Support Maier on Casino proposal
I commend [Commissioner] Ryan Maier for
adding the “Cancellation of the Invitation to Negotiate (ITN)” item to
the Lake Worth City Commission agenda at his first meeting. The
discussion and vote that took place was timely.
I support Maier’s
proposal to cancel the ITN due to the inclusion of the word “expand” in
the contract. Adding that one word mixes need with want.
Maintaining
and leasing the vacant second-floor Casino space is a need; however,
adding commercial space to the beach complex is a desire.
I hope the commission will go back to the drawing board so that the city can focus on renting the vacant Casino space.

Adding more commercial space to our Casino complex is a DESIRE by only Hudson Holdings or perhaps this majority commission or former commissioner Szerdi. No one wants anything there to be on a long-term lease, another fools' paradise deja vu Greater Bay
Stowe came to my house last year, fear mongering lair!
How strange the Richard Stowe would come out supporting anything Ryan Maier proposes. Wasn't he his campaign manager?
While I would not initially support any new building on the beach property, I really appreciate the commission thinking in big picture terms about getting ideas on how the complex can be improved.
Take Benny's on the Beach for example. Yesterday we tried to have lunch there. We waited for 30 minutes to get a seat. Once seated, we waited another 30 minutes with having only water brought to us. We ended up leaving without ordering.
Compare that with how it was with the previous owners. The new owners have expanded the restaurant and changed the menu. Yesterday it was hopping. It took different ideas to take it from where it was o where you now can't even get a seat on a Sunday afternoon.
So if someone out there came up with a huge idea that incorporated one tenant leasing the top floor and coming up with ideas to incorporate the pool with possibly a tiki bar or restaurant for evening use.
If the idea sucks, we say no.
Awh gee, did Stowe knock on your door John Szerdi by mistake?
I'm a big fan of Benny's (new and old) but I'm not sure the City's approval of dinner hours for Benny's benefited anyone except the owner of Benny's.
They are making more money, kudos to them, but they are not paying the City more money. If anything I would argue that the City's agreement with Benny's shows poor management of City assets not better management since we are not getting a cut of those additional revenues. I guess you could argue that Benny's dinner service increase parking fees.
Again, it was this commission's lease to them...$20,000 a month rent is not hay.
You think Benny' got a deal on their rent, what do you think about the lease at the Golf Course $3000.00 a month and the city pay's all the utilities.... Think about it the gas, and electric have to be More than that a month. When I worked in a Restaraunt in Manalapan the gas was almost 4K a month and that was 10 years ago. Something else the residents of Lake Worth are subsidizing with are Tax Dollars.
I'm not sure about the Golf Course since its a City amenity, but all the lease $1 leases are another issue.
