Now that Steven Michael has been floating around our city for over a year, purchasing the Gulfstream Hotel and promising to renovate it and now has his eyes on our beach, here is a brief introduction.

A hedge Fund is a limited partnership of investors that uses high risk methods, such as investing with borrowed money, in hopes of realizing large capital gains. (He says he plans on taking out a mortgage at the beach). U.S. laws require that hedge fund investors be “accredited,” which means they must earn a minimum annual income, have a net worth of more than $1 million, and possess significant investment knowledge.

Mr. Michael states that he is a licensed real estate broker. Perhaps he is but I couldn't find evidence of it.  Either he is licensed under a different name or he is licensed in another state.

His Gulfstream Hotel had a lien against it dated March 30, 2015. I have since found it is closed and he paid the administrative costs:

Iran will be guarding the hen house

VIENNA (AP) -- Iran will be allowed to use its own inspectors to investigate a site it has been accused of using to develop nuclear arms, operating under a secret agreement with the U.N. agency that normally carries out such work, according to a document seen by The Associated Press.

Read this incredible story... at WND--“It’s incredible how few people know the facts about the Federal Reserve. The organization chaired by Ben Bernanke [now Janet Yellen] is not ‘Federal’ – it is instead a cabal of private and international banks that does not answer to the United States government...For those who have made a serious inquiry, the Federal Reserve is shadowed in deceptive origins and fraudulent policies.”

Sanctuary City

The Homeless

Comment Up

There were only two highlights at Tuesday night's meeting and they occurred during public commentary. The first one was when Peter Timm asked the commission if there still was anyone on the dais who believed that the beach was in the red. Scott Maxwell raised his hand, the whole time smiling.

The second "highlight" is talked about below. It was rather stunning to say the least. It shows the mentality of people today who believe that the government owes them, and one speaker even gave a veiled threat if Lake Worth doesn't comply.

There is so much homelessness across our country. The entrenched poverty is so visible in public spaces everywhere. I can't put my finger on why it is growing. Is it drugs? Is it alcohol? Mental illness? All of those?  Is it that rental housing is just too expensive and jobs are scarce...a catch 22 situation as you need an address to have a job unless you're being picked up for day labor. Is it a life-style that some of them actually want? And then you ask yourself, "Who would want that" although I am judging my answer from my own standards.

Cities are cracking down on it and even Lake Worth is trying to do the same as mentioned by a homeless advocate, Ryan Hartman, and one other gentleman at Tuesday night's meeting. They have been told that the homeless are being given a hard-time (harassed) by PBSO in Bryant Park especially over the past few months--getting tickets for loitering and sleeping. They believe that it is because we, meaning the city, want to open the Gulfstream Hotel not realizing that we don't own the hotel. The homeless have been living in it for quite some time. Did the City ask PBSO to crack down harder because of Hudson Holdings?

One guy firmly believes it is the city's responsibility to provide aid to them with services such as water, bathrooms, etc. and said that the City was capping off the drinking fountains. He then proceeded to call our laws "crazy" and asked the commission if they knew what happened in Ft. Lauderdale when they did the same thing? He warned the commission that there would be as much push-back here as there was in Ft. Lauderdale that got national attention if they continued treating the homeless in this fashion.

I have always thought that the reason why more are coming here is that we haven't been tough enough. It's just another problem that has gotten out of hand. We needed to act sooner on halting the migration of homeless people to our city by enacting laws like Sacramento has as an example. They have just criminalized “possession of camping paraphernalia,” another name for carrying around your meager possessions. Some cities are making it illegal to sit or lie on a sidewalk. Here in Lake Worth, they sleep on our city benches.

Now the Department of Justice has thrown everyone a curve-ball and has weighed in. They say that sleeping is a life sustaining activity and if a person literally has nowhere else to go, then enforcement of the anti-camping ordinance against that person criminalizes him for being homeless. According to the DOJ, this is against the 8th Amendment as cruel and unusual punishment.

So what can we do? Will the Federal government help now that they have made it impossible for cities to stop the influx and stop the homeless from sleeping on and taking over city property, not to mention other crimes committed by them. We have a nice big park right on the Intracoastal Waterway that is occupied by the homeless as well as illegals.

Gary Nikolits gives his Good, Bad & Ugly Tax Report

Comment Up

Yesterday, Gary Nikolits, out-going property appraiser, gave his "Good, Bad and Ugly" report to the Economic Forum of Palm Beach County.

The winner?  Palm Beach County for raising taxes by $87 million especially since it has raised taxes by $185 million over the past three years. A few entities were in the "good" category for not raising taxes or going to the roll-back rate but Lake Worth was not among them.  Lake Worth was in the "Bad" category.

Hudson Holdings Blitzing Store Fronts

Comment Up

These poor store owners at the Lake Worth Casino didn't know what hit them when a guy came around distributing Hudson Holdings window posters. One store manager said that the young man said he was with the City of Lake Worth so he put it in his window wanting to be compatible. Another store had no clue what it meant. Little did they know the were being asked to possibly bite off their nose in spite of their face. Other flyers have been distributed in the downtown as Hudson is promoting its asset grab.

Re-Districting - Frankel and Deutch Districts

State Sen. Jeff Clemens, D-Lake Worth couldn't do it but give him an A for trying to keep congressional districts 21 and 22 running parallel to each other along eastern Broward and Palm Beach counties. The Republican argument was too big saying that it lowered to 48 percent the black voting age population of nearby District 20, a minority district subject to the Voting Rights Act.

Save old Boynton Beach High School

Letters to the Editor
Palm Beach Post
August 19, 2015

Post wrong on Boynton’s 1927 high school: Save it, don’t demolish it -

I read with disbelief your editorial “1927 school, 2013 reality” about the old Boynton Beach high school, in which you strongly suggested that demolition would have to be an option if the city commission rejected the financing plan for the latest proposal. I found it even more difficult to accept after you mentioned other important structures such as the Harriet Himmel Theater and the 1916 courthouse that were saved in Palm Beach County against similarly difficult odds.

Even the rebuilt casino is, with the Cultural Council office and other community redevelopment agency projects, turning Lake Worth into a great town again, anchored by its history. Why can’t Boynton Beach be like Lake Worth or Delray Beach? Why must we tear down one of the three great historic buildings downtown? Because of a poorly conceived and expensive plan that would have ruined the historic character of the old high school and compromised the historic setting of the old elementary school/children’s museum?

This building is solid, with an easily reusable floor plan and a unique combination of early 1920s Mediterranean revival architecture and a touch of later 1920s Art Deco. This building could anchor the east side of Ocean Avenue by becoming part of a municipal or mixed-use project. Imagine an art center with facilities for seniors and children next door. Imagine it as part of a new city hall complex with the upper-floor gym restored and reused as the city commission chambers. Imagine the former classrooms on both floors available for retail, a coffee shop and community rooms

What potential there is for Boynton Beach to dream big with its new leadership. Instead, our community paper said, “Tear it down; it’s useless.” We should be saying: “Let’s do the most sustainable thing possible. Let’s reuse it and activate our rejuvenating downtown for the pride and joy of all our residents and visitors, and for future generations who would see this accomplishment and also learn about the early history of a great city in Palm Beach County. Let’s have a conversation with the community and not suggest demolition at this time.”

Rich foreign investors with green cards running amok?

EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program

USCIS administers the EB-5 Program. Under this program, entrepreneurs (and their spouses and unmarried children under 21) are eligible to apply for a green card (permanent residence) if they:
  • Make the necessary investment in a commercial enterprise in the United States; and
  • Plan to create or preserve 10 permanent full-time jobs for qualified U.S. workers.
This program is known as EB-5 for the name of the employment-based fifth preference visa that participants receive.

Congress created the EB-5 Program in 1990 to stimulate the U.S. economy through job creation and capital investment by foreign investors. In 1992, Congress created the Immigrant Investor Program, also known as the Regional Center Program. This sets aside EB-5 visas for participants who invest in commercial enterprises associated with regional centers approved by USCIS based on proposals for promoting economic growth.

On its face, this sound great for the United States. But a new article out today by Sunshine State News says Rich foreign investors running amok

Judge blasts being 'required' to dismiss Arpaio case

The Appeals Court unanimously gave Sheriff Joe Arpaio the thumbs down, but one judge is saying she was forced to rule against the lawman seeking relief from Obama's open-borders policy, and she's calling for a change in the law.

We have a few open border people living in Lake Worth, some of whom I like on a one-to-one basis but they advocate for the very same thing. Their politics is also dangerous to the health and welfare of this great country.

You have to read this one. This is what is going on in America. Talk about change? We need it, desperately. Vote in a conservative Republican next November.

U.S. Rep Ted Deutch has Town Hall Meeting

Quote of the Day - Pam Geller - Obama Treachery

“This is just the latest attempt to demonize and marginalize those who dare to speak the truth about jihad violence, and to further the administration’s dangerous fantasies about Islam being a ‘religion of peace’ that is lied about by hatemongers, rather than a religion of violence that is inciting violence and hatred worldwide.

This is further proof of Obama’s perfidy and treachery. The FBI is targeting those who oppose jihad terror. America is woefully unprepared for the horror of what’s coming.”

Common Ground Church will be Moving

Comment Up

Common Ground Church is still praying for folks--praying for the City of Lake Worth and a few special people who have been less than kind towards them or towards others.  We can all fit into one or two of those categories from time to time.  Hopefully we all will soon see the light and feel the love, not hate.

Hudson Holdings has a crude fan

Comment Up

Now and then I get a lot of BS from some people in this city...usually it is the self-serving ones or those trying to grab an asset or two and who are aligned with developers. This is the latest comment:

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Hudson Holdings just won't Quit":

As usual you are making your assumptions, and leading everyone towards the LIES. Until you hear what is said IN YOUR MIND it must be bad for EVERYONE. Do EVERYONE a favor and just GO AWAY. I do not know anyone that as is HEARTLESS< MEAN< OR ANGRY as you. My question is did you not get enough when you where younger?????????????????????????

...............
Of course, they accuse me of lying but never identify the lie. They are always anonymous cowards. Then they get into personal, ugly attacks. If you don't agree with them, you are vile, old, fat or whatever other insulting comment they can dream up. You can't have a different opinion--oh no. It all shows how desperate they are.

The truth of the matter is, we just redeveloped our beach and spent $13 million dollars. Why should we hand it over to Hudson Holdings on a long-term lease that could be up to 99 years? Didn't we just get rid of Greater Bay a few years back that wanted to do the same thing? Don't new city managers ever understand history, the charettes we had back then and what the people wanted? Do you honestly feel that the tide has changed in just a few short years because no one knows how to manage anything?

So, is the poster above on Hudson Holding's payroll like John Szerdi who lost his election on this issue and Wes Blackman who now admits working for Hudson or will he/she benefit from Hudson in some way?
