Seniors will not get $250

Congress has just rejected a $250 one time payment to senior citizens, veterans and the disabled. Seniors also did not get a COLA for 2011, the first time since 1975. The one-time $250 payment for retirees and other beneficiaries would have represented less than 2 percent of the average annual Social Security benefit. The reason given was our low rate of inflation. The real reason, the government needs this money to bail-out every loser around.

This is a joke and I thought about it yesterday as I filled up my car with the cheap gas at $3.05 a gallon.

Social Security is not Socialism or a government "entitlement" as some people purport. It is an annuity. People paid into it their entire working career. "Entitlements" are programs such as Medicaid, food stamps, low rent public housing, low income energy assistance, etc.

The Post today encouraged readers to take their poll on this issue. I object to the way the Post asked the question--It read as follows: Do Seniors deserve a $250 present from Washington?

Nope. We don't deserve anything. Perhaps we would settle for a wee bit of respect and for working all of our lives, not living off of welfare, for paying into the system to support social security for all those who came before us. We can't help the fact that the government "borrowed" against social security (a Trust Fund) for all of their global give-aways and have no intention of paying it back.

We certainly don't deserve less than an illegal immigrant.
