Is anything sacred with Ron Klein?

Greetings Patriot,

How would you feel if you arrived home after work only to hear your two teenage daughters describe the mailing your family received, publicly disclosing your Social Security number? And imagine your disgust when you discover the same mailing had just been sent to thousands of homes across Broward and Palm Beach Counties?

Well, that just happened to me on Friday evening.

Incumbent Ron Klein has just sunk to an unprecedented new low in American politics. Klein has sent my social security number to voters all across Florida's 22nd Congressional District.

I understand politics is a tough business. I expect to be challenged about my ideas, my beliefs.

But Ron Klein has clearly crossed a line. Our lawyers are reviewing what legal action is available to my family.

I'm not yet sure the potential damage that might come to my wife and me.

And it makes me sick to think of what could happen to my daughters.

South Florida has the highest number of incidents of identity theft in the country - my entire family is now at risk of having our identities stolen. So we now have to start the long, complicated, drawn-out process of requesting new Social Security numbers, and all the troubles that come with that.

His type of politics must end now. If Ron Klein and his Liberal cronies will do this to me and my family, what will they do to each of you?

This is a despicable act by a desperate politician who is in danger of losing his job.

I have longed believed that the liberals would do anything just to stay in power. But never in my wildest dreams did I believe they would stoop this low.

Klein has once again aroused my competitive spirit. I am more determined than ever to spread the word of our cause to restore character, honor and integrity to Congress.

Will you redouble your efforts as well? Let's show Ron Klein his below the belt political smears have no place in America.

My trying to be gentle just doesn't cut it. Now that it has been reported upon, read what Carla Blockson and Lisa Maxwell said the other night at the Genesis NA meeting. Make up your own mind on the validity of the candidate's comments as well as their overall grasp of the budget and "stability" of our City. I am sure that you will come to the only logical conclusion.

One of the commenters puts down Dr. McVoy and calls environmentalists "kooks." I guess he needs to read McVoy's priorities as well as his educational background and achievements.

St. Pete Beach delays vote on Growth Plan

The other night marked a great victory for responsible growth management in Florida as the St. Petersburg City Council did an about-face and shelved a plan to create a "decoy" land-use map as a way of getting around the requirements of Amendment 4.

The Lies about Amendment 4

Debunking the "No on 4" crowd’s lies

ADAPTED FROM JOE MCCLASH, A MANATEE COUNTY COMMISSIONER WHO FAVORS AMENDMENT 4:

Lie Number One: Voters must “Vote on everything.”
NOT TRUE! Only Comprehensive land use Plan amendments will need to be voted on. There is no requirement to vote on items that are zoning issues. The opponents’ use of this lie has people believing that if they want to build a house or add a room, it would have to be voted on in a referendum. Just not true!

Lie Number Two: “Will drive jobless rates higher.”
Florida has the ability to more than triple its population without one more Comp Plan change, so this is just not true! And wasn’t it the “run wild development” that caused this great recession we are in now – speculation and over-development which created the worst crisis since the great depression?

Lie Number Three: “Would mean higher property taxes.”
If anything will drive taxes higher, it would be more development. Several studies show new residential development costs 40% to 50% more in taxes than we receive, which leaves existing taxpayers to subsidize developers.

Lie Number Four: “Local government will be required to hold expensive referendums. More elections require more tax dollars.”
The fact is, no expensive referendums are required. Every two years we have a primary and general election. There is even a Presidential primary “Super Tuesday” in March every four years. Amendment 4 would allow citizens to give their stamp of approval as part of the existing elections. The process allows that if a developer is in such a rush to change our community’s comp plan, they can request a special election – at their cost.

Lie Number Five: “Ultimately Amendment 4 would force local and state governments to raise taxes or cut services.”
This is already happening under our current economy with the devaluation of property values caused primarily from over-development. Amendment 4 will allow a process for citizens to give their stamp of approval on only those comprehensive land use changes that have the initial approval of their elected officials. There would be no reason to believe all these changes would be voted against. However, some could be voted down if citizens like their current plan over the developers' proposed change.

Lie Number Six: "Election ballots the size of small phone books on changes to Comp Plans"
The average community might have 2 to 4 land-use changes per year, if that. The voters know what or what not they want in their community. That is why they have spent over $1 mil to have a comprehensive plan and resent politicians changing the direction of their communities. There is no need for long explanations or confusing ballot language. Amendment 4 will stop the unnecessary land-use changes and city commissions changing Comprehensive Plans for developers against the wants of the residents who pay the taxes for the infrastructure, schools, etc.

Billboard Blight in Lake Worth -Thanks Jeff Clemens

It's bad enough that we had a past commission that voted in billboards in Lake Worth. This is so offensive in itself but now we have to read them in SPANISH! English is the official language of the State of Florida.

When you step into that voting booth on November 2, remember who caused this horrible blight on all of us in Lake Worth--the same commission that brought you the flim flam man at our beach, ending our RO system to go with the costly PB County water deal and other bad decisions. It took a whole new commission (of which Commissioner Suzanne Mulvehill is a part) to reverse some of these actions of the past.

We will be looking at these billboards for 20 years.

Amendment 4 featured in Letters to the Editor PB Post today

Although Eileen Tucker’s letter to the editor today was inaccurate in the facts or understanding of Amendment 4 and that is probably why she does not embrace it overall, she did capture the essence of the problem that we residents have been dealing with for several decades—city councils that vote against residents’ interests and just plain put aside their common sense. Are you listening Mayor Levy?

Amendment 4 only has to do with land-use changes—not variances to local Ordinances.

We are featuring Carl Terwilliger of Lake Worth who said "Put the public in charge of their communities." He does understand Amendment 4 and why we all should vote YES.

Amendment 4 would take power from deepest pockets

Amendment 4, Florida Hometown Democracy, would give you the right to vote on changes to our city and county comprehensive plans. In my community alone, there are almost 100 acres that developers had rezoned from one unit per acre to two units per acre. After spending more than $40 million, the company went out of business and left the properties to fill up with invasive plants. The homes were left to rot and became hangouts for drug dealers.

By changing Palm Beach County's comprehensive plan to allow twice as many homes to be built, the amount of money wasted was increased. Our county commissioners ignored the community's request to leave the plan in place. Changes to the comprehensive plan are supposed to benefit society and not developers.

Florida Hometown Democracy would not have stopped the building spree. But it would have slowed the pace and contained the areas developed. Just look at County, where developers want to push the urban boundary out into the western agricultural areas.

Put the public in charge of their communities, not the special interests with the deepest pockets that have corrupted so many of our county commissioners. With this amendment, developers would go through the same approval procedure as before, yet would also have to prove to us, at their expense, that their project will benefit the community. You can be sure that there would be only a few items to vote on because it will be easier and cheaper to just follow the comprehensive plan.

Florida Farm Bureau throws Rotten Egg

She never heard back from Mr. Hoblick.
She has been a long-time customer.

From the Farm Bureau's web site: Whereas government services to agricultural owners costs 25 cents out of every dollar paid in taxes, services to homeowners costs $1.50. Farmland does not require more roads, schools, garbage collection and other governmental services. Under the Greenbelt Law, FS 193.461 (3) (b), properties that are bona fide agricultural operations are taxed according to the “use” value of those operations, rather than the development value. Generally, tax assessments for qualifying land are lower than those for other uses. But ... all owners of such property do pay taxes.

So, you would think that taxpaying farmers and members of Florida Farm Bureau would be very concerned about development's continuing encroachment on Florida farmland and would want a voice at the table when it came to land-use changes.

All of you who have insurance with the Florida Farm Bureau and who do not feel the same way that their executive(s) feel about Amendment 4, give a call to John Hoblick first thing on Monday morning at (352) 378-8100 and express your displeasure or write him at Florida Farm Bureau Federation P.O. U.S. Senate candidates Debate

Candidates for the U.S. Senate debated last night and it was taped in order to broadcast. The debate will air tonight at 11PM on Univision stations across Florida. It will be dubbed in Spanish with English sub-titles. It is on-line now at univision23.com in Spanish.

Rubio was the only candidate of Hispanic heritage who did NOT speak Spanish during the debate.

From Dori--The statewide Florida Realtors association has started divvying up the $16 million it received to compensate real estate agents and brokers who lost business after the oil spill...

but, just as National Builders received taxpayer bailout money...contributing 2 mil to Oppose Amendment 4....now, the Florida Realtor Association has contributed 1 mil to the opposition, receiving $16 mill from the Oil spill that was to go to Realtor's, whose business was affected from the oil spill 'keeping buyers away'...

Tax Cuts for Wealthy about to Expire

Allowing tax cuts for the rich to expire is a campaign issue and Ron Klein has taken advantage of public opinion. It is understood that raising taxes during a recession will hurt the economy.

Ron Klein basically voted against Obama and his own Party along with 30 other Democrats regarding ending tax cuts for those making over $250,000 that George W. Bush signed into law seven years ago. Saying we needed tax credits for small businesses that will help create jobs, he supports at least a one year extension.

This is something that his opponent, Col. Allen West, has been advocating for all along.

Says now is the perfect time to invest in Lake Worth's future.

The present City Commission just voted to keep the millage rate the same as last year (4.999 mils). This means less money coming into the City because of a 24.7% drop in property values. Although some fees might be up, overall the City will be receiving LESS money than last year to operate. Lake Worth's millage has to be based on the need to pay for city services as well as the capacity of our residents to pay the tax. Consequently, the City had to reduce nearly all departmental budgets and take strong measures on Union Pension Retirement benefits. City Manager Stanton has said that the City can no longer oblige itself to spend money that it does not have. Therefore the FY 2011 Budget has been reduced and tough financial decisions were made. The Unions have still not budged; employees are complaining but none have been laid-off. This is the biggest and most expensive issue that we must solve.

One out of seven Americans are now in poverty because of the U.S. economy: high unemployment, a depressed housing market and foreclosures are on the rise. Our economy is not projected to improve in 2011. People can not find jobs, have lost their health insurance, and only those with high educational degrees have been able to withstand the recession. The poverty rate is set at $21,954 for a family of four. Here in Lake Worth, incomes are low with the average family at $35,374.

With the construction of a new Publix downtown, our beach restoration program, the rebuilding of our Casino, our own Reverse Osmosis Plant (that ended up saving us over $3.5 million), and our vision to finally do something at the Park of Commerce, this Commission, along with the help and expertise of our city manager, Susan Stanton, have made the right choices. Investing in our City will turn it all around and what better time to do it than right now when costs are the lowest in nearly two decades.

We have a City Commission that is deeply involved, working long and ridiculous hours, to solve the ills of this City. Because of budget reductions and oversight as well as deep analysis from the Finance Director and our City manager, the necessary steps have been assessed to achieve a balanced budget and regain long-term control of our finances-- our City is headed in a healthy direction.

St. Pete Beach

Mayor Bill Foster might veto the St. Petersburg Council's circumvention of Amendment 4. It depends upon what the Council does tonight.

The state's Department of Community Affairs objected to the city's ploy. An Aug. 26 report said the city had no legal basis in establishing a second map and that the newer categories were too vague. Foster defends the newer map, calling it the best way to brace for November's ballot measure, which he said would be a disaster for development. Read the rest of the article HERE.
