Sober Homes

Certified Lake Worth residences

On the front page of today's Post, was an article about Sober Homes. The law would require sober homes to be inspected and certified and subject to ethical codes and consumer protections if they want referrals. If a sober Home is not certified, drug treatment centers will not be allowed to refer any patients to them.

Sober home owners and CFO's and other top officials would have to undergo criminal background checks. The Florida legislature says that sober homes must have a recovery residence administrator.

So, time will tell if sober homes make application to become certified. So far, there are 87 sober home companies out of 300 that do meet the standards. If it affects their pocket-book, hopefully all will become certified and then we will have a handle as to how many of them are in our city.

The Town of Palm Beach is looking at putting restrictions in its zoning laws that will limit Sober Homes in residential neighborhoods. Click here

Let's hope the legislature can solve this horrible problem and these homes that have taken over our city causing crime in our neighborhoods.
