The "Trumpapalooza" - Republican Mid-Term Convention

Trump announces first-ever Republican midterm convention in Dallas

President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced the Republican Party will hold a two-day midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, on September 9, 10, an event he and the Republican National Committee describe as the first of its kind in American political history.

The move represents an unprecedented effort to rally GOP voters and protect slim congressional majorities ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, a cycle that historically punishes the party holding the White House.

Trump made the announcement in a Truth Social post, calling Dallas "one of my favorite places in the World" and framing the convention as a celebration of what he termed the "Great American Comeback."
"For the first time ever, the Republican Party will hold a MIDTERM CONVENTION. It will be in Dallas, Texas, One of my favorite places in the World. It will be fantastic! It has never been done before, and will be a truly Historic Event."
Neither major party has held a national convention outside of a presidential election cycle in modern times, making this a deliberate break from standard political practice. The RNC laid the groundwork months ago.

AP News reported that the committee amended its procedures at its January winter meeting to allow the chair to convene a convention during a midterm year, a procedural change that now appears to have been designed with exactly this event in mind.

RNC Chair Joe Gruters wasted no time endorsing the plan, calling it a "Trumpapalooza" and casting the president as the party's greatest asset heading into a difficult election cycle.
