Tonight's the night to learn something about the candidates. I have met them all but really have not heard their platform or ideas for our city. Can't wait...can you? I understand that attorney, John Paxman, will once again be the moderator and that candidates will answer thirteen questions. There will be a program with brief bios of each candidate.

Well we learned your sweetheart choice, Hartman over Maxwell would fire PBSO and the City Manager. He would invite more homeless into the city. If you didn't know his philosophy, you'd think he was just an ok kinda guy. Talk about a wolf in sheep's clothing.

The challenger to the Mayor came off as negative and arrogant. Gary doesn't know what e-mail is. McAlonan sounded like an intelligent candidate but was mis-informed about many issues and it was evident in his closing statement.

Many comments I heard afterward seemed to center around the theme of "do we want to keep this positive momentum or go backwards?"

All in all, the forum was well executed and it was good that all candidates got to answer all the questions.

Your opinion, anonymous. Conjecture and fantasy is not what I am interested in particularly. I am interested in performance and right now, our city is in decline.

I've lived in the city for four years, but this was the first time I went to the debates. It seemed like the challengers were set up by a bunch of questions deliberately designed to make the incumbents look good (and they didn't look too good after all was said and done). I've been following some of the posts today, and disagree with many of them. They were obviously supporters of the incumbents (AKA the gang of three), but I was there and think the challengers held their own, especially Dianne Jacques who spoke for all of us who are tired of the self congratulatory rhetoric from those two incompetent commissioners and our clueless Mayor. My neighbors can't let their kids place outside because of the crime, my car's been broken into twice, and a young man's corpse was stuffed into a garbage can just a block from Lake Avenue. How can the Mayor say crime is down? I think Dianne Jacques was strong, informed about the issues, and said the things most of us in Lake Worth have been saying for years. She really understands the things the residents care about.
