Workshop Session tonight

So much for an open and transparent city--Yesterday, this was finally listed on the Lake Worth web site as a workshop meeting with no back-up.. Many people won't know about it and no one will get any back-up on what the engineers have to report on our Olympic Pool. And, traditionally the public can NOT speak at work sessions.

Should be called, "How to Control the Opposition"!

Bornstein and Maxwell are the biggest instigators of crap that goes on in our city.

Kimley Horn is well respected and much more reputable than the $7 million cons who are Bornstein's pals.

It is likely their assessment will be much more objective than the water park pushers.

Maxwell is always complaining about the cost of the beach. Is it possible he wants to spend $7 million on the garage/ water park fiasco?

We should be able to see some backup. Did they use the OLD pool specs? Nobody knows. I don't trust these people as far as I could throw Maxwell.Another Summer starting with our pool closed-And did you know that IT'S NOT MAKING ANY MONEY????
This is so shameful . Lake Worth could have helped to prevent child and adult drownings, but no-here Pam ,Andy and Scot sit with their thumbs up their butts AGAIN! because they still want to give our beach front away.

You ever get that "opt out form"?

It's a dinosaur that is well past its prime. Look at ALL that "ocean front" real estate taken up by a broken down, 1970's era pool with a very deep middle where you could have a high dive before the attorneys got ahold of them. Turn it into resident two tiered parking and call it a day. Build a small building with bathrooms, showers and lockers where people could rent them all day for a couple bucks to store their valuables while visiting our beautiful BEACH.

It doesn't have to be a "dinosaur" anonymous @12:03. All the city has to do is find the grants and repair our pool. It can find the $$ when it wants to repair the Osborne gym. Also, an adequate budget for maintenance is in order. Market the damn thing. Don't give me the song and dance that it is a "white elephant."
Where there's will, there is a way. This city manager has no will. Instead of spending $200k on repairs, they are devising an aquatic park for $4 to $6 million. Crazy! Our pool has NEVER been advertised and NEVER marketed in any way.

The aquatic park is also a stupid idea. There are still white elephants alive, this is a dinosaur, extinct. Needs to be in a museum. "Back in the old days, kids, we used to get our swim suits on and go to the beach to go swimming in the frikin POOL!"

Move it to the mainland and utilize our ocean front for something more people will benefit from. Pay $2 per hour to park AND then pay for admission. Market it all you want. It is the wrong place for our pool. Made sense when it was salt water.

Now it's fresh. Costs WAY more to maintain than it brings in and occupies extremely valuable land that could be much better utilized.

The idea of schlepping all that stuff to a pool, or the beach is not my cup of tea. And then, you don't even have a chair yet. If I can't go to a hotel pool/beach, or an HOA pool, I'll forgo the experience. I take a bath every morning, and that's all the water exposure I need.

It's not about you anony 12:51

ya can't fix LW kinda crazy...such illumination
one can hardly stand the special glow of evil!

I'm outta there so why keep up the Devilish games?

"Move it to the mainland".Where? To one of the oh so special neighborhoods east of federal? NO ! FIX OUR POOL ! People loved to go the beach AND our pool. There are many days when the beach is not safe to go into-our pool is a wonderful place for everyone to go to. And keep the damn thing open for REAL HOURS when REAL people can use our pool.
Shame on Pam ,Andy ,Scott and their minion Bornsteinn to lie to the people.

Pam Andy and Scott- close our pool so we can kick your butts out of office !

Move it to the mainland where ever your dumb ass wants it. A money pit does not belong on the most valuable piece of property the city owns. Not only is it a money loser, it is hard for kids to get to during the summer and expensive for those who want to drive there to park.

It made more sense when it was salt water for one of the reasons stated above. Rough seas, man-o-war, tar, etc. It no longer makes sense and is almost 50 years old. Plus it has a building that blocks any view of the ocean from the pool or of the pool from a beach goer.

Half a million to "repair" it and we still have the dinosaur. Spend a few million and you start to attract more people but you also need more personnel which drives up overhead and you drown in red ink.

For sure they don't have m any good options. I'm as sentimental as the next person about how "we've always had a pool at the beach". I am also a realist. And I don't think it has to make money. Breaking even is not even a reality. It has never broken that line.

So let's move it and make the space it occupies a money maker for the tax payers of Lake Worth.

Lynn Anderson said...

It's not all about money, anonymous at 12:40. Life is so much more than that. And one resident told you that last night...it is quality of life and our pool is just that for her and many others. You represent all of the people. Start thinking that way.

Anonymous said...

I don't know who you think I am, but I stated it doesn't have to make money. That resident could have a good quality of life if she were swimming in a pool on the mainland. And her quality of life would be better as living here in Lake Worth would not cost her so much. Your graph above states it pretty well. Do we want to spend half a million dollars to return to 1970?

If I voted for you, I'd say NO!

Lynn Anderson said...

You are taking the view of a couple of commissioners so since you comment anonymously it is impossible to know who you are.
Why would the city even think about building a pool for several mil on the mainland when we have the only Olympic Pool on the Atlantic ocean that we can totally renovate including pump house and locker rooms for $500,000?
Sounds like a very easy decision to me.

Anonymous said...

Totally renovate means taking it back to where it was originally. 1970. Put that $500,000.00 towards a new facility with amenities people want with easier access. Yes, a lap pool, yes some where the kiddies can play under water features. Look at Lake Lytle. Look at John Prince park.

No matter what you do with it, it will still be a money pit on our most valuable piece of property which should have every square foot benefiting ALL Lake Worth residents, not just the fifty people who use the pool regularly.
