Palm Beach Post endorses Lake Worth Incumbents

Comment Up

The Palm Beach Post said that Lake Worth has too many problems: "high poverty and unemployment, a low tax base, too little investment, too much crime and far too many potholes."

But in spite of these problems after nearly 5 and 7 years of being in office, the Post believes that Lake Worth's leadership has kept its eye on the ball by fixing residential streets, sidewalks and the pipes below them, that they have encouraged investment, reduced crime and even mentioned the historic Gulfstream Hotel.

Where has the Palm Beach Post been? Are they out of their minds?

The reason why they are running with opposition this year is because under their leadership, nothing has been achieved. All of the things that the Post cites are worse than ever with massive direction of taxpayer money to attract development at the Park of Commerce as an example when the rest of the city crumbles. Because Triolo has "broad knowledge of the issues" is not reason for endorsement. Everything in Lake Worth is worse under this leadership.

Maxwell's claim to fame is the POC as well as lowering electric rates to the point of robbing reserves by millions to stay even. This is bad business and bad for the city but it might be a sales pitch for prospective developers.

Andy Amoroso wants to "move the city forward," a slogan that is old and tired. With him, it is mostly about the downtown businesses.

No one ever explains what that means by "moving the city forward." Forward to what? We all know that everything is worse than it has ever been with incumbents who only listen to their own voices.

It's good to see the Post got this one correct. While its good to have the alternative views discussed and debated this truly is the right choice for right now. I hope that the challengers will actually become more involved in the City and can make a better informed run the next election cycle. This time we need to keep these incumbents. Fire away.

I would bet any amount of money on it that this rat pack lobbied the Post. Probably got the CM involved as well. Corruption at its finest from these egomaniacs who don't care about the people, only self-serving interests.

I'm glad the Palm Beach Post is endorsing the re-election of Mayor Pam Triolo, Commissioner Scott Maxwell and especially Commissioner Andy Amoroso.

I too am hopeful that the energy ALL the challengers have presented as well as their supporters can pour into the vast needs and challenges this city has. I believe with more civic involvement, all citizens, but especially those who want to run for political office, our city wins. Vast knowledge about the actual operations of the numerous departments is gained by those who join out volunteer advisory boards, as well as those who become actively involved in their neighborhood associations.

We all love Lake Worth, let's quit the bashing and the personal attacks.

Now it's the Palm Beach Post that is corrupt?

Anonymous at 7:10, I bet you are right! Plus I heard from someone that said someone else told them that all three incumbents actually own part of the PB Post!! ANd it was purchased through a shell corp. that was set up by Hudson Holdings! And further, not only is the City Manager an indentured slave to these three horrible people that call themselves... incumbents (yuck) but the CM is also secretly a real estate agent making back room deals that will enrich not only him but EVERY SINGLE campaign contributor to these HARRIBLE People! AND I also heard that every single person that contributed to these THREE HARRIBLE people are actually successful greedy local businesses that actually think they have a right to be successful!!! WTF??? What can we do to stop this madness????

Businesses do not have rights - people do.
We have a representative gov for the people
not the money - look what type of ads pay to
keep the paper afloat (most papers are dying).

Thanks for screwing your readers over Palm Beach Post!

Thanks Palm Beach Post! I'm gonna subscribe today!

The Post is really out of touch with what is happening in Lake Worth. Add to that - their ability to attract advertisers is tied in with not pissing off developers too much, even though they see like the rest of us what greedy developers have done to this beautiful state. Fortunately I do not think many people read the Post anymore. So I do not think this will make a difference. What almost everyone in Lake Worth knows is this: The trio is not going to survive next week.

If the shoe were on the other foot, you'd have a whole different perspective of how valuable the Palm Beach Post's view is. It is hard for either side to face that on balance, and based on their interview of the candidates, the Post must pick winners and losers. I happen to agree with them this time. Next time?

Wow. Did the Post forget a statement that Maxwell made in front of Channel 12. "I don't read the Post". he said it twice. Stated he only read the Lake Worth Herald. I confronted Kevin from the post and told him I thought he was biased and he denied it. I even have his email on that one. Where is any thing in the Post with regards to what the opponents state that needs to be done. I can't now add the post to my list of "save money by not doing this" buying the Post, never again. If people would just open their eyes in Lake Worth, you will see how these three "really care about" you. NOT.

The Post got this one right. I have had many issues with Scott, Andy and Pam but when I look at the folks running against them I cannot give them my vote. Ryan Hartman lives on $4000 a year in a rented place he moved to a few years ago. He has no interest in seeing this city move forward, never attended commission meetings, served on a board or been actively involved in helping our city. The candidates running for mayor are a mess. One could not even afford to pay the filing fee and had no time to attend neighborhood association debates. If you want to be mayor of my city you need to have the time and money to give up your personal business interests and spend the time working here. Finally none of the candidates has given us one new idea, one new plan to fix anything. It's all talk and no action. Sorry lynn but none of these new people on the scene even make the cut in my opinion to run this city.

The Post is clueless. A lot of lobbying went on behind the scenes in support of the developer backed group. There is much to lose for them if they are not elected again. Power corrupts.

John @10:09
Ok, I have allowed all the campaigning for incumbents that I am going to allow on this site.
This is an advocacy site and I do not advocate for your incumbents--not one little bit. Stay on your own social media page to your heart's content. Just do not use my blog for it.

As far as your comments go, of course I disagree with you and have written extensively as to why.

Diane did not pay the full filing fee, not because she couldn't but it was out of principal. Perhaps it was not the best choice in retrospect. Diane was in the hospital for one week and then in rehab for two weeks during the time of the NA forums. She is also under a contract to teach on Monday nights. So cut some slack. It was not from a lack of interest that she did not appear.

What are the incumbents solutions to improve this city?
1. pour $20 mil into the POC
2. Allow Hudson Holdings to build higher than the Charter amendment allows?
3. Eventually give them a lease on our beach?
4. Potholes are growing
5. Crime is rampant
6. slum and blight is all over the place
7. give away more surplus property to the CRA to build more affordable housing?

You tell me.

Anonymous said...

Maxwell, stop stealing signs off of private property.

Ernest Y said...

@john Rinaldi. Are you able to create independent thoughts or does your mind just unflinchingly accept what others tell you?

1. The days of property owning, white, males being the only people who can vote ended quite a while ago. Who cares if someone running for office rents? I mean, beside you

2. This city is broke and yet the incumbents spend like drunk sailors. Ryan Hartman knows how to stretch $4000 per year to get all of his basic needs met. That's pretty impressive if you ask me. I don't hear him complaining about how broke he is or making excuses as to why he can't get things done.

3. I've read on numerous blogs that Ryan Hartman has caused problems at City Commission meetings by bringing his friends and "threatening" the city with lawsuits, yet you say he's never attended meetings? Hmmm, someone's lying...

4. What do you consider "helping our city?" True, Ryan hasn't had secret meetings or taken thousands of dollars from developers to give away our beach. Just because he doesn't fit your definition of someone who helps our city, doesn't mean he doesn't do things. Just because he doesn't feel the need to brag about what he does, doesn't mean he just sits at home and argues with people on blogs like we do.

5. Please tell me the incumbent's plan to fix the roads? To solve crime? To lower utility bills? To attract new business?

It's a new day in Lake Worth; people see through your scare tactics John.

To Anon at 7:10 (PAM) the only one slinging mud and publishing trash and inundating the people of Lake Worth with a pile of BS is the LO TRIO. Diane has more integrity than all of you put together. I guess she should have signed herself out of the hospital to attend the functions YOU ALL felt she needed to attend. On oxygen at home and rehabilitating should also be thrown aside so she could attend these functions. You are all the most despicable trio I have ever heard or seen. At least she didn't lobby developers, child molesters, perverts, and other scum to support her campaign. She hasn't lied about anything and can support every bit of what she says about all of you. By the way, do we really have to see you on a billboard. Stop with the lies and slandering. Just because you have the press in you Pay to Play pocket doesn't mean we believe your lies.

John Rinaldi said...

You just told me I am not allowed to give my views on your blog and than ask me for an opinion. I am not politicking. I have not given a nickle to any candidate. Just telling folks how I see this election. I can't vote for these new guys because they have no history of any service or interest in our city. It's really hard to get good qualified people to run and this group just doesn't cut it for me.

Lynn Anderson said...

John, I understand that you have a very big interest in our city being developed because you own a B&B. It's all about the money.

You live in South Palm Beach but your voting registration is still here in Lake worth.

Lake Worth politics is much more fun.

No one EVER HAD A HISTORY until they ran for office.
Did Maxwell?
Did Triolo? Did anyone EVER SEE HER ANYWHERE?

Anonymous said...

I can give you one good thing about the candidates. They have proven that they CANNOT BE BOUGHT.

Anonymous said...

So Lynn, I checked and Jihn has not given any money to any candidate.

Have you Lynn? yep, only to Ryan, Diane and Frank... Why did you leave out Gary? He's the one with the most Lake Worth experience.

Lynn Anderson said...

You're talking about the challengers I hope. :)

I gave a little to all 4 opponents.
Do you have a life?

Of course anyone who doesn't agree with Madame Blogger and her loyal follows is just evil and corrupt and money grabbing liars, cheats, thieves, sunshine violators, and so much more. If only everyone would follow the advice of the Constitution Lady our little city would be perfect.

Lynn Anderson said...

Some people actually can see through it all, anonymous @12:18. Sorry you have to be so sarcastic.
And if this city would start thinking about all of the people instead of some of the people, we would be much better off..."the city would be perfect." Maybe, but it's going to take a big change to save our city.

No real surprise that the Post would endorse the incumbents, they endorsed LW2020 too. The Post is generally pro developer and pro real estate agent, b/c they get a bulk of ad dollars. I'm not anti-Post and I'm not surprised by their endorsement.

I've voted and I voted against the incumbents. Although I voted for Andy in the past I think he has become a mere puppet of the trio. The big issues that are important to me are crime and blight/code. I've not been happy with any of them on these two issues. They are afraid of PBSO, are afraid to ask for accountability, afraid to provide direction to PBSO. Blight and code, they spent months rewriting the ordinances and yet the blight continues. Code enforcement continues to focus on grass height and ignores slums and serious health risk properties.

So far all I have seen accomplished by their "Grand Vision" of "Moving Forward" is swiss cheese for roads (except in College Park of course), increasing crime, repeated threats to our beach, increased drug use and used needles in parks, and increasing blight. I take that back, they have finally done one positive thing: they did, after a number of years, finally demolish the poster child for crack houses just around the corner from Scott. So let's see: as far as scoring points that would be about a half point to the people of lake worth for demolishing one crappy crack house; and about 500 points to developers to reign supreme and take over the city. Not a good deal since I'm not a developer. Why can't you guys stay in Delray and Miami?? Why do you have to take over every single town and government in the entire region?? When did it become impossible to have representative government in the sunshine that wasn't sold to the highest bidder and the largest back pocket??
As for the Post, don't they always vote for the money??

The Palm Beach Post is a nasty newspaper. I would never read or buy their garbage again. They are in bed with bad politicians, bashing good citizens and calling them liars and fabricators and supporting horrible elected officials here in Lake Worth for years. They are not a good newspaper nor do they have good judgement when it comes to endorsements. They are corrupt and love to sensationalize and hurt poor citizens, they will stop at nothing to get a sensationalized article in their paper, they do not care who they hurt allowing elected officials to call good people liars and fabricators. The Post can kiss my ass, I will never read, buy, or submit another editorial to them ever. They are bad news plain and simple.

Anonymous said...

Did the mayor write this editorial opinion?

Anonymous said...

John, it is because you are an elitist like most of the trio, so you support them. You are likely upset that the area where you have your business is not increasing much in value and are pissed about that. You want all this development like the trio and HH. So did you have any bites on selling your guest house yet as it was advertised in some local gay magazines/papers for 1.3Million? Good luck friend, hope pam and all can help you!

Anonymous said...

By the way, Lake Worth is losing its charm and now many gays are fed up with this blight and dump, so they are all moving to Wilton Manors and the Ft. Lauderdale area. I really don't blame them, it is cheaper there and nicer. The gay mecca of the southeast. You cannot beat it. Their newspaper down there, the Sun Sentinel is much better and more fair too.

Anonymous said...

Kevin Thompson from the Post is responsible for the Lake Worth Area. He has yet to get the facts straight, research for the correct information, actually listen to the residents of Lake Worth or get anything straight. He listens only to Triolo, Scott, and Amoroso. AND HE HANGS ON TO EVERY WORD THEY SAY AS IF IT WERE GOSPEL. Kevin, get your head out of their ass and check the facts. Only scandalous newspapers like the Enquirer print crap like you print. Yeah, you listen to people and then print exactly what the trio wants you to print. They have done nothing but lie and they are calling the residents of Lake Worth who can see through them liars and deplorable, despicable people. Look in a mirror and if the shoe fits wear it.

Diane didn't pay her filing fees "out of principal" what the heck does that mean?

If she decides she doesnt want to pay a bill she simply doesn't?

That doesn't seem fair. Please explain "not paying on principle".

Anonymous said...

Diane is a teacher and people who are informed, or have kids in school, are aware already that our teachers have to pony up lots of money not covered in the school budget. It can come out to $500 (per pupil), and this comes out of their own pockets. Things you would think would be covered as they are necessary to teach. Things like paper, paper towels, pens and pencils, teaching aides, there's a long list; everything we used in school when I attended--these are no longer provided. If you read the paper in the last 10 years you would be aware. Many lower income families cannot even contribute to these costs for their kids. These are the kind of kids she teaches.
So I say good for her. Why throw away your money that you already are using to cover what should be provided by the school system, for an unnecessarily high fee that is really just another added tax. And yes, it is a hardship to pay a high fee when you are already making up out of your own pocket for what government is not providing that is necessary to do your job.
And by the way, this would not be a public issue if this city government worked as it should. Filing fees are not published--supposedly. Another slimy "news" leak from corruption central. THAT'S the really salient issue here, if you are honest.

Anonymous said...

Okay, let me see if I have my facts straight:

1. Diane didn't pay the filing fee.
Maybe if she had thousands and thousands thrown her way by murky political "supporters" she could play fast and loose with cash.

2. She didn't attend the forums because she was intimidated.
Did these people ever meet Diane? She is a self-confident, assertive woman who doesn't back down to anyone when she's in the right. She was very ill for nearly a month from a superbug and was housebound and couldn't make the forums or what have you (as her opponent very well knew, but chooses to pretend not to).

3. A new low in the "dirty tricks" department.
There is a whispering campaign that Diane is to ill to actually serve Lake Worth. Complete nonsense. She knocked on my door recently and if she's ill or intimidated, you sure could'a fooled me.

At no time during our talk did she lower herself to personal attack, innuendo, and character assassination that has been the hallmark of her opponent's minions. They snark, and smear, while Ms. T holds herself above the fray, pretending not to know what's being done under her name. Disgusting.
