Whose picture is this and where on the wall does it belong? I'm surprised that you haven't commented on the smear campaign lead by a former commissioner, now P & Z member against Allen West.
That's funny. I'm sooooooooooo scared of Cara Jennings it ain't funny. So is Col. Allen West.
Anyone who is anti-government and is an anarchist would not like a patriot like Allen West. Liberal, left winged Democrats don't like him either. They all are into entitlements--free this and free that and want to run up the national debt even more than the $15 plus trillion it's at right now.
I dedicate the photo to all those commissioners who were phony right up to the firing of Ms. Stanton.
why all the sour grapes. get over it. things cant go your way ALL the time. lets see what the new admin can do, if they screw up....then you can start pointing fingers.
If anything, Stanton was the piranha, she just ate people up alive and then wanted to tax and assess us to hell, she wanted to control the comm and not allow the citizens or elected officials to think, SHE was the piranha Lynn. I applaud the commission for taking the steps to dismiss her, she did a lot of damage as a CM to the public perception of leadership. You know Andy and Pam dealt with her for many months/years prior to being elected and taking office, they knew how she was and realized that she wasn't changing and they took the oath to serve the people and gets things done. I am so happy that piranha Stanton is gone, we could not continue to allow her to control and manipulative, give her attitude, and treat the citizens like crap, we now need to move on and focus on healing and continuing to move this city forward, we have a great city here, one of the best in South Florida let's keep swimming up stream. Adios Stanton!
That's funny. Pam and Andy dealt with her for many years you say. Prior to this election no one ever saw nor did they hear of Pam. She never even came to our neighborhood association meetings. All Andy did as far as city hall was sit on a board that spent money like it was going out of style. He is all for business and none of his decisions on the cra were worth a crap unless you consider giving away millions.
6:28 pm - I is not about getting one's way. It is about what is in the best interest OF THE CITY not any one individual who happens to have an attitude - and a nasty one at that!
Anon 8:21 pm Oh, but we can continue to allow Maxwell 'to control and manipulate, give his attitude, and treat the staff and citizens like crap'? Right?
Yes, is one any better than the other? Maybe they are both piranhas. The politicians vs. the CM, I don't support either of them and their power grabs and manipulation. One is just as bad as the other folks.
As is customary in forum's, you all seem to miss the true reason the CM was dismissed in this manner. You can all blame McVoy for the CM's demise, and here is why.
Act 1 occurred when McVoy became proactive and rallied his troops to storm the chambers with the promise that Maxwell was about to fire the CM. That was two weeks ago.
Act 2 occurred on that same night when the new Mayor acted so weakly and refused to address McVoy's letter full of lies. Immediately after that meeting much was said about the weakness displayed by both the Mayor and Amoroso by the very people who elected them to change the direction of the city. This blowback from the electorate to the Mayor and Amoroso ultimately pressured both to act. Had McVoy not released his letter full of lies, Stanton would still be the CM.
Act 3 occurred last Tuesday. Scott brought up the motion as he was, and is, thoroughly convinced that the CM is poison for the community. But instead of acting through good faith and providing the with CM additional time, the new Mayor and the new Commissioner, because of McVoy's stupid act, were given no choice but to prove that they were strong leaders and were left with no recourse but to show their constituents that they did, in fact, wish to change the direction of the community. The CM then became a victum of McVoy's play to his base. Had McVoy not been so amazingly stupid, the CM would still occupy her office.
So all you followers of Lynn and the remainder of the anarchists and progressives, learn to place blame where blames is actually deserved. And please take your heads out of your butts and get behind the new commission to move the city forward.
Thanks for a great piece of fiction. It's always the "other" guy's fault isn't it?. That is just such a simple excuse to be prissy non-leaders. Mcvoy is smarter than you give him credit for and the new commission is certainly more stupid than most give them credit for.
What is "MOVING THE CITY FORWARD?" I thought that is what we have been doing.
Please, please, please explain this nonsense. You keep saying this and no one knows what in the hell you are talking about.
Move it forward to????????????????? Perhaps it means just accept the bullying from the dais? Accept Maxwell for all his antics, the very same ones that he has accused the city mgr of doing?
Please list all the "going forward" stuff. Thank you very much.
Maxwell has wanted her fired from before he was even commissioner. He has been totally obsessed and can't stand her. He has done nothing but give her a hard time for two years. It's not cute. It is rude. Blame is put on Maxwell, Triolo and Amoroso, the latter two for deceiving the electorate on how they would treat the city mgr. At least Maxwell has always been honest in this regard. It is pretty sick of people being gleeful that our city manager was fired. Very sick indeed.
And as said above, put the blame where it really belongs. McVoy called it right.
P.S. Don't even put me in the same category as anarchists. Not even close buddy. Just shows how much you don't know.
P.P.S. Don't bother coming over here and insulting me. Take it where the sun don't shine. I believe you used the word "butt." And that is about as "forward" as I will get.
He listed several points that had not been discussed her.
Lynn, you were asked to run a poll on your blog asking whether SS should have been let go. It was opined that 75% would agree with the decision. I was hoping you'd take them up on the idea. When you didn't, I felt it showed that you might find out that the firing was much more popular that you think.
True, it's your blog and you can do what ever you want, but since this blog leans somewhat in your direction but with many readers, you might get a sense of how the "people" feel.
"Please list all the "going forward" stuff. Thank you very much." As far as "forward" goes, there is a list of words and phrases populating facebook on a page called Lake Worth Voice that pretty much splains what's forward and another list of words and phrases that splain why SS is now in the market for a job.
In your piece above, you opine how Maxwell is doing the same thing the city manager did. "Accept Maxwell for all his antics, the very same ones that he has accused the city mgr of doing?" If you agree with him, you call that fighting fire with fire. If you don't agree with him, how do you defend the city manager using the same tactics for much of the three years she had managed the city?
First of all, someone did suggest a poll. However, with the mean-spiritness of certain citizens right now, a poll and its results would be meaningless...a stacked deck just to show me they are right and I am wrong?
Most people in this city have never met the city manager. They do not know if she was doing a good job, a great job, a poor job or not. They don't know that Maxwell had a personal problem where she was concerned. It is only a handful of people who gave her grief all of the time.
She had to make very unpopular decisions. She had to put up with bad attitudes not only from Maxwell but from some of the public. When she did something for which I disagreed, I wrote about it. Nothing was soft soaped here but in the same token, I did not hold any personal grudge; I did not try to bring her down or get her fired. Extreme behavior on boths sides of politics here is not admirable.
As far as this blog being read by those who agree with me a little more than those who do not, I have readers on both sides of poltiics. I have friends who vehmently disagree with me espcially on Susan Stanton. These are people reacting on emotions rather than what is best for our city. Actually, I believe that I have readers who are conservatives such as myself and anarchists too. I hear from both from time to time. The ones who are the most unpleasant are the ones behind what Maxwell did.
I have read the Facebook page and everyone can have fun with it but truthfully, it is full of the same people who complain a lot in this city. Facebook is NOT my thing. I am way too busy but I do check out the local blogs and I find that sometimes I agree with them--their style is different and often times their hard core beliefs. Mary Lindsey is a hell of a writer and funny too...love her humor.
There is a place for all of us here and I trust and hope that things WILL get better than this last decison made by this new commission that was heavy handed and not transparent. No one ever asked me what I thought, so I have written about it. I believe that this is all politics and there will always be a story to write...ALWAYS.
To begin, the poster at 8:37 on the 10th was both insightful, and possibly even prescient, in his/her time line regarding the events leading up to the termination and the possible outcome of the second commission meeting, whereby the CM was actually terminated.
Any objective spectator would come to a similar conclusion and single out McVoy as primary perpetrator of the CM's termination. His show of force at the initial commission meeting set the tone for the upcoming meeting, and his ignorance (stupidity if you will) of personal behavior helped to cement the outcome of Maxwell's motion. While McVoy may possess the highest intellect on the dais, which I sincerely doubt, his need to display force could easily place him in the posters "Stupid" category. Had he truly wished to keep the CM, he would have laid low with the other anarchists and permitted the CM to prove herself to the new commission. But he did not, and the outcome then became predictable.
This could be a good forum if it were not for answers like those at 8:51 on the 10th, followed by Lynn's attempt to deflect and dismiss any poster whom might disagree with her rabid protection of Stanton.
I try to dismiss any poster, such as yourself, who uses personal attacks to get across a point. I am defending my position. You can call it "rabid" if you so choose. All I am saying is, they said they would give her a chance; they did not. They fired her because they could. End of story.
If you can't see that what they did was extreme behavior based on zero meaningful reasons, then more the pity.
Thanks Lynn. As far as the poll question is concerned, I was only interested in how much support it was. It is given that the majority would have supported the firing due to the majority of readers of blogs tend to be those few who HAVE had the opportunity to interact with SS and/or have witnessed exchanges between her and Maxwell. Your own friends apparently prove that.
I have written before on the unfair assessment that the room was stacked with Maxwell supporters as I know I was there and no one asked me to attend. It would have been a good reason if someone had. I think it was apparent that Scott didn't want a circus atmosphere. The letting go of a city manager MUST be done in public. Those who were there were those who are most always there. I spoke reluctantly in favor of the motion.
If you want to see a circus, wait for the next meeting. I think I saw notice of a demonstration by people who support your opinion of the firing.
Will you be out there wearing a paper mache' head? Waving a sign? Is anyone throwing a going away party for Susan? Her supporters?
I do not take any pleasure in Stanton's firing except that maybe now we can start getting some accountability in our finances, our utility, our legal exposure, etc. which you have called for over the last year also.
Together with a newly appointed Internal Auditor, the lack of which is part of the problem we find ourselves in now, who's job description and ability to actually get the information needed, so the commission can make informed decisions, and a new city manager with the support of the new majority of the commission, maybe some of those word and phrases in the Lake Worth Voice positive list will come to fruition.
What I found with polls is, very few people want to take them. Why? I have no clue. I think it might be that they think I can find out who they are. I have over 1,000 hits a day and during the election it was nearly 3,000 on good days. People who participate in polls are usually under 50. The closest poll I had on here was the one between Golden and Amoroso. It was within 3 percentage points and more than 150 participated. I don't recall the number.
As far as a demonstration in support of Stanton, I am in support of commissioners giving a qualified person a chance to do the job as they had promised to do. If there is a demonstration, and I haven't heard anything about that, I would be in support of it. It is keeping it a positive message rather than demonstrating against Maxwell for what he did. So, that is where my "support" is.
So, no, no paper mache. Thanks for the sarcasm. Much appreciated. You must be having a bad day.
I want to know why there are some people who are so mean about Susan. What makes these people tick? Did she tell off everyone in the city or was it just the rude people? What's funny here is I have never seen her in person. No one can be that bad. What are the problems anyway.
I don't know...been trying to get an answer to that very question. I would suggest that you call Scott Maxwell, Pam Triolo or Andy Amoroso. Of course, you might get different reasons especially as they came to their decision in the Sunshine,(is that sarcasm?) who knows? None were shared with the public.
