Pete Hegseth rejects report of White House search to replace Pentagon deputy secretary

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is pushing back hard against a Reuters report claiming the White House is considering replacements for his deputy, Steve Feinberg, a story he says is “COMPLETELY false” and driven by outside interests opposed to reform.

On September 5, 2026, Pete Hegseth took to X to flatly deny that the White House had interviewed candidates to replace Deputy Secretary of Defense Steve Feinberg, after a report from Reuters, published the day before, according to Mediaite’s reporting, sparked speculation about more turnover at the top of the Pentagon.

Hegseth’s response was blunt and personal, calling the story “COMPLETELY false” and framing it as an attack by “outside forces” threatened by Feinberg’s success in advancing the president’s agenda.
“The [Department of Defense] has never had a better Deputy Secretary than Steve Feinberg,” Hegseth declared in his post, adding, “Outside forces (i.e. companies he is pressing for results!) want Steve gone because he is so effective in advancing [President Donald Trump’s] agenda. His leadership is HISTORIC.”

Reuters had reported, citing three unnamed people familiar with the discussions, that the White House had interviewed candidates to replace Feinberg. But Hegseth’s public denial left little room for ambiguity, and the Department of Defense (War) under his leadership is presenting a unified front against what it views as unfounded rumors.

The Trump administration is asking the Supreme Court to revive a federal voter-eligibility verification system that a Biden-appointed district judge shut down in June, a move Solicitor General John Sauer says threatens the integrity of upcoming elections.

Sauer filed an emergency application with the high court requesting a stay of the order issued by U.S. District Judge Sparkle Sooknanan, who blocked the federal government from using an updated version of the SAVE program, short for Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements, to help states confirm that only citizens remain on their voter rolls.

The case, League of Women Voters et al. v. DHS, is docketed as No. 26A at the Supreme Court.

At stake is whether states can continue tapping a federal database that cross-references Social Security records to flag non-citizens registered to vote. Sauer called the district court order "indefensible" and warned that it strips the government of its most effective tool for answering state requests to verify citizenship, not just for elections, but for other federal and state benefit programs as well.

The Danbury City Council in Connecticut has approved a policy allowing non-citizen legal migrants and recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program to serve as police officers.

The council voted 18-2 on September 1. Both dissenting votes came from Republicans. The decision has triggered a sharp response from the Trump administration, especially after recent arrests involving illegal immigrants in the city.

DACA recipients are individuals who entered the United States illegally as children and were later given temporary protection from deportation under the program. The Danbury policy now opens the door for them and other noncitizens to serve in law enforcement.

Josefina Aguirre grew up among the piñatas hanging from the ceiling of Little Mexico Meat Market, the store her parents opened in New York City’s El Barrio in 1997, three years after her father crossed the border from Mexico at 17.

She has a bachelor’s degree in business management, a qualification her parents, Oscar and Guadalupe Aguirre, insisted on. But she came back to work at the store anyway—to the same three coolers of fresh cheese and cilantro, the same shelves of jalapeños and tomatillos, and the same customers who still bring in their mail so she can read it to them in English.

The store has survived the opening of a Costco nearby. It survived COVID-19, barely. Her father caught the virus and died before he ever got to enjoy the retirement he had worked 28 years for.

Now, Aguirre and her sisters, who run the shop together, are bracing for what they see as the biggest threat yet: a city-subsidized grocery store that can sell a $10 steak for $7, because, unlike them, it doesn’t have to turn a profit.

“We’re not scared of competition,” Aguirre told The Epoch Times on Aug. 29 from behind the counter in Spanish Harlem. “We just want fair competition.”

Nancy Pelosi's latest financial disclosure reveals her household sank between $3 million and $12 million into Bloom Energy stock and options just weeks before the company's addition to the S&P 500 sent shares up nearly 40%.

The former House Speaker signed a transaction report on August 21 detailing two rounds of purchases in the San Jose, California-based fuel cell maker, trades that, once again, preceded a major catalyst for the stock.

Bloom Energy closed at $277.22 per share on Tuesday, more than doubling year-to-date and climbing more than 400% over the past twelve months. The company now carries a market cap of nearly $83 billion.

Deluzio says Democrats are "pi$$ed" at Fetterman

Pennsylvania Democrat Deluzio says he 'might' primary Fetterman in 2028 as party turns on the senator

A second-term Pennsylvania congressman is openly floating a primary challenge to Sen. John Fetterman, the latest sign that Democrats have all but given up on the first-term senator who keeps breaking with his party.

Rep. Chris Deluzio went on NewsNation's "The Hill Sunday" program and told host Chris Stirewalt that he has not ruled out running against Fetterman in the 2028 Democratic primary. The admission followed a social media post days earlier in which Deluzio accused Fetterman of failing the people who sent him to Washington.

The Hill reported that Deluzio, when asked directly about a challenge, did not shut the door:

"I might, I haven't decided that. And to be really blunt, I'm doing everything I can right now to help Democrats in Pennsylvania flip congressional seats to give Josh Shapiro a governing majority in the state Senate and grow the majority in the state House."

That answer, "I might", is as close to a declaration of intent as a sitting congressman can offer without filing paperwork. Deluzio framed his immediate focus as the midterms, but left 2028 wide open.

Democrats can't wait to get rid of a sensible guy.

DOJ seized $560,000 bound for Hamas

Justice Department seizes $560,000 in cryptocurrency meant for Hamas, dismantles online recruitment network

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced the DOJ seized more than $560,000 in crypto donations allegedly bound for Hamas and took down the terror group's online fundraising and recruitment infrastructure.

The operation, run out of Pirro's office in the District of Columbia with FBI support, targeted an encrypted group chat that claimed affiliation with Hamas and funneled supporters toward a fundraising website and a rotating set of cryptocurrency wallet addresses.

Once the FBI gained control of the online infrastructure, servers, domains, and communication platforms, investigators intercepted the donations before they could reach Hamas's military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, Breitbart News reported.

Federal court documents show the seizures happened across three dates, March 25, June 25, and October 10, 2025, each time building on intelligence from human sources who helped investigators identify, trace, and ultimately confiscate the funds. The combined haul totaled approximately $560,000 in cryptocurrency.

She added that investigators had obtained the names and identities of thousands of individuals who tried to send money to Hamas, information the DOJ intends to use in ongoing counterterrorism efforts.

"My message to Hamas is clear. Your networks are not secure, your crypto is vulnerable, and we will not stop until your ability to wage war is defeated for once and for all."

What happens when a political party needs an influencer’s audience more than the influencer needs the party?

Trump drafts Stay At Home Child Care Policy

Trump Admin Drafts Policy to Fund Married Stay-at-Home Parents Instead of Paying Strangers to Raise Their Kids

The Trump administration is drafting a major change to federal child-care policy that could allow some married parents to receive government assistance for staying home to raise their own children.

The proposal, reportedly a priority for Vice President JD Vance, would use an existing federal program that has traditionally helped low-income families pay outside child-care providers.

Qualifying families could receive assistance worth roughly $9,000 per child annually. Under the draft, one married parent could stay home with the couple’s child while the other spouse works at least 35 hours per week.

Families would still have to meet applicable income requirements. The money would effectively recognize a parent caring for his or her own child as an eligible form of child care.

The proposal could therefore offer families another option beyond paying a day-care center or outside provider. Existing Funds Could Be Used. The administration is seeking to make the change through the existing Child Care and Development Fund rather than establishing an entirely new program.

Illinois Assisted Suicide Law

Cardinal Cupich, religious sisters, pharmacist sue Illinois over physician-assisted suicide law

The challenge comes weeks after another group of Catholic healthcare providers secured temporary protection from portions of Illinois' assisted-suicide law, which is scheduled to take effect Sept. 12.

The suit Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm v. Prince, filed by Becket, asks a federal court to block the End-of-Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act (EOLOA) before it takes effect Sept. 12. Along with Cardinal Cupich, the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm, the Little Sisters of the Poor, and Catholic pharmacist Luke Vander Bleek are the plaintiffs.

The Sisters and Bleek fulfill their ministries and work in the healthcare realm according to their Catholic beliefs, which affirms the dignity of human life from conception until natural death, according to Becket.

“I became a pharmacist because I wanted to help people heal, never to hasten their deaths,” Bleek, owner of Fitzgerald Pharmacy in Morrison, said in the release. “But now Illinois wants my pharmacy to dispense prescriptions for suicide in violation of my Catholic beliefs. The state shouldn’t force me to choose between serving my neighbors and following my conscience.”

In following their beliefs, the Catholic healthcare providers cannot prescribe or dispense deadly drugs, refer patients to obtain them, or facilitate a patient’s suicide. However, according to the release, the EOLOA “forces them to do exactly that.”

Mamdani pushing politically motivated targeting of small buinesses with Executive Order

Mayor Mamdani launches taxpayer-funded office to push unionization across New York City

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani signed an executive order creating a new city office dedicated to helping private-sector workers unionize, drawing sharp criticism from small-business advocates who say the government has no place tipping the scales.

The Mayor's Office of Worker Power, announced Monday, will hold hearings on workplace issues, draft policy proposals, distribute information about workers' rights, and connect employees directly with union-organizing groups.

Mamdani, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, tapped Tony Perlstein, a former dockworker, union organizer, and onetime deputy director of communications at the Center for Popular Democracy, a national left-wing organizing group, to run the operation. Perlstein will report to Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Su, who previously served as a cabinet official under President Joe Biden.

The office's budget has not been disclosed. City Hall has not said how many additional staff members will be hired beyond Perlstein. And the executive order's full text has not been published, leaving business owners and taxpayers with more questions than answers about how far the new office's reach will extend.
