Grabbing the Money

Top headlines in today's Post:   City (West Palm Beach) on hook for HUD's $1.3 million.

The problems with this department go back as far as the 1980's. There have always been questions and charges of fraud and spending or just bad accounting. Four Palm Beach County Housing Authority employees were arrested in 2011 on charges of fraud and official misconduct, accused of abusing Section 8 housing benefits for their own benefit.

It is situations such as this that make residents very leery, and rightfully so, when voting to give officials $63.5 million dollars that will really cost them $131 million--all will go to the voters in Lake Worth this August. There is and has been too much corruption in Palm Beach County and Lake Worth's 2020 plan is lacking in details. What they tell us is never what they mean and all subject to change.

Last night a real sweetheart of a guy stated that he will be paying $338 a year for this bond. Well, that might be for the first year or if his value stays constant. It won't. What happens in year ten of this bond? What will he be paying then at an increase of 3% a year on his homesteaded property?
