Years ago, when dates wanted to impress me, they would take me to this fine French restaurant. To me, it was super expensive but afterall, I was a working gal--no, not that kind of working gal. There was NO price on the menu given to ladies. They were known for their sautéed frogs' legs, flavored lightly with garlic and sorrel, that was served on a bed of mushrooms and the signature rack of lamb, pink inside with its delicate crust of herbs."
"La Vieille Maison, building built in 1927, was known as the grand dame in fine dining. Nothing matched its ambiance. Waiters in tuxedos gave menus with prices only to gentlemen. Ladies never saw them. The gentlemen were required to wear jackets. Classical music played in the background, blending with the glow of candlelight.
It sold for $3.1 million back in 2006 and has laid dormant ever since.
The Prakas Group says Talbott Realty bought the 6,700-square-foot historic building on 36,000 square feet of land at 770 E. Palmetto Park Road, in Boca Raton. It remained empty and went to blight. It must have been caught up in the lousy economy because it was recently allowed to be bulldozed by the City of Boca.

How sad it is to read this. When I lived in Boca - it was near La Vielle Maison and I was lucky to have dined there many times. I knew Leonce Picot and equally enjoyed one of his two restaurants in Ft. Lauderdale - Casa Vecchia. Both of them are now torn down, but I shall always remember them with fond memories of exemplary dining experiences.
