What are the number one concerns in the City of Lake Worth? Recently the city conducted a survey that arrived with your electric bill. Hopefully we will get to hear the results of this data next month. My guess for the top three is as follows:
1. Slum and blight
2. Potholes
3. Crime
What are your top three concerns?

Quote of the Day - Rick Perry
"It is an absolute overflowing mess is
what it is. And this is something we brought to the attention of the
president over two years ago, back in 2012, when we saw this was a major
issue. We flagged this. And we’re still waiting for a response not just
from the president but from the administration. So it is a major
problem. And 1,000 people a day is what we’re seeing apprehended at the
current rate. I mean, it’s just an impossible figure to really get your hands around. We’ve got an amazing amount of resources on the border. It’s not the state’s responsibility to be dealing with this issue. We’re doing our part to make sure we can keep our citizens as safe as we can. But the federal government is just absolutely failing. We either have an incredibly inept administration or they’re in on this somehow. I hate to be conspiratorial, but how do you move that many people from Central America across Mexico and into the United States without there being a fairly coordinated effort?”

Quote of the Day - Paul Ryan to IRS Commissioner
Scott Maxwell - He was Against it before he was For it
Comment Up
Now that we are going through budget discussion it brings to mind September 2011 when Scott Maxwell was against just about everything when it came to the budget. He was just plain ornery in general. If the "other" side wanted it, he was against it. It was his belief that he was sitting on the dais with a bunch of tree huggers, anarchists, socialists and people who just wanted the worst for our city. Of course, it was under their leadership that we finally got out of the red.
In that year we were actually spending less than revenues for the second time since 2006. Scott was irate and put on a good show that was all political pandering to his political base. He couldn't stand Stanton and disapproved of anything and everything that she was trying to accomplish to get our city out of the black hole in order to get our city healthy. He told everyone that and politically undermined the majority.
In a scornful way, Maxwell said that "Government likes to spend money. We have discovered a new source of revenue to spend more money."
An assessment for fire pensions was the narrative of the day and Maxwell was ticked...so was I but not for the same reason as he. This was to cover PENSIONS, not fire services. Maxwell never suggested that the millage be reduced back then to accommodate this fire assessment. Although he was against the tax, he said that he thought it fair that every property owner pay the same fee as they were getting the same service. What service? It was for freaking pensions. And he has said that this "fairness" is what he believes in for the 2014 infrastructure money grab as well.
Back then the City hired Government Services Group to conduct a Study (using taxpayers money) to be used against us to see how much more the city manager, Susan Stanton, could assess and what she could legally get away with. The City's goal was to have a street light assessment implemented on October 1, 2011 according to the city's directive. The city commission had agreed with this assessment too, another thing that I was against.
Back then, Maxwell also dissented on the Capital Improvement Program for 2012/2016 (5 year plan) approval of $58,264,983 passed 4/1. Now what does he support with gusto? He has suggested that he is all for reducing the millage rate and is all in favor of a new source of revenue where every parcel of property will be tied up in debt for over thirty years for? You got it--capital improvements to the tune of $63.5 million. The big difference is grabbing the money all at once. He is all for the biggest capital improvement plan in 100 years.
As a self-proclaimed fiscal conservative, he's not screaming now against more taxes. Now who's disingenuous?

IRS Scandal
Daniel Henninger of the Wall Street Journal, a finalist for the Pulitzer
Prize in his own right, wrote
the IRS scandal was even more significant than the one that toppled the Nixon
presidency.
“The IRS tea-party audit story isn’t Watergate; it’s worse than Watergate,” Henninger wrote. “The Watergate break-in was the professionals of the party in power going after the party professionals of the party out of power. The IRS scandal is the party in power going after the most average Americans imaginable.”

Juvenile Criminals get a break in Florida
The courts continue to coddle the juvenile criminal. These punks know that they can literally get away with murder. Known juvenile offenders were involved in at least 680 murders in the
U.S. in 2011, representing about 7% of all known murder offenders. This was the lowest statistic in 32 years. On average, juveniles were involved in one-quarter of all serious violent
victimizations (not including murder) committed annually over the last 25
years. Read more..
Rick Scott signed a few bills into law yesterday. One was HB 7035-— that would make it clear that Florida juveniles will no longer be subject to mandatory life sentences. It brings Florida law in line with a 2012 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that says life without parole for juveniles violates the Constitution’s ban against cruel and unusual punishment.
This won't affect Nathaniel Brazill, however. He only got 28 years for the murder of Barry Grunow, his Lake Worth Middle School teacher. Nathaniel thinks his sentence was too long.

Arrested: Two Meth manufacturers
The PBSO advisory reported that there was a meth lab being run out
of a home in the 1700 block of Lake Osborne Circle, Lake Worth. ( I am confused regarding the address. There is a Lake Osborne Drive and a Lake Osborne Terrace in Lake Worth. This is probably in Lake Osborne Heights, and it is on Osborne Circle, not located in the city of Lake Worth). Nevertheless, it is too close for comfort.
Further investigation led agents from PBSO and DEA to serve a search warrant at the home yesterday. Agents determined there was a one pot meth lab being operated out of the home. Two subjects were arrested for manufacture of a meth lab as well as possession of meth.
Arrested: Tyler Bisbin 5/23/92 and Jacob Bisbin 8/1/86. Both suspects have been booked into the PBC Jail.

Patriotism takes a punch
As Lake Worth is in the process of hanging flags all over the place through Independence Day, here is a guy who got in trouble because his flag "could offend Muslims" or so he was told. The real truth is his association has a rule against hanging anything on the common elements. The property manager should not have fudged the truth to sound "politically correct," or dumb, take your pick.

Month of November legal for Referendums Supervisor is told
Comment Up
Greatly admired attorney Ken Spillias of Lewis, Longman and Walker and one who advises the Supervisor of Elections, just told Susan Bucher that she has no legal authority to prevent a city referendum from going to the polls this November.
Remember, this is why Lake Worth's general obligation bond referendum will be on the ballot in August, a month that is expected to have little turn-out. It is curious as to why Lake Worth did not challenge this as the referendum will affect all property owners and the amount they will be taxed for 30 years. Don't you think they would want to have the vote in the month where voters actually show up at the polls?

P.S. I hope that Palm Beach Garden's referendum passes on term limits.
