🤡Jeffries dodges noncitizen voting question on live TV, pivots to accusing Republicans of voter suppression

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries dismissed New Jersey's disclosure that roughly 6,600 noncitizens were registered to vote as a "modest or minor" challenge, then quickly changed the subject to attacking Republicans.

CNN anchor Dana Bash pressed Jeffries on the issue during a Sunday appearance on "State of the Union," pointing to what she called one of the most significant disclosures of noncitizen registration on record.

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill, a Democrat, announced the previous week that a "serious software error" had registered approximately 6,600 noncitizens as voters between June 2023 and June 2024. Fewer than 400 of them actually cast ballots.

Bash's question was blunt: "Democrats have repeatedly said that non-citizen voting doesn't happen. It happened. Is this a problem?"

Jeffries did not say yes. He did not say no. He talked about confidence in state and local authorities, called the New Jersey situation a voluntary disclosure that was "immediately corrected," and then steered the conversation toward President Trump and the GOP.

Jeffries called 6,600 illegal registrations a "modest" problem, then blamed Republicans.
