I really believe in being energy independent. Who wants the Mid-East controlling prices on virtually everything that we buy? It is an area with constant unrest, uprisings and rebellion, literally an "oilquake" waiting to happen. We must have affordable petroleum. Like an addict, however, we must reduce our reliance on oil and break our $500 billion-a-year addiction and have other affordable choices for fuel.
It has been said that there is enough oil in the Gulf of Mexico to sustain the US for the next 50 years at current usage levels. The trouble is that the oil is in VERY DEEP water. This is a political nightmare after the BP disaster. Sarah Palin wants to "drill baby drill." However, when I see a video like this, it is shocking. Greed supersedes all else and it rules all over the world.
We need to stop raiding our treasury for other people's wars and other countries problems and invest in our own country's future. Reduce the national debt and stop running our country on credit. Give businesses huge tax breaks to invest in this country and limit any outsourcing of jobs and manufacturing plants. Stop allowing our enemies to get the upper hand. End this imbalance of trade and turn it in the other direction. We are building up the economies of the world to the detriment of ours. Unions, get smart. (I always like to throw that one in there for Mary Lindsey):)

Watching Meet the Press this morning there were some very good observations about the 5 pillars that our country thrived on for centuries and how we are a nation have allowed those to weaken.
They talked about exactly what you have stated in this post and I agree 100% with is we need to focus back on our country and quit the nonsense of promoting the world! The World and other nations are not only getting but passing us in the fast lane in doing it....
Get Back to fundamentals America and aim higher for our country so that we can once again...get in the game!
Side note on energy is there are alternatives and new technology and WE (Amercia) should be leading this however we are loosing out to China and India. Pull the Oil Drip out of your arms Washington (all who have stock in the Oil businesses) and Lead the world in new technology
