Lake Worth Beach Sanctuary City for all LGBTQIA+

Lake Worth Beach becomes Florida's first sanctuary city for LGBTQ+ community

(CBS12) — On Tuesday night, the City Commission of Lake Worth Beach declared the city a sanctuary city for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families.

“Lake Worth Beach is a vibrant and diverse city with a proud history of embracing the gay community,” said Mayor Betty Resch. “Today we continue that tradition by ensuring our city remains a welcoming place for LGBTQ+ people.”

According to the city, the resolution says “the City of Lake Worth Beach shall now and forever be considered a safe place, a sanctuary, a welcoming and supportive city for LGBTQIA+ individuals and their families to live in peace and comfort” and that “the City Commission of Lake Worth Beach firmly states its commitment to protecting human rights for all individuals and believes that access to healthcare, education and peaceful enjoyment of their lives are fundamental rights to all people in the City.”

This is very important to liberals. Gays have always been welcomed here with zero discrimination so this is just indulging a segment of our society and the commission attempting to prove how diverse they are. It is an unnecessary resolution but it "feels good."

It does feel good. I have nothing against feeling good. I also have nothing against making sure that all folks feel welcome and safe in a state that isn't always welcoming and safe for all folks.

Bravo, Lake Worth. There's a reason why I've lived here for 50 years.

HUH? I am a gay man, and have felt safe in Lake Worth. I dont think we need a mayor to draw extra attention to us. The more attention we get, the more we have opportunity for negative attention. Let us just blend in with EVERYONE else. Conservatives treat gays as fine as they treat others. Equal rights, not special rights!

@6:16...sorry you feel that way, anonymous.
Quoting Rand Hoch...a Democrat. Doesn't do anything for me neither does your crack about "the people in Tallahassee."

Look, this is a ridiculous resolution. That's all I have to say about it.

Does this commission have anything better to do? Knock it off. No one cares about what you are doing in your bedroom...NOONE
show me the discrimination you have felt by residents here in LWB. That is such hogwash.

No discrimination in lake worth anyways.

I can go into Mad Hatter, walk out, and see people on the sidewalk. NOTHING negative ever happened.

A fat, old, gay guy walking or biking through all neighborhoods. NOTHING negative ever happened.

Make an issue about something else Betty. Something productive.

6:16 - incidents?

Just because democrats use general negative statements with no factual bases, doesn't mean anyone else believes your statements.

LW used to be a gay haven, most gays have moved out of the city to Wilton Manor or the country, like Venus.

Venus?

Well, Lake Worth is now number one at something!
I think they are also number one at attracting illegals. And our White population is now at 38.1% not including White Hispanics.
But they love diversity. LOVE it.
Poverty is around 24% and no one I run into speaks English around here.
But keep it up and concentrate on non-important things.
Where is our pool?
Where is the Gulfstream Hotel?
And you raised water rates. Lovely.

Vote this commission out. They lied.
Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a law prohibiting a school from mandating students or teachers use preferred pronouns not based on biological sex.

“We’re not doing the pronoun olympics in Florida. It’s not happening here,” DeSantis had said.

DeSantis also signed a bill requiring restrooms and changing facilities in K-12 schools be separated based on biological sex at birth. Republicans said the measure was in an effort to protect women in bathrooms.

Recently, the Florida legislature passed a bill to ban sex reassignment surgeries and medications for minors, which DeSantis ultimately signed.
