No place for ballfield
John Prince Park is not a piece of undeveloped land waiting for someone to build on it. It is a green park with many activities. It has been there for over 40 years.
There is Lake Osborne, with boating and other water activities. There are campgrounds, picnic tables and walking trails through the park. There are places to sit and just admire the green of nature.
I do not know if the county needs another ballpark, or how to best pay for it. I do know it does not belong in John Prince Park.

Amen ! Susan gets it !
Okeeheelee Park has a vast amount of space. Why don't they put it there????? BECAUSE THE TRIO WANTS IT HERE. Or should I say Maxwell wants it here so he can take his golf cart to the games and not have to pay for parking.
Very well said and so right! It involves destruction of public property for the benefit of billionaires. This is classic Scott Maxwell, and the deadly trio. It's called theft of public land and his donors again get off Scott free. Economic advantage?? I already know of someone who is moving away because of this.
Put it in Bryant Park. That place is dirty, run down and filled with homeless people. There are used needles all over the ground. If we give Bryant Park to the Braves then the people of Lake Worth won't have to worry about paying to take care of it any more . Talk about economic benefits for our dying down town ! And Hudson Holdings would have the hotel for everyone to stay in ! Baseball ,golf and our great beach! What a home run. Play Ball-in Bryant Park.
I'm proud my grandson is playing on the MLB field TODAY at Roger Dean Stadium. Yep... the Jupiter stadium is used by ALL the community and this is just one fine example as two West Palm Beach High Schools, Oxbridge Academy and Cardinal Newman play today. He is so thrilled he even woke himself up this morning! And he's beyond excited about being on a big league field, even if he warms the bench. He's following in his bug brother's footsteps - who is now playing baseball on a scholarship in part due to the excellent facilities and coaches affiliated with Roger Dean and the summer camps they run at the stadium for hundreds and hundreds of kids. And no one is complaining about two high schools playing along with their adoring fans able to make the 12:00 game - my son says there are about 400 people there today.
I know most of the posters on this site are against having a ball stadium in county owned John Prince Park and also against using any park - but then they are the same people offering up county owned Okeeheelee Park, or worst Lake Worth's Bryant Park which is deed restricted.
So are you complainers against kids playing outdoors? Honing their skills in the hopes of playing High School ball, working hard to maintain good grades and develop their skills on the field instead of running and gunning on the streets and getting into gangs and drugs and into trouble.
Are you schizophrenic? Just emotionally unhinged? Just old as dirt and don't give a rip about our young people?
And why do you not have a problem with the Lantana Airport being in John Prince Park?
Planes and helicopters are way louder than the crack of a bat and the occasional cheer from the crowd. And way, way more dangerous. And way, way more polluting with their fuel and potential fuel spills that run right into Lake Osborne. Talk about benefiting the privileged... I just called out there and the (FBO) Flight Base Operator says there are about 270 aircraft stationed there; 198 single engine, 50 multi engine, 20 helicopters, and 2 gliders. They even rent airplanes out there...
There are no landing fees for these aircraft, and they pay a modest parking fee for tie down, and more for hangers... all of which in no way pays for this much land being set aside for the privileged few. There's also several flight schools offered, and maintenance for aircraft.
All these operate as for profit companies while utilizing the John Prince county park and they rent the space they operate out of. When I look at a birds eye view of the park, the Lantana Airport takes up easily 25 - 35% of the entire park - for the sole benefit of the say 300+ privately owned small airplanes and helicopters - as well as the several businesses located on site to service the aircraft.
So why do we not hear from all the environmentalist about the fuel issue? All for so few to enjoy? Doesn't seem fair I say.
Which is it? Because you often sound like you're talking out of both sides of your mouth at the same time.
I posted your comment although your argument is flawed and your personal attacks are unwelcome.
When this land was donated, it consisted of more than 1,000 acres. Some of it was carved out for the college and some for the Airport. The rest of it was for John Prince Park. This all happened in the 1930's and 40's.
It is now 2016 and you want to argue that the airport and the college is private enterprise so we should now give up some of our park property to the Atlanta Braves? We are talking about 80 plus years ago and this park, after it was divided, most was deed restricted.
So, your argument doesn't fly in the 21st Century--only to corporate welfare recipients.
Also, try coming over here one more time with your insults and crap--it won't happen. That's the trouble with you people...insults out the ying yang and you have no consideration about anything else but yourself.
You have a hell of a nerve, actually.
To: 11:12 Regarding the airport. It was not built to serve people with money.
The airport was built in the 1940's. The US Government and the county reached an agreement on the land and the US Government built the airport for the purpose of Civil Air Patrol and Army Air Force Antisubmarine Command. They were stationed here TO PROTECT OUR CITIZENS. It has only been since the 1990's that the airport has been used for private planes.
It was not built by multi millionaires using land to make more millions. THERE IS A VAST DIFFERENCE HERE. This deal is being made for CONVENIENCE NOT FOR NECESSITY. It is convenient to play ball here because you won't have to drive to the other 2 stadiums that are already here. Do you really think the other stadiums are not going to see a drop in attendance if this one goes through.
I noticed you didn't say anything about the destruction of wildlife or environment. I noticed you did not mention anything about the traffic situation that will occur if this stadium is built (obviously you do not have to fight the traffic right now).
I noticed you did not mention that ambulances will have a hard time entering and exiting the hospital. What if it was your son who was in the ambulance and it was stuck in traffic for a long time and your son was in critical condition. Purely a selfish comment on your part.
I commend you Lynn. At least you publish the bullshit that others give you. You are a better person all around than Wes. He will not post anything that goes against him or his followers.
@7:30--thanks, but I have a definite policy, Wes does not. Normally I would not have posted that comment at 1:12 above as it goes against policy. You can debate without personal attacks.
Personal attacks only come from those that are too lazy or to dumb or down right lazy to do their homework before they open their pieholes. You do yours and they have nothing to do but insult your intelligence. They are disrespectful to you and to others.
