Haitians convicted of serious crimes will be deported
Many Haitians say that the United States is aggravating the crime problem by
quadrupling the number of criminal deportees to their native country. Isn't that the way? Blame someone else for your problems, for your murders, for your heinous crimes? We don't want you here.

"Following the tragic January 2010 earthquake in Haiti, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) temporarily ceased removing Haitian nationals to Haiti. On April 1, 2011, ICE announced the resumption of removals on a limited basis of Haitians with final orders of removal and convicted of a serious crime, or who posed a national security threat. Since that time, the situation in Haiti has improved sufficiently to permit the U.S. government to remove Haitian nationals on a more regular basis, consistent with the practice for nationals from other nations.
Yesterday I directed that, effective immediately, enforcement decisions with respect to Haitian nationals should be, consistent standard practice, guided by my memorandum dated November 20, 2014, “Policies for the Apprehension, Detention and Removal of Undocumented Immigrants.” These policies prioritize the removal of convicted felons, individuals convicted of significant or multiple misdemeanors, and individuals apprehended at or between ports of entry while attempting to unlawfully enter the United States."
Now we'll probably hear from some left-wing human rights network.

Wawa gets approval on Hypoluxo and High Ridge Roads
The applicant, Atlantic Land Management, Inc. asked for approval to allow a Type I Restaurant and a Convenience Store with Gas Sales. This applicant gave campaign contributions to every commissioner running for office even the failed campaign of Shelley Vana.
Members of the public spoke in opposition citing concerns regarding increased traffic, compatibility with adjacent homes and the number of gas stations already built along Hypoluxo Road. Those residents in the chamber spoke overwhelming against this project.
That didn't matter to the commission. They voted 5/1 to approve with Mary Lou Berger dissenting. Paulette Burdick had left the room by the time the vote was taken. This vote is no surprise and the commission has fallen in step approving of every developer request that has appeared before them over the last 8 years.
Scott Maxwell invites Debbie Wasserman-Schultz to tour Lake Worth
Scott Maxwell gave a report on his Washington D.C. trip of last week where his main focus was the Sober Home problem. He said that he met with a few congress folks who he had not met previously. One was Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.
Apparently she was not that familiar with our out of control Sober Home situation in Lake worth with the 41 deaths and 150 overdoses over the past six months.
Scott said that "her eyes almost bugged out of her head." He has invited her to come and take a tour of the city.
It's not the Lawsuit holding up the Gulfstream Hotel
I doubt if there is one person in this city that would not like to see the Gulfstream Hotel renovated, rebuilt and opened. It has been way too long that this historic structure has been allowed to go to blight and decay by the past two owners. The hotel must be a special exception as it is not even being coded.
Through the years, we had these owners appeal to the city to get every waiver imaginable that they said they just had to have in order to make their business plan work. They brought in their design architects and their lawyers. It has all been a heavy duty body blow. Hudson Holdings even has a former commissioner working on its behalf as well as a local blogger who was the former chair of the Historic Resource Preservation Board. The company gave to majority commissioner campaigns.
The attitude was hell with the city and its Charter. The hell with the zoning--that can be changed with a 3 to 2 vote. And hell to the people. The city's Historic Board and the city commission listened to them, desperate for a promise that may never be fulfilled until such time the owners, Hudson Holdings, can suck the blood to the very last drop.
Then the city, along with three commissioners, dishonored the will of the people on the Heights Charter Amendment. They ignored the vote all for the developer and his promise to open this hotel and his need to do what he wanted even though he could have built a four story on the vacant land.
Then all of this catering to an investor/flipper/developer paid off in a lawsuit filed by three residents looking out for rights--your rights--my rights.
Hudson Holdings, if it was serious, could have demolished those out buildings eons ago. They could have started to renovate the hotel as promised when they first arrived on the scene. But then they saw $$$ in their eyes and knew how to jerk around elected officials. They haven't renovated the hotel--none of this has happened. Why? Well it's not the lawsuit.
On Tuesday night, our city attorney, Glen Torcivia, brought up the lawsuit stating that the Plaintiffs filed their appeal which means it goes to the 4th District Court of Appeals. That's a beginning of a process. Generally, a brief would be filed about two months. There will be a response filed by the city. Usually, 30 days after that, another response will be filed. So, you're looking at 4 to 6 months before you get a ruling, said Glen.
At 1:31:26 into the meeting Commissioners Amoroso asks,
"Is it true that in our Ordinance or somewhere that they [Hudson Holdings] can not move forward [with renovations, development etc.] as long as there is a lawsuit pending?"
Glen Torcivia: "No, No. They're free to move forward but from their perspective, there's a risk...There are plenty of cases that do move forward."

City Manager Bornstein slams Post Reporter for not writing article in a manner he would approve

Just for the record, the way the article is written, it kind of skips over a bunch of facts regarding an action that this employee was involved in previously. It covers publicly that there was an activity involving a business license approval where there was previous code actions that were still opened on the property and the person got in trouble for that but what wasn't covered, also a relationship with the person who received the license and the code officer which was probably the biggest reason the person got in trouble. And that person went out of his district to do that. So, they're not getting the entire story.
The most recent activity was involving a 911 call. The Code Manager did not tell this person to call him first before he calls 911. It's inappropriate. No one would ever do that and there is a witness, I believe, that was with the Code Manager when he met with this employee.
This employee runs to the press. The press is eager to print bad news about the city. I believe there's over 80 comments on this. I have not opened it because I do not want to read all the, I'm sure, snarky comments about the city but I just find it egregious that that would be thrown out there and taken for news.
We are held to higher standards and they should hold themselves to higher standards."

Last night's Commission Meeting
I only stayed at the city commission meeting for an hour and 20 minutes--there was a gorgeous sunset to capture.
Cpt. Baer gave a long presentation on crime. With 8,000 activities a year, he says that crime is down in Lake Worth. Vandalism is up by 41.7%, vehicle thefts up by 20% and heroin overdoes are out of control. And whatever you do, never pick up a used needle without proper protection. Cpt. Baer presentation
While I was there, everything passed on a 5/0 vote under Public Hearings and no one from the public spoke. Millage was set. The budget was set (we're spending more money than we're making), and two ordinances were passed involving land development regulations and assigning fund balances from year 2016.
One item under New Business was pulled and will be on the October 4 agenda: Ordinance 2016-28 which was to be the first reading adopting Palm Beach County's solicitation and distribution on public roads. City attorney, Glen Torcivia said something was wrong with it.
The ordinance prohibits a person from going upon a public road for the purpose of displaying information of any kind, distributing materials or goods or soliciting business or charitable contributions of any kind. PBSO may issue a notice to appear to persons who violate this ordinance. The notice to appear shall require the person to appear in court to respond to the municipal ordinance violation charge.
Sec. 19-87. - Peddlers, solicitors or canvassers prohibited in downtown area and major thoroughfares; exceptions.
(a) No peddler shall conduct or engage in any business activities in the downtown area or along the major thoroughfares.
(b) No solicitors or canvassers shall conduct or engage in any soliciting or canvassing activities in the downtown area or along the major thoroughfares.
(c) This section shall not apply to:
(1) Authorized peddlers at the city green market or arts market;
(2) Authorized peddlers acting as concessionaries at a special event with the express written approval of the city or special event organizers/sponsors;
(3) Authorized peddlers conducting business pursuant to a franchise, permit or other written agreement with the city; or
(4) Solicitors or canvassers who solicit or canvass exclusively for a non-profit or charitable cause in the downtown area or along major thoroughfares or are otherwise authorized by law in such
areas

The polling has drawn ever closer. More and more people wonder if those of us who are NeverTrump should finally yield knowing that we can beat Hillary Clinton. I am in an odd position. I am mindful that should Trump win, the Republican establishment will blame people like me for giving rise to Trump. Likewise, I know if Trump loses, the Republican establishment will blame people like me for giving rise to Trump and Trump supporters will blame people like me for his loss. I suppose I should say not that I'm in an odd position, but that I am in a no-win position.With Donald Trump's rise in the polls and the increasingly competitive nature of the race, it is time to reconsider my opposition to Trump. No exemptions on H-2B visas for foreign workers
Numbers USA says, Tell Congress not to expand low-skilled guest worker program
Each year, the federal government issues 66,000 H-2B visas to low-skilled foreign workers to fill jobs that are seasonal or temporary in nature. But American workers with a high school degree or less depend on these jobs and are instead forced to compete with foreign workers. Nearly half of working-aged American workers with less than a high school degree are out of work.
Last year, Congress exempted returning foreign workers from the H-2B cap, in effect, quadrupling the number of H-2B visas issued each year. This exemption expires on Sept. 30 unless Congress extends it into FY2017.
Please send a message to your three Members of Congress and urge them to oppose an extension of the H-2B provision for FY2017.

CNN covering up for Hillary?
But we all know that the liberal media continually does this sort of thing. It's no wonder that Donald Trump is especially leery about the second debate that will be moderated by reporters, Martha Raddatz, Chief Global Affairs Correspondent and Co-Anchor of "This Week," ABC and Anderson Cooper, Anchor, CNN.
The simple fact that Anderson Cooper is a journalist paid by CNN that pushes the Democratic agenda, should throw up some red flags here. One of the guests at Martha Raddatz's wedding was Barack Obama who is shilling for Hillary.
City Commission Meeting tonight
Tonight, the city will hire a new prosecutorial attorney who will prosecute those who continue to break our Ordinances. The city will be seeking fines and possible jail time. This item is on the Consent Agenda. Anything that cost money generally is.
This is just another outside attorney to add to our increasing legal budget.

Read the latest on what happened to Code Officer, Nick Petrino, when he encountered a missing girl on our city street. Jessica Wilkerson, a known heroin addict, was found in the first block of South D Street with a presumed heroin overdose. She was taken to John F. Kennedy Medical Center.

You can't and shouldn't have to do everything by the city's book especially when it comes to someone's life on the line. And this is why Nick called 911 when he encountered an emergency. This is why the Code Department and the City in general has a less than exemplary or honest reputation in Lake Worth.
