Lake Worth - The "Code of Silence" was broken

Comment Up

See the video at channel 5 regarding the "confidential" talks with developers about Lake Worth beach.

If the city dares to turn over our beach in a public/private partnership, there must be a vote of the people. This should never be decided on a simple majority. This is where we need the supermajority vote that lost by 119 votes several years back because of the developer crowd in control then.  And Vice Mayor Maxwell, we are sick and tired of you complaining (using your words) about our beach and every other asset we own because YOU can't instruct the city manager to do what's necessary to maintain it and make it profitable.

When viewing this video, it is proof positive that all of the facts never are brought to light. The woman who is first interviewed, Brenda Shutler (SP), must be a fairly new resident and knows nothing about the history of our beach. Our casino has had restaurants and merchants since the beginning--nothing new, Brenda. City Manager Bornstein failed to tell WPTV that the money was borrowed from ourselves. Confidential meetings behind closed doors is a disgrace.

It was YOU, Vice Mayor, who voted over the past several years NOT to pay the city back on the principal on the monies we borrowed from ourselves. But you, all of you, can go to Tallahassee to wine and dine over days on the taxpayer dime when we pay a lobbyist $2,000 a month plus expenses to work on issues on behalf of the city.

The city has an events coordinator. They have all sorts of staff.  Hire the right people who can do this job. Find an aggressive Realtor for the upstairs space or finish it off and expand the ballroom that is rented out and making money. Stop listening to the naysayers. And STOP the free lunch while you're at it.

It's no wonder that many people who live in this City do not trust you and we certainly don't trust you with our beach, our golf course or any asset or taxpayer money grabs. We kicked a developer off of our beach for non-performance and you ended up paying him $1.6 million when he sued us.  This is the same mindset in power today that was in charge back then that cost our city millions.

This is just so unbelievably corrupt, I can't believe it. Szerdi has the balls to be upset that the public got to know what how their beach is going to be given away!!!! Who in the hell is the woman in the video????

This is so misleading. McVoy knew that proposals were submitted, and appointed Amoroso to the staff team that's going through them. Hudson Holdings was stupid to mention it as if it was an approved project. Anything worth a second look will come to a public meeting. It's a normal business procedure that helps narrow down the options. And they are not selling or giving away the beach. They are trying to fill the empty second floor, and update the pool. Which they should be doing...

Your statement is WRONG.
At the October 7th meeting, the commission appointed Andy Amoroso to the evaluation committee on the ITN. McVoy wanted the appointment as he has been directly involved in our beach over years. The vote was 4/0--Triolo was absent. We have NO idea what the CM said about this to McVoy as he is kept out of the loop on a regular basis.
It was NOT, AND IS not AN APPROVED PROJECT. It was suggested by staff or perhaps someone on this commission who believes we can't take care of anything and we need to get rid of it.
A long-term lease by anyone, not just Hudson Holdings who is connected with JOHN SZERDI, is against what this city wants. We don't want to give up control of our most important asset.

I would blame the City Manager and Attorney for not defending the lawsuit and not bringing out all the facts about Greater Bay,

I wrote 'as if it was'. Also, yes it was unanimous that Andy was voted liaison. McVoy voted for him.

McVoy is an astute guy. The deck was stacked against him and he voted along with the rest...4/0.

What just in heck are you talking about? Are you agreeing that the city is not transparent? That it covers up facts from the residents? You think that's ok? Did you recently escape from 45th Street?

I'm sane, what about you? said...

Anon 6:41 sounds like you are about to have a nervous breakdown. What is going on? What kind of a rant is that? Lynn's question is good. Did you just get released from the nut ward at JFK?
