and the CM is the one leading the group instead of this commission leading for the people. As one public comment stated...The Iceberg is hear that the ship just ran into it. So the only way to save the ship is to pillage its crew (The citizens)

How ironic would the word Anarchist be at this moment...Commissioner McVoy, Really??? Groceries? I find that to be the worst analogy I have ever heard....You might as well said that the cost of Prostitutes are going up because of the increase cost of their services

Commissioner Mulvehill, A splash park? I thought we were trying to be a "Green" city! What a major waste of the Cities water supply to even suggest such a thing...What are we? West Palm Beach? and you also voted along with Commissioner Golden to basically RAPE the people, disregard our seniors and hold every homeowner in Lake Worth Hostage by the pockets.

And then you all turn around and spend more money that is not absolutely needed.

Voting Citizens of Lake Worth! November is coming and you need to make the RIGHT decisions at the polls. We have GOOD people for a change running for Mayor and I don't mean the current one.

Waterman....When you are mayor, taking the heat is part of the job and your sighs and tone of voice during public comment was truly a reflection of how you could care less about what the public has to say.

The way some of you have behaved not only on the Dias but in public and lack of support for the people and the Neighborhoods that really want to improve their surroundings is a clear indicator that you should not be on that Dias.

Best of wishes to you all but please go back to being private citizens after the elections.

Rachel and Joanne-the "other side " does not have to hand out any of their ususal over the top literature against you. You two have shot yourselves in the foot. And Rachel,as for the Trolly-don't bother. it's been five years since Nadine Burns took the seniors Trolly away. They have made other arrangements.

Another expense out of our pockets to make living in Lake Worth even more unbearable. I can't make my bills now, already have to make choices on what to spend on and what not and upside down on my condo...I'm trapped just like so many more of you and now the leadership just like in a communist country are taking even more. What next? No electricity, rationed food? I'm so depressed about living here anymore. They spoke about services but we are now going to pay more for less.

I wish I could close my eyes and wake up and its all a bad dream.

Voters of Lake Worth show this Commission and the City Manager that you have had enough. They repeated said how the 7% increase in the millage was less the $10 on a home with a taxable vaule of $100,000. what was omitted was the special assessments that are nothing but taxes in disquise. Ten dollars plus one assessment of $60 for fire pensions is a %70 dollar increase.

They think we are all idiots and cannot add 1+1 to get 2. Well, the Commission and the City Manager are WRONG! The voters and property owners can add and we see all the bad math coming out of City Hall.

The PBPost this morning said that it was an increase of $9.95 a MONTH on a home of $150,000. Also, don't forget, Solid Waste special assessment just went up $42 a year. Coupled with all the other tax increases, it is disgusting.

Lynn, how about the new leader on the Community Relations Board? He wants to get Probable Cause Affidavits from PBSO whenever someone complains to him about their treatment by PBSO.

This is not the role of the CRB and the Commission needs to stop this behavior before it goes any further. Mr. Tsolkas was chosen for the CRB by Golden, McVoy, and Mulvehill over two more qualified applicants. This is just politics at its finest in LW.

absolutamente repugnante.
Might as well start speaking it. I was totally offended by his mission here for the Board. Where are the rights of Americans these days? We get the right to be special assessed while illegals (CRIMINALS) cry about being abused. You have to wonder what in the hell is the world coming to. I do like Panagioti for his environmental stands--not going to jail, however. I just don't like Socialists.

I hate to say that I told you so, but Waterman is turning out exactly as her own words said she would. These people have almost left Socialism and gone all the way over to Marxism.

OK lets lighten the mood...

Two Commissioners were out helping in the community. One was digging a whole and the other was filling it back up.

A reasonable and concerned resident was watching this and after about 15 minutes finally went over to the two commissioners and asked. "What are you doing? I'm watching you dig a whole and you come afterwards and fill it back up! What Gives?"

The first commissioner explained that the third commissioner who was supposed to be planting the trees was off buying groceries.

All in fun folks all in fun.
