Quote of the Day - Mark Parrilla

New inflammatory Comment Up

"It seems we have some truck drivers on the (Planning & Zoning) Board."

~ Mark Parrilla

William Waters, Director of Sustainability for Lake Worth said that he encourages Boards to display a variety of backgrounds. All of our Planning & Zoning members are qualified.

They are not rogues (an unprincipled, deceitful, and unreliable person; a scoundrel or rascal) as suggested by Vice Mayor Maxwell, a shocking suggestion and further from any truth. They have no pony in the race other than making the correct decisions per our Code and Comprehensive Plan.

By keeping the developers, planners, Realtors and land-use attorney types at a minimum, we are keeping self-interests from influencing the decisions that affect our city. This is now a true Board of all the residents of Lake Worth, the first time in years.

By saying that they(members of the planing board) are keeping realtors, developers, planners and land use attorneys at a minimum shows that they do have ponys in the race.Their decisions are like you said affecting all the residents of the city including those who are developers, planners, realtors and attorneys they all have a stake in this city. These are not evil people as you sometime make them out to be. They are the citizens of Lake Worth who chose the profession most suited to their liking, it is not the professions that come into question it's the people give a profession a bad name. Surely you cannot be suggesting that the citizens in these fields are all evil. Granted mistakes were made and will continue to be made.We do not live in a perfect world. There seems to be an agenda with the present group and it seems to be to your liking. However this does not make it fair and balanced.

Your opinion, certainly. But you would have had to have lived here to see the damage that former P&Z boards did. I am a licensed real estate broker. Does that make me qualified to be on the P&Z? By your terms, it does. If I had my own self-interests in mind and was still active in the real estate business, would it be advantageous to be on a P&Z board that made decisions that affected my wallet? Perhaps yes, perhaps not--it depends on how corrupt and self-serving I am. Of course not everyone in that sort of field is evil. When you have a board that consists primarily of those who make a living by development decisions, it could breed corruption.
As stated, all those on this P&Z are honest and hard-working with integrity and they do their homework. Everything that has come before them, they have made the project better for LW.

Looks like Mark insulted a lot of good folks last night. Oh well. He's on the right side of politics here, isn't he?

I will take our honest, well qualified "truck drivers" of todays P&Z over the growth whores of past P&Z's like Wes Blackmen,John Paxman,Lisa Maxwell, and Phil Spinelli ANY DAY!!! Phil Spinelli got sweet real estate deals for himself all over town . Like that 40,000 dollar parking lot WAY UNDER maket value, right Phil? Wes and the gang didn't think zoning laws applied to any of their friends. And boy, what a LOT of friends these past P&Z con men and women had! Town homes in the middle of the street. The Lucerene built WAY TOO close to our library bldg, and why is their no eastern view in the lucerene? ANY GROWTH WHORES out there want to speak up? Loretta Sharpe?Bo Allen,Tom Ramiccio, Nadine Burns, Any of you? How about the complete illegallity of the Gulf Stream deal? Promises were made to the crooked owner by our crooked past P&Z to not have ANY zoning requirements upheld! We'll never know how much money passed into under the table hands and campaign coffers.Wes and the afore mentioned gang where out to rape this city and screw it's neighborhoods in the process. Our neighborhoods, golf course, ballfields and Bryant Park were looked at not as public spaces, but as future money pots for thier developer sugar daddys to build on!Andy Amaroso and Scott Maxwell, you jerks have really screwed the pooch on this one!!! WE DON"T HAVE ANY WATER LEFT IN SOUTH FLORIDA,AZZHOLES!!Yet you two brainless paid off whores want to let your friends keep building here? We can't even water our lawns yet you two want to fuc$ up our water situation EVEN MORE?You two really are the complete bought and paid for morons that you looked like at Thursday nights witch hunt.

I think the current P & Z has done a very good job, much better than past boards. In my opinion, it works really well to have staff bring development plans forward that they have worked on with the planners and developers, then P & Z can push for the changes that need to be made in order for the project to reflect what the community wants. If the developer can't build something that we want, something that we won't regret for the next 50 years, then they can go build it somewhere else.
This board has produced the best "deliverables" of any board that I can remember. Thanks to the commissioners who are able to see this and support our community vision. This P&Z board gets it.
