More on Lake Worth Heights

 Comment Up

The Palm Beach Post editor is getting closer but close only counts in "Horseshoes." Mr. Marra used Lake Worth's city attorney's line of "blame state legislators." The blame is clearly the city attorney's legal OPINION that was given to this commission.

We still contend that this referendum was not on a comp plan change, development orders or comp plan map changes but it was a CHARTER change. Mr. Marra's prejudice in this matter is clearly shown because he advocated for higher buildings in our downtown in a previous editorial. Mr. Marra, you do know that this affects the entire downtown from Dixie highway to Golfview Road and not just the Gulfstream hotel area east of Federal Highway as you claim in your editorial don't you?

Read the editorial in the Palm Beach post.

Bottom line, The majority of voters in Lake Worth DO NOT want heights over 45 feet in our down town area. The Commission did not have to vote in 65 feet heights. They COULD HAVE chosen to honor the will of the majority voters in Lake Worth. They did not. By voting to put 45 feet into the LDR's they would NOT HAVE BEEN BREAKING ANY LAWS! By their actions they sent the voters of Lake Worth a VERY CLEAR message
" We don't care about what you voters want. Screw you. "
I hope that the majority of voters in Lake Worth send Pam Triolo ,Scott Maxwell, Andy Amoroso and John Szerdi that very same message the next time they run for office.

Geez, if only an investor was on the horizon. but you are suing to prevent a pipe dream. Do you really think this is a city of quaint Key West style cottages with people dying to visit. Or is this a city of poor people not wanting to spend one more nickel on taxes or assessments.

Excuse me, but isn't it you that contends there is no difference in the areas East and West of Federal? You conveniently shift the argument back to your skewed idea of downtown.

It is you that doesn't acknowledge, even though you know, that the LDR's can NOT be overridden by a vote of three from the dias.

It is you that does not acknowledge, even though you know, that the LDR's coupled with our comprehensive plan go further to protect our neighborhoods than any commission threesome could ever change.

When you try to fan the flames of discontent for those who were lied to to sign the petition that did nothing to protect THEIR neighborhood but only focused on a small sliver and your refusal to compromise even on that small sliver, you do a disservice to the thinking people who are willing to listen to reason.

Your comments implying that "they" think they are smarter or better than "us" is not only off the mark but shows that this has become so personal for you. Your own crusade.

Andrew Marra is "just another idiot who thinks he is smarter than us". NO! He is able to look at both sides and make his own opinion. And like mine, it's different than yours. There is no reasoning with you.

In answer to the above anonymous post--

para 1--NO. The area from Dixie to Golfview will now be 65 feet if the LDR's and the comp Plan is allowed to be changed by this commish.

para 2--the comp Plan can be changed from the dais on a 3 to 2 vote.

para 3--False

para 4--No one was lied to by volunteers from RPPAC. They concentrated on the downtown only--that was purposely done..their attorney drew up the language that Commish Szerdi was so "confused" about and still is.

para 5--does it prove it is personal? Did I really use incorrect English like that? think they are smarter or better than "us" Gosh,I'm slipping. Well, if you say so. Whatever I say will not change your mind about that. If the will of the vote does not count here, than someone is definitely smarter than I or the attorney who will litigate.

para 6--Andrew Marra has an OPINION, just like Glen Torcivia and just like you and just like I do. Looking at the law is what matters here.

"Do you really think this is a city of quaint Key West style cottages with people dying to visit." YES! We have BIG OPEN SKY'S, quaintness and we most definitely have style. Naples is one other beach town with height restrictions and I KNOW many from the "let's build it" supporters really love the quaintness of Naples. We could be a music capital with all our wonderful venues and a local foods hub and example!! Come on "officials" lets get some CREATIVE marketing happening here!!! Let's think outside THE BOX people and start marketing this place for what it IS not what it is NOT!!!

11:35 Are you kidding me. Naples is everything we are not. So you consider our blighted neighborhoods quaint. Alot of the big open sky, whatever that meant, is really thru the roofs of abandoned buildings. Name one wonderful venue with good music, which would make us a music capital. Might not hotels in our hotel district draw tourists. Did you miss the Ritz, Reserve and Naples Beach Hotel, just as you missed our crumbling cottages.

at the least you @ 11:35 need glasses and a hearing aid.

Does a potential hotel developer exert an undue influence on any or all of the four the Commissioners who are hell bent on raising the heights east of Federal in our downtown?
In West Palm Beach the potential hotel developers for the old city hall site are willing to pay millions more for the land if they are allowed an extra story or two.
Is someone offering our elected officials something to get the extra stories in Lake Worth?

Yes you are right - Naples is not like us. I feel while the City is charming in it's own right (especially because of it's height restriction) it is much too restrained in its style for me. Oh and YES - by definition alone quaint:
adjective -
attractively unusual or old-fashioned:
we in Lake Worth are most definitely "quaint". Where you see blight I see potential for historic preservation. You see abandoned buildings and I see buildings put up by our last "let's build it fiasco" which are now struggling to achieve full occupancy. You say, "Name one wonderful venue with good music...". I say The Bam Boo Room Blues (are you for real?) I challenge you all to use some imagination with marketing to re-purpose our quaint beach town with a BIG OPEN SKY!!

3:15, check out mess of the week, is that attractively unusual and ready for historic preservation. it seems that less restrictive to you means blight is o.k.
