It's interesting that the people who demand freedom of speech and expression when they draw cartoons and who also call law enforcement agents "jack booted thugs" seem to do 180's when its their interests that are stake. 1st Amendment rights for us, not for you...right?
Radical right wing nuts like these guys are the biggest threat to this country right now. They're already waging war on liberals as your post illustrates and it will be no time before they graduate to more advanced, violent and coordinated attacks on traditional liberal institutions.

Freedom of expression and the 1st Amendment cover flag burning just as much as it protects those Mohammed cartoons in Texas. So when the Right gets all up in arms about Muslims attacking them for their cartoon drawing in Texas and then turn around and attack flag burners, it's hypocrisy in its highest form. Not that they, or you, have the sense to make that connection in your far right minds...no, you just don't like it when someone says or does something that disagrees with you and then you do you act just like the Muslims who attack cartoonists.
The only difference is that they do it in the name of Islam and you do it in the name of some warped sense of patriotism while you stupidly step all over the Constitution.
Totally disagree with your liberal point of view. Our flag is the symbol of Americanism and freedom--not religion. Everything you accuse me of being describes you to a T. I don't like people attacking my religion but it is your right to do so. Draw some cartoons and terrorists go in and blow you up. That is not a right they have.

It is obvious, 6:02 that you have no love for this country. This is very sad. People died for you in defending our flag. The very rights you defend you don't afford to someone else. Flag burning should be a crime and I'm all for that in spite of what the Supreme Court says. They just don't get it right all of the time as we have seen lately.
Exactly, anonymous. The Supreme Court of the United States only "gets it right" when they rule in a way that you're happy with, right? I'm not even sure why they deliberate at all. They should just ask people like you what you think and follow your lead.
And, Lynn, you'll apparently never understand that freedom of expression, freedom of speech applies to everyone and almost every situation....whether it be drawing cartoons or burning a flag. No, I wouldn't burn a flag and neither would a lot of people. But if they did it, it's symbolic speech and it's protected by the 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Don't believe me, look it up.
People burning flags shouldn't be beat down by biker thugs any more than cartoonists shouldn't be terrorized by radical Islamists.
That's what sets this great country apart from 3rd world authoritarian regimes and dictatorships.

The rest of what you said is correct but it doesn't mean that I agree with some of it nor that I like it. Hillary wanted to have an amendment that would make it illegal to burn our American flag. That was about 10 years ago. Conveniently, people change their minds. I bet the majority of Americans would vote for that but you never know with the change of America that has happened over the last 7 years. Coincidentally, that was around the time that I changed my mind about her.

Couldn't agree more. But I have to say that using blogpost titles like the one you used here is incendiary and does nothing to advance that humanistic exchange, which, again, is a great idea.
And don't even get me started on how the photoshops in the right sidebar fit into that "little nicer" world. It's great and easy to say you'll be nicer. It's another thing to adhere to it when emotions run high.
But I think it's a very worthwhile goal.

I don't plan on being "gentle" toward your sensibilities...that's not what this blog is about and it's why 50,000 people a month come here. And if you're wondering why I take the stand I do on local issues, that's easy. Again, I am a conservative and don't like lying sneaks and those officials sticking it to the people that they serve. I have not deviated from my position, ever. Honesty is the key and I write from the heart. I don't expect anyone in this city to agree with me on national issues. And guess what again?????????
