Yesterday, Gov. Rick Scott signed HB 989 into law. This law is known as Legacy Florida, "that will steer millions of dollars annually toward maintaining the state’s troubled, environmental treasures.
The legislation (HB 989) dedicates as much as $200 million annually to Everglades restoration, $50 million to freshwater springs across the state, and $5 million to Lake Apopka. The waterways have all been damaged and continue to be threatened by development and neighboring farm interests." Read more...

Implementation of the Water and Land Conservation Constitutional Amendment;
Requiring specified amounts of funds within the Land Acquisition Trust

the use of funds distributed for Everglades restoration projects for
projects that reduce harmful discharges to the St. Lucie estuary and the
Caloosahatchee estuary; requiring such appropriations to be reduced by
an amount equal to the debt service paid on bonds issued for specified
purposes, etc.

The people of Florida voted overwhelmingly for preservation. Finally,our law makers are catching up.Or is it more like they are being dragged kicking and screaming,,,
Not our Lake Worth Trio or Palm Beach County. Ball stadium in a public park. Don't preserve our park and lake. Need developers money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't understand why they have not, even this far after it was passed, bought the land mandated by amendment to restore the natural flow of water into the Everglades.
Are they still using the money from this mandate to pay for maintenance salaries against it's purpose?
Was the Pam in the song "colt 45 " modeled after our very own Mayor Pam ?
