Mid-County Senior Center

Comment Up
Stopped by this facility yesterday, my first time there. There are a lot of services and activities for Seniors:

Services--Information and referral, nutrition, outreach, educational forums, volunteer opportunities and Veterans assistance.

Medical Screenings--Blood pressure checks, flu shots, preventive lectures, Serving health insurance needs of Elders (SHINE).

Activities--ball room dance, bingo, Bridge, quilting, crafts, billiards, computer classes, art, exercise, French, Spanish, creative writing, parties.

I went there to sign up and pay for the next class on defensive driving that is offered monthly. This will reduce my insurance rate by $38.50 a year for 3 years. As I am not an AARP member, the class cost $14. It will be an all day deal in June and you have to pack a lunch. Sounds dreadful.

I love this place. I volunteer here one day a week for a few hours, have been for many years, 15 years, altogether for the Division of Senior Services. They offer so many wonderful options/activities for seniors along with lunch or dinner. We are lucky our county does so much for seniors here, we are blessed.

This is the rathole that Clemens, Vespo and Lowe dumped the seniors into when they kicked them out of that palace they used to be in on Dixie highway right?
You beat that one like a drum!

This is the place that the County built for senior citizens in Mid-County.

Yes, commissioners kicked out the seniors here in our city to give the building to Compass at a low rent per year. Now we have even given them a loan. Seniors were dumped and many now don't have the transportation to get out to the new one.

I am against the disenfranchising of the Seniors in Lake Worth which comprise about 14% of the population here. Seniors are among some of the poorest of our residents. Many of them walked to the Senior Center (now Compass) where they enjoyed many activities and even a low cost lunch. It was their one way to stay connected.

Thanks for asking about it.
