Frank McAlonan - Candidate for Lake Worth Commissioner District 3

Comment Up

Frank has lived in Palm Beach County for 30 years. He grew up near the water with a love for the ocean breeze and sandy beaches. He and his wife moved to Lake Worth to live near the Atlantic and experience the charm of the city.

Frank has a background of resolving problems for South Florida home buyers--from buying and selling homes, to financing and to insuring the integrity of the property. For the past decade, he has worked with multiple national underwriters and has a proficient undertaking of the real estate and development business.

Frank graduated with a degree in Human Resources Development from the University of Florida.  His experience as a collegiate athlete taught Frank the importance of teamwork, a value that will serve him well in representing the people of Lake Worth.

Today, Frank cycles regularly, both for fitness and in support of local non-profit organizations.  He participates in Bike MS every year, an event that aims to find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis.  He has also served on a committee for Loop the Lake Literacy, a more than 100-mile ride that raises money to promote literacy in our county.

Hartman's closing statement was great. Mcalonan's could have been stronger but he did a good job.

I was at the NAPC presentation. Frank McAlonan did not represent his position well. I did not get the impression that he knows much about Lake Worth. He kept talking about supporting Veterans but then it turned out that his father was responsible for that support - not Frank. He kept talking about "Critical Thinking" - without defining what he means (if he were to be elected, how would we know whether he - or any other member of the city commission - was engaging in "critical thinking". Unfortunately, Frank did not show by providing discrete examples how he would be better than Amoroso - just that he would be a "critical thinker". Frank, please provide specifics - no hand-waving and pie-in-the-sky feel-good statements.

As the debates/forums continue, I am rather sure that Frank will be stronger but he did quite well I thought. They only had 1 or 2 minutes to speak to a question.

At least he did NOT lie and that's a big positive in my book.

He has my vote right now over Andy! We really have to break up the gang of 3 if we are to have any say in our town--and retain our beach.
I was very impressed that all the new candidates want to keep our beach and LISTEN to the people of Lake Worth. That's a refreshing breath of fresh air. I did notice as well that a good deal of the questions were obviously slanted to give the advantage to the incumbents. I was very impressed with Ryan Hartman and Diane Jacques as well. The format went very well, aside from one group who chose to stand right behind us yelling. It was a good turnout which is great, because this election will determine whether we retain our character as Lake Worth, or sell our souls to developers.

Wait a minute... Didn't Frank say that Andy had sign an agreement to put high rises on the waterfront or beach? I gotta go back and listen to it...

But what he said... that's not even true!!!

I want to know more about his 6 months as a resident of LW, he did say he hadn't been to any neighborhood association meeting but intended to die so in the future.

The only strong thing I heard was his daddy working hard to get the Veterans Day parade on track again... He had to mention that twice.

Curiously, all the challengers are supportive of the now defeated bond referendum to fix infrastructure. Maybe it's time to resurrect the bond beacuae everyone is finally realizing that after 100+ years of neglect to infrastructure that we need to fix the streets, pipes, drains, etc... And that costs a lot of $$$ and the only way to do that is to plan and budget for it. Eventually, we will need a bond to get it all done.

Lynn Anderson said...

Bringing up the defeated general obligation bond with any possibility of resurrecting it was not well thought out. What I think they should have said was studying/analyzing our finances and coming up with a solution to fix our roads.

As we all can see, we are finding the money to do much of what this commission wanted to do after they stole the cash for 34 years with a final payout of $131 million! OUTRAGEOUS.

The waterfront comment was meant for the Gulfstream Hotel. At least that's the way i took it. Andy did vote in that ordinance allowing 65 feet.

Go Andy!!!

Stole what cash for 34 years? What final payout for $131 million? all the current commissioners weren't even on he commission then?

You cookoo lady

Actually he did say at least 2 mis-truths that come to my memory from last night. One, accusing Commissioner Amoroso of voting to put high rises on the beach. Nothing ever came before the commission to even consider any kind of vote except to close the ITN process(which was about the POOL not the beach). Andy never supported the Hudson plan but you conveniently forget that point of fact. The 2nd mis-truth was Frank brought the Veterans Day parade back or was it is Dad (he said both). In fact, Commissioner Amoroso was instrumental in securing the funding and handling the logistics to make it happen. I was really disappointed in the caliber of opponents last night.

Yea he did, and only in the 12 block area on the master plan slated as the hotel district.

But it ain't on the water!

Was he trying to confuse people same as the rumor about condos going up on the golf course.

!11:59--you sure are one of the most UNINFORMED people who has come on this blog in a very long time. No name calling...try being respectful and hey, DO YOUR RESEARCH. It just shows that uninformed voters are attracted to the trio.

Carlos said...

Amoroso claimed that listening was important to him and and one of his strengths.

I guess listening to him means putting cotton in his ears and shooting his mouth off about his position and how and why it's right.

Frank McAlonan has my vote for his articulate presentation and obvious care for the interests of Lake Worth's citizens.

Lynn Anderson said...

And what I should have said, "wanted to GRAB the cash for 34 years. Luckily we defeated their cash grab.

Anonymous said...

You still didn't identify the cash being stole for 34 years. Or what the $131m is all about.

Your arguments sound a lot like 'Shock and Awe' the beloved and wise Pres Bush proclaimed... Given the dribble and drool from your droning on and on, please enlighten us with facts that can be corroborated and not mere fiction.

Perhaps you can provide me and other, not so long I the tooth residents with some historically correct details so we can make an informed decision.

Certain people have always suggested that the city sell off half the golf course. Of course that can't be done as it is deed restricted.

Lynn Anderson said...

@12:13--don't you have any facts on the general obligation bond and the reason why the then finance director got fired. He told the truth on the payout of that $63 million. Do your research. I have written about it extensively.

If you continue to come over here and be nasty, your posts will be deleted. Thanks.

We all realize the roads need work. What the majority of folks I spoke with re the bond at that time felt--was that they did not trust this majority commission to be responsible with that much money. As it is 1/3 of our taxes go to their pet project the POC. Didn't anyone else notice the recent firing of a very well qualified finance director--because he had the audacity to state that the beach was in the black before Scott Maxwell added extra expenses. And, of course, they got some sort of wonderful award for this conduct--(!) Where was that purchased I wonder?

The bio that you wrote seems to be an indirect way of saying he's either a realtor and/or real estate investor/flipper. I don't think we need any more of those on the commission and I know you've expressed your distrust of the real estate people.

Lynn Anderson said...

Number one, he wrote his bio. Number two, nowhere does it say he is a Realtor. Next, nowhere does it say he is an investor/flipper. And three, I have distrust of those greedy people who are lining their pockets at the expense of supporting certain issues within this city. It is always the same greedy group. I am a licensed real estate broker salesman in Florida. What we do need on this commission is someone who respects and will listen to the people. Not too much to ask, anonymous at 9:04. False assumptions get us nowhere.

I think most people in this City are in favor of fixing our roads and infrastructure, the reason it was voted down was b/c it was way too big, the debt load would have lasted forever, only a small % of property owners would have had to pay for it and there would be no cap for those property owners. So you could lose your home even if homesteaded, the risk was way too high. I think many who voted against the bond would be in favor of a smaller proposal or a proposal that taxed everyone.

According to the Floida Dept of Business and Professionl Regilation, Frank currently holds an 'active' Florida Real Estate Sales license, and it is currently hung with Paradise Properties of Florida. This license is associated with several Title Companies.

Due to the expense in keeping ones license 'active' there can only be two conclusions drawn 1) He is currently involved in conducting some agency representation position in real estate sales transactions which the state regulates and requires a licensee to hold or 2) he enjoys spending several thousand dollars a year maintaining his license and membership in the RAPB (Realtors Association of Palm Beach) appearing to be an active agent and engaged in RE transactions and the membership in the MLS (Multiple Listing Service) to actively tap into the data provided there for his own information or use as an investor.

So why was that fact omitted from his bio?

Lynn Anderson said...

@1:46...no conspiracy here...he only had 200 words that he could submit to the NAPC.
I know he has a real estate license but I have zero knowledge that he is a REALTOR. If you know that, then you know more than I.

Anonymous said...

He is a currently a Realtor member of the RAPB which requires you to be a member in good standings (and dues paid) with the Florida Association of Realtors as well as the RAPB and the MLS.

Additionally, while I agree he had 2 minutes for his intro... "I'm a Realtor" are three little words that take under 2 seconds to utter.

Really Lynn... You should know better, even if your Broker license is 'current, and inactive'.

At least there are currently no complaints against his license.

And from your own post at 9:31, you're right, no where did he disclose his Realtor status... And that is a red flag... Especially when he publically stated he's in he people helping business... This is code for predatory lending, distressed property accumulation, refinancing of problem or underwater properties or outright 'saving' people by swooping in and relieving them of their properties at bargain prices so they get out of the debt load that burdens them. He license has several links to Title and lending companies as a principal or manager. (Search Sunbiz)

He first was licensed on 10/29/2004, license number SL3100822 and it will expire 9/30/2016 unless he completes the required education and pay his fees.

So he was totally involved in the ra ra run up days of the market and then continued to follow it as the market crashed, and by all appearances to those who know where to look, that he still profits from 'helping' people thru real estate transactions.

Hmmm...I do my homework, so should all voters.

Lynn Anderson said...

Well, I would guess that half your friends are in the real estate business...SO? Check with Loretta Sharp on this or the vice mayor.
I have no interest in investigating him. Obviously, you do. Good luck. He is in a profession and is licensed.

Anonymous said...

So let me get this straight Anonymous 4:17.You want more development in Lake Worth but your suspicious because a candidate didn't mention his active Real Estate license on his three paragraph biography. He also forgot to mention his boxer or brief preference.

"Frank has a background of resolving problems for South Florida home buyers--from buying and selling homes, to financing and to insuring the integrity of the property. Sounds like a background as realtor and title agent. His secret identity is slowly being revealed!Turns out this guy is employed and has some relevant knowledge about Florida property and value (shutter the thought). Gosh, I hope this evil madman doesn't use his powers to improve the city! His background in real estate (should it prove to be true) might just give him the perspective to appreciate the unique charm of the city he chose to live in.

It may even scandalously allow him to acutely weigh the innumerable factors in developing a well though-out position on business development while maintaining the city's charm. Goodness gracious, he may actually balance these interests and come to a well balanced resolution that would benefit the citizens of Lake Worth. I certainly hope he doesn't use that vague "critical thinking" he made referenced to at the debate. Whatever critical thinking means, it sounds very scary.

Anonymous said...

No, the point I'm making is there's all this talk about transparency. And the fact of the matter is everyone's lives are complicated and for whatever reason, he chose to not mention it. Ok fine.

It just a bit unsettling and really doesn't bode well when you've just moved into the city six months ago, haven't been to any neighborhood association meetings, and so I don't know how he's had time to ask the three things he looks for in an elected official, 1) listen to people,2) ask a lot of qiestions, 3) give each issue critical thought of all the people in LW. Or are there just a few (even developer) birds chirping in his ears. Hmmm...

He seems like a nice enough fellow, but what you doing your profession should be open knowledge if you're running for elected office.

Look at Andy, there are people who think items he stocks in his store should not be for sale. That's right, they think it's their God-given right to spew their opinion and they want to infringe on your first amendment right because they think a couple of adult toys is rather unsavory. OK it's a free country and you don't have to buy that kind of stuff, just shuffle off...

Andy makes no apology for being an openly gay man nor should he. He's worked his ass off for the last 4 years. When I drop in to see him or when I've called him he's been responsive, cutting through the crap and getting things done, he's all over the place in the city and volunteering a lot of his time in all the cleanups, sits on a lot of important funding resource we so desperately need, he's really put in the time and effort and has demonstrated the critical thinking necessary for the job.

To Frank, I welcome you to the Ciy of Lake Worth and invite you to actively participate, and grow passionate about your neighborhood(s) - 'cause that's one of the things that's makes us so special.

He moved here in July 2014 I believe.

Anonymous said...

Well which is it? He oublicallybstated he moved here last July - that would be 2015.

How could he forget he moved here a year and a half ago?

And if he has lived here since July 2014, then now what is the excuse for not ever going to a neighborhood association meeting? Or how about a neighnorhood cleanup? And if so concerned about service as an elected, why hasn't he ever volunteered for a board, street painting festival, raft race? He's been the inexcusable invisible man.

He didn't forget a thing. He has a strange schedule and works many evenings.
