Marco

Marco Rubio

Florida's own Marco Rubio is now on the short-list as the Republican nominee for Vice President.

Marco is really the American Dream story. He is the son of Cuban immigrants who became the Speaker of the Florida House and now is a U.S. Senator. He's got it all going for himself: looks, intelligence and he's Hispanic.

There is a lot of controversy at the moment on whether he could hold the office of Vice President. In order to be the President you must be a natural born citizen with both parents Citizens of the United States of America at the time of your birth. His father was not yet a citizen when Marco was born.

The 12th Amendment says, “But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.”

Rubio will not enforce any laws that deal with keeping illegal aliens out of our state and country. Marco says all the right things to sound like a conservative, but he has lived near the dung heap just a little TOO LONG. I won't be voting for any ticket with him on it.

What Constitution did you read where it states anything about the parents of the child? As long as Rubio was born in a state of the US then he's a natural born citizen. We'd be fools to elect him, but he's certainly legal to be on the ballot as either.

Go read the constitution again, Lynn. And not Jerome Corsey's edited version.

Thank you. I believe that you are 100% correct on this issue.

Aht Wikipedia says:
The Constitution does not define the phrase natural-born citizen, and various opinions have been offered over time regarding its precise meaning. There is general agreement that the term encompasses, as a minimum, anyone born on U.S. soil to U.S. citizen parents. Most scholars and politicians currently agree that the term includes those born on U.S. soil, as well as those born to U.S. citizens parents regardless of place of birth.

The natural-born-citizen clause has been mentioned in passing in several decisions of the United States Supreme Court and lower courts, but the Supreme Court has never directly addressed the question of a specific presidential or vice-presidential candidate's eligibility as a natural-born citizen. Although numerous claims have been put forth that the current president, Barack Obama, is not a natural-born citizen, the relevant courts have so far dismissed all lawsuits brought over this question.
