Oops, forgot to ask the Residents
Lake Worth Needs Inclusive Planning
Just like “Six Plans
to Make Lake Worth a Better Place,” targeting developers and investors
to show how Lake Worth should look in the future; the baseball stadium
in John Prince Park, a boondoggle for special interests that was
determined not feasible; and now Lake Worth 2020 is yet another public
relations effort promising a fix for all that ails us.
The
visionaries who serve us have lost sight of Lake Worth. Our location,
our people, our natural resources are assets worthy of praise. And yes,
ours is a poor city with an old infrastructure. We do need a plan. We
need a plan that considers future climate instability, sea-level rise,
and temperature increases, and the effects of building, paving, and
increased water and sewer use. And especially, we need a plan that
includes the needs of our residents and welcomes their input.
Any
plan to borrow $60 million from taxpayers deserves great deliberation.
There has been little citizen outreach, no charettes, no workshops, and
only the four quickly contrived “town hall meetings” rushed to fulfill
the requirements of ballot inclusion for the August primary.
The
leaders of Lake Worth seem to have all the answers; unfortunately, they
haven’t asked the right questions. And they forgot to ask the people.
JO-ANN GOLDEN, LAKE WORTH

the 2nd paragraph is just too stupid for words. what in the world is ms. goldens plan. i mean if you make statements like that you must have some idea about what a city should do. what possible effect would new streets have on ocean rising.
It is a well known fact that infrastructure will be highly vulnerable to the effects of projected sea-level rise, especially during extreme events. Similarly, significant infrastructural damage could result from any increase in the frequency or intensity of extreme events such as floods, tropical storms, and storm surges.
You ridicule Ms. Golden? You now sound really stupid. It is the effect of sea level rising that should be considered before pouring $63.5 million into infrastructure that could be washed down the sewer, not the opposite. New streets don't have any effect on sea level rising. Where do you imbeciles come from?
What pamphlet did you copy your mindless tirade from. Aw hell do not fix anything and move to Nebraska.
Joann's letter is GOLDEN. Especially the last line. I'm not really in her political camp in general but I thought when she was on the commission she was a good public servant who listened to the people she served and tried to address their concerns. That's all out the window now with the new commission. These guys, McVoy excluded, don't have any clue about what it means to serve in elective office, to be representatives of the people. They could not care less.
agree with 4:14.
Ha, I was harassed by neighbors for having n Elect JoAnne sign on my property a couple of years ago.
Ah, the green lawns and ficus hedges of suburbia..
Hey, I have a green lawn and spend thousands to keep it that way.:)
Jo-Ann is tops in my book!
I like your place, Lynn. I don't know why the other blogger and his posse have such a problem with it.
They are just arbitrary people...if I say I am for something, they are automatically against it. Same thing about where I live. You can't pay attention to these negative folks.
This Commission has no plans to ask the people of Lake Worth about anything.Come to ,or listen to, a city commission meeting. You will understand in about 5 seconds that this group could care less about the people they are supposed to be representing. They are only there to raise funds for their friends and to hear themselves blow wind.
Yes, you're right, Lynn. I'm learning to ignore stuff like that myself, but still have a hard time.
I definitely need a thicker skin.
Kudos to you!
Just sour grapes. Look where the City went while she was in office (down the gutter) and look where it's gone since she was voted out (moving on up). Every elected official listens to certain members of the citizenry, just depends on which ones they choose to listen too. Joann took her advice from unemployed, uneducated, mooching socialists and the City went to crap. Fortunately, the current commissions listens to people who have real life and business experience and who have managed more than $10 in their bank accounts.
I went ahead and posted the above at 11:54 EVEN though it is full of fallacies and false assumptions. Actually, it is a sad commentary to the truth of the matter.
You must have really been sleeping during that time, anonymous, as a lot of great things occurred. Where were you? The City finally turned itself around...look at the Financials. Where have you been? The graphs speak volumes and discount everything you said. How come you are so misinformed? Unemployed, uneducated socialists? Too funny.
Anon 11:54
You can't be speaking about JoAnn because I was her polar opposite, she read the information I gave to her and at her request, we sat down for coffee and talked about it! I felt listened to way more than this crew that reverts to name calling and shaming when they have no grown up words (or a factual argument) to be had. At least someone has $10 left in their pocket because this DAIS is addicted to bright ideas that never came from the people and like a gambling addict they want US to allow them to put it all on one number like a roulette wheel at Vegas!
Did I mention the DRAINING OF RESERVES (Our Cities Savings)?
We won't have $10 left to the cities name and the question I'd like answered is will our homes become collateral for the road bond (LOAN) if it passes and we default on the repayment?
Some moron (I can say that--my blog!) just tried to post here and accused me of posting at 4:54. I agree, that is a good post but it wasn't mine. I post under my name. Here were her words:
You can't hide your uneducated blather. The comment at 4:54 is so obviously you.
Anonymous, you just showed how ridiculous and laughable you are. Go take a nap. Or better yet, go write your own damn blog but that would be way too much work and it does take a little of that. You would be much better suited to an attack blog, sort of like the bully or the guy you supported against McVoy--the master of personal attacks..
How can it be said "Lake Worth forgot to ask the residents"
By putting it on the ballot for a vote, Lake Worth is asking the residents.
The residents will answer with their vote!!!
The deck is stacked against the property owners as they will be fed only what the city wants them to know. They will have no clue that it is for 30+ years. They will not understand when they vote FOR it that they agreed to give them their property as collateral on a general obligation bond. They have not given us details of the bond.
